Roycelandia needs a Multipurpose Tank

The Imperial Defence Bureau has noticed that Roycelandia's Combat Tanks fall into Two Categories:

The Emperor Class Tank

Armed with a 120mm main gun, enough armour to stop a hit from same, and no less than 6 MGs, a battery of Rocket Launchers, and even a flamethrower, it's impressive, but a bit big and unweildy for smaller operations.

The Wildebeest Scout Tank

Carrying a 30mm main gun, 2 MGs, a small amount of armour, the Wildebeest is fast but not much use against anything larger than an Armoured Car.

Accordingly, the Imperial Defence Bureau has decided to commission a new, Mulitpurpose Tank for our Colonial Defence Forces in Roycelandian East Africa.

We could make it ourselves, but our Military Budget has a huge surplus this year and we figured that we could help out someone's Industry and improve our Balance of Trade whilst we're at it...

There are, however, some catches...

1. The design must have a WWII feel and look to it, but utilise the latest modern technology and parts.

2. The Main Gun must not be less than 50mm calibre

3. There must be at least three MGs, all of .303 British Calibre. One is to be coaxial, the other mounted with the driver, and the third on top of the Turret for the Commander.

4. It must hold a crew of at least 4

5. It must have a maximum top speed of no less than 80km/h

6. It must be tracked, rather than wheeled

7. The armour must be capable of withstanding a direct hit from an 88mm Anti-Tank Gun

8. It must be capable of running on both Diesel and Fuel Cells, to extend operation range and efficiency.

9. It must be capable of mounting wide and varied range of accessories and/or extra equipment

10. The Minimum Operation Range must be at least 700kms

11. It must have an impressive name, preferably African, e.g. Rhino, Leopard, Tiger, etc.

The Imperial Defence Bureau will consider all tenders and then make a decision once a satisfactory tender has been received... just post them here and the Ordnance Selections Committee will decide if further testing might be necessary...

Surely someone can meet these modest requirements for us? It's not like we want a Space Fleet or anything...

Um, those statistics are not modest, they are quite tough to do. I am assuming you want a RL tank, that LOOKS like a WWII tank but isn't.

1. Most modern tanks do not look like WWII tanks because the design has improved.

2. This gun would not be hard to get.

3. Most WWII tanks have two machine guns, and the british calibre is not widely used.

4. --np--

5. That is very fast for a tank

6. Tracked things go slower on roads than wheeled things

7. You would have to test the armour, at different ranges as well

8. Um, this would require either two engines, or a very advanced one

9. What do you mean by accessories?

10. That is a long way for a tank to travel

11. You can nickname a tank whatever you like

In light of these we can propose a deal that would meet most of the requirements. We would be able to produce the following tanks for you:

Merkava (Mk2,3, or 4)
Sabre (upgraded Patton)

Look her for information on them:

http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/israel/weapons.htm

We will supply these tanks for you, if you want them...

I was after a "made-up" tank, not a real-life one. If Roycelandia wanted a RL tank, we'd just get Imperial Automotive to make us one.

However, if you could modify the Merkava or Sabre tanks (Maybe equal quantities of each?) to meet our requirments, we would be most interested in doing business...

A combined joint-venture between Nikvonia and Furmanistan to build tanks to similar specs is already underway. Telegram me for information/price.

Crookfur Arms would liek to make the following proposal

Project Impi (IIRC the name for zulu foot soldiers)

Main Gun: G557 103mm high tempreature ETC gun system (i recon that if you want a feul cell engine then you should be ready for ETC guns, if not then our standard 105mm gun can be used).

After experimenting with even bigger and bigger ETC gun system Crookfur Arms instead turned towards getting the maximum power out of the technology. The G5XX series guns use a far far higher flme tempreature compared to common ETC guns offierng a substancil increase in velocity(normal ETC guns generally give a 20% velocity increase oevr conventional guns, super high tempt guns give 50% or greater) secondaly they feature a selectable power output so that the maximum power cna be provided for kinetic energy penetrators and a reduced setting used for payload sheels to circumvent those armour specfically design to defeat kinetic energy weapons.

Secondary guns: the E4H1 GPMG is liekly to be used (basically the PKM chambered for .303 as its the only modern machine gun i can think of off my head that uses heavy rimmed ammo an alternative would be either an MG42 solution or possibley Crookfur Vicker Mk5s (basiclaly refined versions of the Vickers Mk2)). Of course we would liek to push for a CFAR S11/12 FCW (basically crookfur versions of the Objective crew served weapon) to be used

Armour: likely based on the scheme devised for the T-7 gilgamesh but lighter, should offer protection greater than found on the cheiftan.

Crew: as required, 4th crew member will like be a radio/defensive systems operator as ETC guns really need autoloaders

Engine: although a new direction for Crookfur power works this should be acheivable, we had soem succes with the hybrid power system of the gilgamesh and although the proposed layout will not offer quite the same perfromance as we get from our turbines the required speed/range is acheivablea full authority digital control box is of course standard on our models.

Acessories/systems: you name it we can likely mount it, with the 4th crew memeber the tank will be fairly large with plenty room for mountings.
Extrnal systems can include: SAMs/ATGMs/Recon rockets, Electrical reactive armour, millimetric wave radar, large capacity expendable protection stores (dense particulate smoke, flares, chaff, etc) and active alser counter measures systems (seeks out laser illumination/giudance optics of launch platfroms or illuminators and melts them, can also dazzle seekers heads on missiles).
Internal systems includeing full digital navigation (open standard GPS that can be used with your network of choice and a very accurate INS), full digital sercure radios and data links (think JTIDS but... well, better), thermal and night vision systems, full eletronic warfare siute even full digital displays for the crew can be used if desired.
All of the above is of course optional and subject to what exactly you want in your tank. Of course traditional acessories like dozer blades, mine plows, fails etc etc are doable.

Now when you say WW2 era pic, would the centurion do? (as it is technically a ww2 tank).

Look at Clan Smoke Jaguar's storefront, he sells upgraded Merkava tanks called Iron Cheetah's. He also sells upgraded Sabre's.

Search for his name...

Crookfur: Your tank will be acceptable, but how much is the contract price for completed, delivered units? Centurion-type bodies would be ideal...
Crookfur

The price would be somewhere in the $5-7million rnage depending on the exact systems load out selected although with all the mentioned systems the price may go as high as $7.5million

Thermal and night vision system for all crew, digital radios, GPS, laser rangefinder and FLIR air search system
Suite 2:
Multimode vision system and digital displays for all crew (thermal NV, IR), laser rangefinder and designator, MMW surveillance radar, digital radios and full data link, GPS, FLIR air search system.

Layout:
Driver and systems/radio operator occupy a protected pod in the forward hull while the gunner and commander occupy one in the turret.
The forward MG can be remotely operated by either the driver of systems operator while the external gun can be remotely aimed from inside by the commander.
The main gun features a 12RPM autoloader.

An additional missile pod can be mounted on the LHS of the turret. With the suite 1 systems package it can be configured for either 4 stinger SAMs or 4 TOW ATGMS and with the suite 2 Star streak SAMS, Trigat LR/hellfire 2 ATGMS or MU112* recon rockets can be used

*1: MMW=Millimetric wave radar

*2: Mu112 recon missile basically a TRIGAT LR missile with the warhead removed and the space used for more fuel for a new slower burning rocket motor and a high definition EO sensor and image relay to provide the launching vehicle with an improved view over the battle field.

Costs per unit:
Suite 1: $4.5million ($5million with missile pod)
Suite 2: $6.5million ($7.2million with missile pod)

Both prices include production plans and licenses for all required ammo and most general replacement parts

A full production license comes in at $7billion (full plans for both system packages) an export license would be subject to negotiation.
