PYONGYANG, NORTH KOREA - While there has been no notice in speeches by North Korean officials nor has there been any acknowledgement in the state media, it is thought that over 210,000 civilians have died in a drought that hit North Korea during Spring of 2003 and continued to December of that year.

The state press agency, the Korean Central News Agency, has never published news of droughts or about any of the other natural disasters that have hit the country in recent times. Making this no different than any other occasion.

Analysts believe that the North Korean government is not as strong as it appears, but has warned that any attempt to overthrow the Communist government would be very difficult, nearly impossible. Strong intelligence agencies, a powerful military that is relatively fed well, and a continuing growing personality cult, combined with the fewer and fewer numbers of defectors, could mean that the government has strengthened its position within Korean society, but that cannot be confirmed.

DaKhiem, Dra-pol

Comrade Secretary Hotan broke Dra-pol's usual diplomatic silence this evening by sending to Pyongyang a communiqué expressing Drapoel support for the government there.

While, owing to the beginings of a recession, Dra-pol is unable to provide economic or food aid to North Korea, the Secretary is keen to promote increased trade between the two republics.

Privately many in the Choson People's Republic of Dra-pol are surprised by speculation suggesting that their Korean brethren are in fact Arabs, but this is yet to discourage DaKhiem.

"For the Idea! For the Revolution! For the Choson!" Spake the Secretary in an address from the Central Directorature as he attempted to focus confused comrades on economy rather than ethnicity.

(ooc:For the record, the CPRD exists in place of North Korea in the NS Asia region, and is essentially the DPRK on PCP, but I'm just suspending disbelief and supposing the near idential geography of the two nations to be a massive coincidence.)

ooc: oh yay...two communist nations on my northern border now. this is going to really jack up my defense costs -__-;;; Although I'm not in favor of this...simply because having a "South Korea" pop up next week would probably set off a big argument over who gets the territory...but whatever

Seoul, South Dalania

With the public report from the North Korean government underway, the Korean Republic of South Dalania has been quick to respond. Although the South Dalanian government already provides DaKheim (Dra-pol) with a substantial amount of humanitarian aid, Acting PM Han Su Kim has voted for emergency aid to be sent to North Korea.

However, Overseer General Lee Kang Woo in a broadcast from East Islandia, has stated that the military will be upping defense spending and posting extra troops along the DMZ. East Islandian forces will also be invited to host several troop garrisons there, marking the first major foreign deployments on South Dalanian soil since the Korean War of 1950-1953.

"We're taking no chances," said Lee.

(ooc:Ah, heh, this is going to get confusing. I wasn't sure if SD would show up. At the moment I'm supposing Dra-pol and NK to be remarkably similar but on different continents.. different Asias, anyway.. but I'll go along with ..whatever. Will see what the fellow has to say
