UZYL, FERRETATIA (UFP) - The peaceful area of Uzyn in the Ferrussian Protectorate of Ferretatia was rudely awakened last night with a massive, distant fireball. Some even report ground shaking, while others still mentioned an "odd, muffled rumble."

Less than 15 minutes later, the Ferretatian government announced that it had successfully detonated Ferretatia's first self-manufactured "fissionate explosive" - a nuclear bomb.

"We do not expect any major reprecussions from the Ferrussian government," noted a government official, "especially when you consider they have executed their own nuclear program."

It is unknown at the moment, however, how this will affect relations with neighbors and prospective allies.

"We have just as much a right to protect ourselves with [the deterance of] nuclear weapons as anybody else has," said the same official. "Others can judge us as they will, but this should not be seen in any way as a threat."

Top leaders on the project noted that the detonation should have "minimal impact" on the surrounding area. The site chosen for the test was specifically picked for its relative inhabitability and remoteness. It was not expected that anybody from Uzyl would notice, however.

"The test proved that our device was far more efficient than we had ever dreamed," said a scientist involved in the project. "There is virtually no chance of fallout or other harmful nuclear effects on the surrounding area, but the test has proved that this technology is more promising than even we expected.

The government plans to channel some of the program into more efficient nuclear reactor technology for power plants. The efficiency of the detonation was a promising sign of the applications in fields besides simply nuclear weapons.

Future government plans include the construction of several other nuclear weapons, as well as further developments into increasingly efficient reactor technology. The Ferrussian government has not had a chance to comment on the issue.

OOC: Feel free to comment ICly on the issue. This is a "coming onto the international stage" post for Ferretatia, which is a semi-puppet (it's independent, but semi-subservient to Ferrussia, and controlled by the same person) of Ferrussia. I'm still in the process of working out exactly how they're related to eachother, but yeah.
