"These things, they are abominations. They are nothing more than pieces of metal. As machines, they can never be the equal of humans. They should be destroyed!" the Metropolitan of the Xeronian Church finished his speech, his crowd bursting into spontaneous applause and cheering.
Lately, he had been venting the anger, fury, and fanaticism of the Xeronian people onto everything imaginable: Communism, fat capitalists, infidels, and now Androids. He excercised incredible power over the people, so much so that he was practically the head of the nation, since the government couldn't disagree with him for fear of being overthrown.

And the government did just that. The Xeronian government sent an ultimatum to the Artificial Empire of the Android. It read "Begin the destruction of your android population, or face the wrath and fury of the Xeronian people."
In the meantime, until the ultimatum was responded to, the government began conscripting or recruiting every male (and more than a few females) 16 or over who was fit to carry a gun, since the population of the other nation outnumbered theirs tenfold, and the Xeronian Army could provide nothing for it's soldiers save food, rifles, and ammunition for them.

Android Number 9 was holding a meeting with his top advisors on the eve of the day he was created many years ago, when the news was broken to him.

“What the hell? I didn’t even know that the nation ever existed…”

“Well it does, sir, and the situation must be delt with immediately.”

“It’s obvious what we should do…” 9 proclaimed.

“What is that, sir?

“We must take action, how dare they accuse us of being mere machines! This is an outrage that will not be tolerated. Listen gentlemen, are strike will be fast and merciless, first take the offensive, then enforce the borders and close all passage through them. Bombard this nation with all we have until they give up.”

“I will send the instructions to our men now.”

Soon after at a nearby air force base:

“This is a code red, alpha status. All air combat teams take flight immediately.”

Soon after, 4 squads of 7 F/A-18 Hornet aircrafts took to the air on rout to the nation Xeronia. At the same time 2 of The Android’s Nimitz class aircraft carriers changed direction and headed to open sea, along with a battalion of other ships. 11 Northrop Grumman B-2A Strategic Stealth Bombers took of from Frost Moon Air force Base; along with 7 Boeing B-1 B Lancers all loaded to maximum capacity, their location unknown.

Back at the governmental headquarters:

Android Number 9 stood at a podium in front of a board of generals and spoke…
“Their waiting for a reply… I hope they can assume our answer to their question.”

"This is Andrei Malenkov of Grugoslavian State News. Here in the capital of the Artificial Empire of the Android, the government is completely outraged at the Holy Empire of Xeronia. As you may well know, the Metropolitan of the Xeronian Church has condemned Androids and called on his followers, which are practically the whole nation, to destroy them. In response, the Artificial Empire of the Android has said they will, and I quote from an official I had talked to before I went on air, "We are going to bomb these religious fanatics into the ground for their insult to our nation." "
"The Politburo, for those of you who didn't see the General Secretary's earlier statement, has said that he condemns the Xeronians for their arrogance and bigotry, but if any soldiers from the Artificial Empire of the Android are sent to Xeronia, the Grugoslavian Armed Forces will intervene to protect our great nation from any potential threats."

In the Grugoslavian capital of Stakhanovgrad, the Defense Minister was giving out orders for the mobilization of class C reserve divisions, alerting the Air Defense Forces to be ready to scramble their fighters and shoot down any unidentified aircraft, for all personnel on leave to be recalled to their units, and, most ominously of all, for the Strategic Rocket Forces to be on high alert (don't worry, I won't actually use them-it's just a threat).

At the Politburo, everybody was fretting about the situation.
"How could this be? Why the hell is this happening?" the State Security Minister asked.
"Because some crack-pot cleric cannot keep his mouth shut and his next-door neighbor has a thin skin." the Foreign Minister replied curtly.
"I told you, we should have sent the Spetznaz in to assassinate him while we had the chance, when the Red Army still occupied the country." the Defense Minister told them all.
"Maybe this will all blow over..." the Information Minister, who most of the Politburo considered rather naive (for obvious reasons) suggested meekly.
"Do not make me laugh. Any more of that stupidity and I'll have you sent to the gulags" the State Security Minister threatened.
"I'll have YOU sent to the gulags if you threaten a fellow Politburo member like that again, comrade. Now, we tell The Android government that they can punish the Xeronians as they see fit for this grave insult, in fact, we may even help, but if they send one footsoldier into Xeronia we will have to respond by force of arms. We can't have a country like that on OUR border, if they start wars for such...trivial reasons." the General Secretary informed them. He did realize the irony of what he'd said, since his country had already started a few wars for "trivial reasons".

"Sir, a minor war is brewing," a voice echoed through the room.
"And why would this concern me?" Sir Addamous replied.
"Well, sir, it concerns an old ally, on the wrong side of a war."
"Who?"
"The Artificial Empire of The Android is attacking a nation who sent them an ultimatium. They said that The Android should disarm their androids. Number 9 responded in a violent attack and is launching a number of aircraft to attack this smaller nation. At the rate of the attack, we will not be able to get there in time, but we may be able to help in the aftermath of the situation."
"Who says that I am taking sides with this smaller nation... what is the name of it anyway?"
"Xeronia, sir."
Well, we had better go help them... I never liked androids anyway."

"How did they get this frequency?"
"How am I supposed to know?"
"Well, you are in charge, you know, Sir." Idris told his "superior"
"Oh, just tell them they can come in."
"You do it Sir."
Pasha shook his head. Ever since the Revolution he wasn't so much giving orders as persuading people about what they should do. And naturally nobody wanted to do anything but those volunteers heading towards that Android country...
He went onto the radio.
"Permission to enter Xeronian air space granted."
Simple. Now he just hoped that he didn't lose his head for allowing infidels into the country. But the fighters were allowed into the country to do whatever it was they were going to do, not that they had the power to stop them.

“Our problems seem to be growing,” denounced 9 in the secrecy of his office, “This now requires the attention of our entire military!”

“But sir!”

“No, we must take hold of the situation, before we regret it.”

“What do you plan to do?”

“We have 11 B-2’s and B-1’s on rout to Maleme, Salka, and most important, Xeropolis. Our aircraft carriers have reached waters outside of Xeronia, so we don’t have to worry about backup. Any time now we should hear the news about our targets…until then, this is a waiting game.

“What about Addamous?”

“Later…now our main objective is to stop any possible threat coming from Xeronia..."

They never knew what hit them. The government officials, who were supposedly the masters of the country, were meeting.
"We cannot let this cleric lead us around as if we are on a leash!" one of them said.
"Yes, but if we don't go along with this war, then we'll be overthrown."
And that was the last words of any of them, when not one, but several bombs hit the building they were in. There were no survivors, and Metropolitan Slavik assumed power over the entire nation. Around the rest of the bombed cities, AA guns fired into the sky, in vain. Many of them were erased from existence, and many civilians were hit as well.

Over Sukharovburg, something different happened. It was a Grugoslavian city (OOC: I'm giving you the chance to either correct your mistake or go to war with Grugoslavia sooner rather than later), and the approaching bombers were picked up on radar long before they were near the city. An entire regiment, 36 planes, were sent up to meet them, MiG-31 interceptors.
A message from the ground was sent to the approaching bombers.
"Turn back now, Android bombers, you are about to enter Grugoslavian airspace, or know that you will be held responsible for the outbreak of hostilities between our to nations. Our defense are prepared to meet you."

In Xeronia, the next morning the Metropolitan was condemning the Androids.
"For every one of our brethren killed, we shall make them pay tenfold! We will make those mechanical murderers regret their error. They have sullied the holy soil of Xeronia!"
Near the border with the Android nation, thousands of volunteeer soldiers were getting ready to invade, or defend their homeland. They were poorly armed, with nothing more than automatic rifles and RPGs, as well as the occaisional mortar. Their clothes were what they had brought from home. But they were ready for anything that should come, and were quite glad to be where they were, despite the fact that most likely they would be slaughtered by the hundreds.

Android Number 9 was kicking himself for what had happed. “How the hell did some of our boys end up over Sukharovburg?!?”

“I don’t know sir,” an assistant hesitantly said.

“Well I want to speak with someone from the Grugoslavian government. You will fax them a copy of what I’m about to say. Ready?”

“Yes, sir.”

Dear governmental officials of Grugoslavia, I was alerted minutes ago of the “mishap” between our two great nations. Please do not worry, as one of my pilots made an almost fatal error. I will assume all responsibility for what has occurred. The aircraft is already headed back this way, so I hope there are no hard feelings between us. Thank you.
~Android Number 9

“Sent, sir. But there is much more we must worry about. The bombing of Xeronia proved to be un-helpful as their troops are moving ever closer to our borders.”

“We must try to deter them. I have a plan but I was hoping it didn’t have to come to this. I have taken it into consideration and… I believe we must use nuclear force.”

“What?!?”

“As your leader, you must not question my decisions. It is the last step we must take to shake their mind-set before they reach those borders. We damaged Xeropolis, right? Well now we will completely obliterate it. I want you to call a nuclear strike on Xeropolis, and make sure that that nuke reaches it’s destination…at any cost.

Meanwhile At The Empire air force base:

Fischer sat in front of his locker just after being told what he must do. He struggled to comprehend the lives that will be lost all because of war, the thought sickened him. As a master pilot, he dropped many bombs over his career, but never anything nuclear. The thought of it sent a chill up his spine. As he walked to his B-2, he said nothing, not even to his best friend, Barry, who wished him good luck on his mission, “If only he knew what I have to do,” he thought to himself. As he climbed into the cockpit, his copilot Thomas Hicks, looked almost happy. “What the hell brightened you day?” he asked. “We get to do it,” stated Thomas, “we get to make history.” “We get to murder.” Fischer fired back. “Hey,” Thomas responded, “if not us, then they’d just get someone else to do it, don’t get you panties in a bunch, this was bound to happen sooner or later.” “I guess your right,” as Fischer subdued the thought crossed his mind. He might as well do it, Hicks had a point, as crappy as it was. “Oh well, here it goes!”

It was dead silent. Abraham stalked through the undergrowth, with some 30 others intent on the same thing. He chambered a round into his rifle, a Fabrique Nationale Fusil d'Automatique Leger (sp?), more popularly known as the FN-FAL, the 'right arm of the free world'. His comrades were variously equipped, a motley collection of M-14s, FALs, RPG-7s, an ancient Lee-Enfield, but predominantly AK-74s, almost all taken from the Red Army when they had invaded a year ago, having just left a few months ago. The situation was the same for the rest of the Xeronian Army, unfortunately. But they had one weapon, they beleived, would lead them to victory and protect them from harm: their faith.
"I can see the post. Looks like most of them are asleep."
"It seems God has provided us with the element of surprise."
"Or just their fatigue."
"Shh...are you all ready?" Abraham asked them all.
They all nodded. They were ready.
They ran as quietly as they could the last stretch, then split up, one to cut them off, the other to get the enemies trying to retreat. The 'hammer and anvil' technique.
Abraham fired the first shot, loosing a 7.62mm NATO round in the direction of the sentry. Then all hell broke loose as the rest of the group with him began yelling and firing.

The same story was repeated along the entire border that night. Groups of Xeronian fighters launching sudden attacks on Android border outposts and towns. The fighters, all in all, numbered nearly 100,000 men and women.
The ground war had begun.

That same night, a bright light arose in Xeropolis, as if day had come. But 1 million of the 1.5 million inhabitants would never see daylight again, and most of the survivors were to die in a few weeks. A nuclear weapon had been dropped by the Android bomber. Fortunately for the Xeronians, or possibly unfortunately depending on your point of view, the Metropolitan was in Palase. He didn't need to incite the people into further outrage against these machines, these infidels. The news spread fast, and more and more volunteers were gathering, 3 million more added to the existing 5 million of the Xeronian Army. They would need every man too.

He had just gotten the apology from Android Number 9 when a colonel of the Strategic Rocket Forces nearly broke down the door.
"Xeropolis has been nuked!"
"What?" the General Secretary asked, utterly bewildered.
"The Androids, they've detonated a nuclear weapon in Xeropolis."
"Hmph...Well I'll make sure to mention it when I reply to their apology."
In a few minutes, the reply was written. It read:
"The Soviet Republic of Grugoslavia accepts your apology. However, it is difficult for us to sit on the sidelines of this war when you provoke us with warring with our neighbor, nearly bombing us, which I understand to be an honest mistake but a potential provocation nonetheless, and now using nuclear weapons in that war, potentially spreading fallout all over their country and possibly into ours. We would also like to re-iterate our warning: Any ground troops in Xeronia means our will be in Xeronia as well. And they won't be fighting Xeronians."

At Stakhanovgrad Air Base, named after the nearby city, the capital of Grugoslavia, Stakhanovgrad, several battalions of Spetsnaz were embarking onto their AN-24 Coke transports, one 50-man company per plane. They took off while it was still night, and the planes were back by morning, but empty. (OOC: This is not an attack-you'll find out the real purpose later)

"What the hell? Captain, are you reading this?"
"Yeah, a nuke just detonated within the past couple hours."
"Can we get through the radiation OK?"
The captain thought for a few seconds. The radiation shouldn't hurt them immediatly. In a few years they might suffer some side effects.
"Yeah, no problem."
