Disassociated Press-

Earlier today, at a college protest for free speech within the Shinkarian Empire violence broke out as students, in response to the lack of political freedom within the Empire.

"There is really a war going on here. This war is being fought between the government, and the citizens of Shinkar Prime. We will not tolerate this at all. If we must destroy the entire campus of Shettonal University, we will." - student protester, quoted on the condition of anonymity.

In response to this protest at Shettonal University, the 22 year old Emperor Trin Echiro has issued a 24 hour deadline for the protestors to stand down and submit themselves to authorities or face "Dire consequences."

"It is true that I am not my parents. It is also true that I have only been on the throne for three years, but I am here to tell you that I am a fair man. And I am a good man. But that does NOT mean that I am a fan of participative democracy. I was raised to rule over this Empire. My children, and their children's children, will continue to rule over this Empire as well. I will not tolerate what I see in my eyes as an attempt to usurp the dreams of my family. My Family... the living embodyment of this Empire, and all of it's citizens. We are indeed a proud people, however pride must not be allowed to become insolence. I ask the students protesting at Shettonal University to please restore an air of calm within the area, and submit themselves to authorities, or face dire consequences. I will not let the venom of dissent poision the majority of my people. I MUST not allow that. It is also your obligation to prevent that. I will prevent a citywide riot by any means at my disposal. I would also ask the international community to avoid making any unjust or rash decisions about my Empire, or our ways. I pray this incident will be solved peacefully, but I want to prepare the people of Shinkar Prime and the world for any eventuality, should this incident meet a violent end."

::Prime Minister Zev Killian reads about the recent incidents in a newspaper delivered to his penthouse in the Edenstein Hilton. He drafts a letter to the Emperor of Shinkarian::

Dear Emperor of Shinkarian,

As head of Manarth, I protest your refusal to consider the plight of the students at your university. It saddens me that you would throw their lives away.

But, seeing as how my nation is busy doing other things at the moment, I am unable to give you the lesson in Manarthian freedom you deserve. If you still desire a lesson, feel free to abdicate, and let popular vote chose the new leader(s).

Emperor Trin Echiro's deadline for the students of Shettonal University has hit. Fires have broken out all around the campus. Students were seen scrambling away from these flames, and ran directly into a barrage of rubber bullets and other non-lethal weaponry being fired from police and national guard units. As time to the deadline wound down, Emperor Trin Echiro released the following statement:

"My patience wears thin with these malcontents. This Empire has neither the time, nor the patience to waste upon parasites who would rather shirk their obligations as citizens and destroy what makes us who we are. Order is being restored, and rebellion, in it's many guises will be quashed immediately. Again, I am a fair man, and since these... malcontents want more freedom... I'll give them absolute freedom. I have decided that Shettonal University should become a Protectorate of this Empire. However, these malcontents will fend for themselves. We will not allow any passage of any kind into our Empire, except by those foreign dignitaries specifically approved by myself. If these fools wish to intimidate the government by petty displays of force, then we will have no choice but to pen these fools inside their new Campus Protectorate. It's quite a shame too, I believe they've set buildings on fire, and with no one to stop the fires, these students are left to combat them on their own. The Empire of Shinkar Prime realizes that it is difficult for other nations to comprehend this incident, however, I would like the international community to respect the authority of my government, as I have respected the authority of the international communities'. Any harm done to these protestors is being done by the protestors themselves. I have instructed my national guard and police forces to use ONLY non-lethal means to keep these students from essentially immigrating into my Empire. I would not ask you to open your borders to a hostile nation. Why would you ask me to not protect myself from the threat the newly created "Protectorate of Shettonal University." These people will pay the price for independence.

*President Wayne Long of Rough Ryders makes a breaking news announcement during prime time TV*

After seeing the recent riots and the carnage that has stricken our fellow nation Shinakr I am liberty to offer our Militiary Riot Prevention unit to the service of Trin. These so called citizens need to learn a lesson. That lesson is you do not go against your ruler. I would also like to use this incident as a message to my own populas. People are already being shipped out of the country for crime, to large of a family, do not think I will overlook something such as a riot. Earlier this morning there was a protest that was broken up almost as fast as it started. These incidents should not and can not be allowed to take place. The government knows what is best for the citizens.

Great neighbor Shinkar if you would like my assistance please let me know. Our MRP unit will be arrivng by air in less than 2 hours upon your approval. I am waiting for your response.

"Good Friend, I thank you for your concern. However at this moment, the situation seems contained. We are currently pacifying the rioters, and are expected to have restored 100% order by the end of the week. Our only concern is foreign pressure, and wether or not this incident was triggered from Leftist Forces attempting to topple this government."

Associated Press- February 17th, 2004. Students of The University of The Unforgiven after hearing comments made by the President, began rioting, and setting the Presidential library on fire. Student Derrick Belville states "The President thinks that with his totalitarian regime, he can prevent us from speaking out, well he has another thing coming." It is expected that within the next few hours students from Shinkar Prime who were able to escape the persecution of there own riots will be joining the students here at the university. The President has issued the following statement.

"Such petty acts for attention that are taking place at the University will not be taken lightly. Those students who continue to act out like this, are writing there own death ticket. As far as students from Shinkar Prime coming and helping these riots, if they want to meet the same fate as the students of my nation so be it. After the fires are put out, and order is restored, the ashes of those students will be dumped in the sewers to remain with the rats for eternity. I am giving these students 4 hours to stop the rioting and turn themselves in. The punishment will be restoring the Presidential Library, and being publicly whipped by the Military Riot Prevention Unit. If the student's do not comply I will give my soldiers permission to fire freely upon these vermin."

In an interesting development, it seems that Emperor Trin, will NOT be seeking extradition for his citizens found committing crime in the Nation of Rough Ryders.

"If these fools seek asylum within President Long's nation, so be it. I am completely confident in his sense of justice. These people are criminals, and shall be treated as such regardless of whose border they are in."

*Rough Ryders news stops the sports hour with a breaking news sotry*

This is Vicotoria Scott here with late breaking news. President Long recently gave a four hour deadline for the students down at The Univeristy of The Unforgiven to turn themselves in and stop rioting before the Military Riot Prevention Unit was to arrive and break things up. With approximately three and a half hours to go, students from Shinkar Prime arrived, and the MRP Unit sprang into action. We now go to on the scene reporter Ryan Jenkins.

Ryan Jenkins- Than you Victoria. It looks like the situation down here is turning deadly. The MRP unit arrived and began opening fire on the students. At first what seemed to be rubber bullets has indeed turned out to be real bullets and student lives are being taken. The vicinity has been blocked off by barricades and tanks leaving the students with no where to run. Those who are trying to turn themselves in are being shot on the spot. So far the death toll has reached 23. I have here with me General Fallon from the MRP Unit. General what happened to the deadline and why is such brutal force being taken in turn to subdue the riots.

General Fallon- President Long has grown tired of these childish acts. He gives these students rights and they turn around and they spit in his face. We are here to get rid of these miscreants and make the Univeristy a safer place to learn.

Rayn- What is to happen to the bodies?

General Fallon- There will be a bon fire and the ashes will be spread in the sewers just as The President has said would....

*Ryan interupting* Of all the things I have witnessed this has to be the most heartless and cynical thing that I have ever seen, and someone needs to do something to stop our President from making this more of a massacre than it already is. What do you intend......

*At this moment General Fallon pulls out a handgun and shoots Ryan Jenkins point blank through the temple instantly killing him. General Fallon picks up the mic*

General Fallon- This broadcast is over. President Long will be along shortly to discuss the matters that need to be talked about.

*The news station goes to static at the latest events*

After a considerable delay, a statement emerged from the Dyelli Beybian Ministry of Foreign Affairs:

Foul monarchies and Empires of this Nature have no place in modern society. If the Emperor is as 'fair' and 'just' as he claims he is, and not merely some megalomaniac despot, he should at least issue a referendum and allow the people choice. The Iron boot of Imperialism must be destroyed utterly. Dyelli Beybi is proud to announce it's support for all rebellious movements for democratic change. Free sanctuary will be granted for all political prisoners within this evil and corrupt regime. Heil Himmler!

Welcome, this is Ho Jin for the No-Dachi News network. We are here in Altay University where scores of students are holding a candlelit vigil in support of the students in Rough Ryders and Shinkar Prime. Scenes like this are reported to be occuring on campusses all over the country as the young people of No-Dachi Yo show thier sympathy and support for the student movements in these two nations.

We have one of the students here, along with a local politician;

Reporter : So why have you decided to attend this vigil?

Student : I believe we must show our suppoet for our fellow students overseas. They are being attacked for speaking thier minds; they may have begun rioting, but only due to the fact they are fed up with an authoritarian regime theeling them what to think and do.

Politician : But the former regime of Tomi Kobe could be compared to those in Shinkar Prime and Rough Ryders could it not? People were not rioting under him.

Student : The two cannot be compared, Kobe built this nation from nothing after the Clans kept it in the dirt.

Politician : It could be said that the Governments are only doing what they are supposed to do, keeping order.

Student : Keeping order by attacking people? Keeping order by gagging people?

Politician : But if the majority are happy, then who are the minority to say how the nation should be run?

Reporter : I am afraid that is all we have time for, the debate will rage on I'm sure.

*A news conference at the Imperial Palace of Rough Ryders is taking place, Presidnet Long is ready to make his announcement*

First off I will not be taking any questions. I am out here to make my point quite clear. This riot control as I like to call it will continue to take place until I see fit for it to end. As I have received word that another nation is offering refuge to these rioters, I must address this situation as well. Do not worry about getting the blankets ready, or providing shelters and a safe haven for these pests. Do not waste your physical efforts. I will save you the time and make sure that there are none who escape. These death are not unjustified. They are a footnote in the history of my nation. This will be a day that will live in glory. It will be the day that defined my stance on those who oppose my law. If you take it upon yourself to break the law, then you will pay the deadly consequences for it.

I am also pleased to inform you that the student who instigated this riot has not been harmed. He has been taken prisoner and will face a public beating for those who do not think that I am serious. His identity is that of the student you saw on the news earlier this evening. Derrick Belville will be publicly beaten at a date I have yet to decide upon.

The last thing that I would like to state is that the prestigious nation of Rough Ryders is no longer ruled by a president. It is now ruled by a King. With myself being the first every King of Rough Ryders. There will be no more of these democratic elections to choose the ruler of the nation. I will rule the nation until I die. And then my children will take over, and my children's children. I hope the events that have unfolded today will make sure that none of you want to feel my wrath.
17-02-2004, 11:28
in my nation, any riot is looked apon as a revolt, and is treated as so, if the citizens who were involved get hurt, or killed, it is their fault, for choosing to revolt.

A speech by the Chancellor,

It has become clear to us now, that the so called Nation of "Rough Ryders" is ruled by the filthiest form of Mafia. It is ruled by the dregs of society, small minded pety despots much like it's neighbour the supposed Empire of 'Shinkar Prime'. Is it our place to stand idle, while the fruits of Socialist Revolution garnish the tables of Dyelli Beybi? No, we must feed those who have nothing. We must plant the seed of change. One Nation! One People! One Leader!

the original speech was of course in German, and went something like this...

Student protests over the volatile events in Rough Ryders and Shinkar Prime got more vocal today as a group of around 60,000, from universities all over the country, gathered outside Parliment to call for action from the Government.

One protester said "...people are being killed, just for wanting the same freedoms we have every day..."

Inside Parliment the Prime Minister addressed the situation "National sovereignty of nations is one of the main points of No-Dachi Forign policy; I will condemn the actions of these Governments here and now, however we will not involve ourselves in other peoples affairs..."

"It is quite clear to the government of HPSauce that the tyranical rulers of Shinkar Prime, and Rough Ryders, have gone too far. Oppressing their people is bad enough, but when they crush and burn a riot over basic human liberties, then it is time for the international community to respond. To this end we are willing to send 10,000 Saucologically Enhanced Elite Soldiers to defend the new protectorate and aid it in any way it requests, up to and including the overthrow of the Shinkar government. Although the nation of Itakeitall condemns the reprehensible actions of its neighbors Shinkar Prime and Rhough Rhyders, we refuse to condone or allow a foriegn force upon the soil of our region.

<<Cheers in the crowd interrupt the speech>>

The Second Army has been given its mobilization orders. We will be prepared to deal with any foriegn invasion of our allies and regional neighbors.
My people, you have seen that the government deals fairly with all, and ensures equal treatment of all. You see now the folly of democracy and the transient nature of empire. Only by forcing the equality of all people can we maintain peace and justice.

<<Cheers again erupt from the crowd>>

The nation of Phrudland, a paragon among nations, has decided to support the student protesters by airlifting food. The nation of Itakeitall offers its air bases for usage in this endeavor, and hopes that all other nations will support these poor souls in this vein. Long live the State!

<<The speech is again met by cheering from the crowd. The people quietly disperse under the watchful eyes of security cameras and armed guards>>

A speech by King Long,

I am happy to say that after a night full of unwarranted rioting, it has now stopped. We have a total of 9 people who turned themselves in and one captive who instigated the riot. The nine who turned themselves in will be publicly beaten and left in shackles for a period of 48 hours. After which they will be let out and will begin rebuilding the Presidnetial library which will be named the Royal Hall of Archives.

As for Derrick Bellville, he will be executed at sunset. He is being exectued for violation of war crimes against our fair country. Let this be a message for those of you who dare go against my will. Is it worth your life?

Also I have been notified that 5 students were able to escape the riot and have fled the country. Where ever these students end up I will expect the nation holding them to extradite them to me immediately. Then they will await their fate.

"This is INN Reporter Dana Jennings with this just in:

Three students from Rough Rhyders were found by elements of the Second Army on routine patrols. They have been brought to Miilano, the capital city, and were granted political asylum moments ago.

Chairman Aeon the 221st has refused extradition demands on the grounds that returning the students will result in their being either tortured or killed. The other two students are as yet unaccounted for.

It remains to be seen what the government of Rough Rhyders will demand, but the Chairman refuses to release the students without being assured that they will not be harmed. The network and the board, as well as most of the population, support this directive.

In hopes of containing the current instability in the region, the Chairman, at the request of the Board, has offered to deploy elements of the Third Army as peacekeepers to both Shinkar Prime and Rough Rhyders. This deployment will, if accepted, consist of the 34th, 35th, 36th, and 37th Regular Army Divisions.

The station will continue to keep all viewers posted of developments in the Unforgiven, our home region."

Breaking News- Emperor Trin Echiro addresses both the Empire and the International Community.

"People of the Shinkarian Empire, people of the entire world, given the weight of the events that have transpired recently, I feel I must be heard. As I have said on many occasions, I am a fair man. I am no tyrant. I simply hold different beliefs on government that most of my contemporaries. I do not discourage free speech, but I abhor civil disobedience. I assure you, had I not allowed free speech, there would have been preemptive arrests, and the international community would have never known.
You speak of me as if I am a vile man. I am not. I desire order and harmony within my land. You say I am denying people their basic human rights, but I am not. I believe that it is an inalienable right to have a secure homeland. I see the hypocrasy in the words of government figures who would label me as a madman. Crime in Shinkar Prime is virtually unheard of. Poverty in Shinkar Prime is steadily becoming a thing of the past. The overwhelming majority of my subjects support me. Why then, would the international community defame my character and despise me so?
I believe that it is solely because I do not fall in line with the whims of the international community that I am being disparaged so. I have fought long and hard to step from my parent's shadow. I have worked dilligently to build this great Empire, even opened our arms to refugees. Though I am but 22, I have wisdom well beyond my years, and I will live, AND rule, for many, many more years.
You belive my political philosophies are obsolete, I believe that they are entirely relevant now. Democratic figureheads are simply the head of dummy regimes, appointed by the wealthy.
The irony is, most of the defamation of my character comes from those, who at one point believed that very same thing. A great betrayal has taken place here. It was not me betraying my people, nor was it the rioters of my Empire... they can be forgiven and respected. It is the international community who has betrayed the Empire of Shinkar Prime. I rule benevolently. In most cases, my citizens have more personal freedoms than your so-called democratic lifestyles will allow.
I conceed that to some, my actions may be considered harsh, but there MUST be someone willing to take this stand. It seems that those people are few and far between.
Again, I will NOT grant passage to the Protectorate of Shettonal University to anyone, however, as a gesture of good faith on behalf of the PEOPLES of the international community... I will allow all of these former students to leave the campus, in exile, so that they may find their illusion of freedom elsewhere. However, in exchange for this token of good faith, I would ask the international community to look at itself for a moment, and ask if they TRULY believe in the inalienable rights of humanity, if they interfere with the autonomy of this, our living, breathing, Empire of Shinkar Prime. Thank you.

Cheers and shouting can be heard in all major cities of Shinkar Prime, tears are shed in relief that the crisis is ended within Shinkar Prime, and in great pride and admiration of their Emperor, who dared to stare into the face of adversity, and not waver.

Breaking news as King Long addresses the riots, and the students being harbored by Itakeitall-

Loyal subjects of Rough Ryders, I would like to thank those of you who followed the rules and did not take part in these pathetic attempts to get the King's attention. I reassure you the 9 students we have in prison will soon be dealt with, as well as the instigator Derrick Bellville.

First I would like to announce that the houses of the five students who were able to escape have been bulldozed and destroyed. In the the place of the first one will be a graveyard for all of our brave soldiers whom these students took the lives of unjustly. In the place of the second house that has been torn down, will be a landmark built to honor those soldiers who gave their lives during these un-needed riots. In the place of the third house shall be a fountain for all of you loyal subjects to come and admire. In the place of the fourth house shall be a garden to commemorate the day that the riots ended. In the place of the fifth house shall be a statue honoring your king, the greatest leader this country has ever seen.

Most importantly I would like to address our friendly neighbor Itakeitall. i understand that you do not agree with my rules of punishment. However I am willing to negotiate with you, as you have been a true ally in the past. I am sure there is some common ground our two nations can reach concerning those three students that you have in your custody. I will let you make the first offer to bring these miscreants back the nation they have wronged. As I have come to expect from you, I will be awaiting your quick and detailed response.

Loyal subjects you may go back to doing whatever it is you were doing, as I am going to retire back to the Imperial Palace.

The three young students from Rough Rhyders died today in a brilliant display of resolve. Rather than submit to return or incarceration, these three young people, two men and a woman, poured gasoline on themselves and then lit matches. Firefighters arrived too late to stop the conflagration which consumed the three student. They left a pre-recorded message playing just before they committed suicide. Here it is now."

*King Long comes out with a wuite a big smirk on his face, to address his loyal subjects*

Today I was watching the news when a sotry from our neighboring nation Itakeitall was braodcast. It seems that the three students who were remaining there, have took it upon themselves to take their own lives.

*Shock and dismay is heard among most of the subjects*

With that in mind, I would like to say how terribly tragic this was. As I had a change of heart. The students that have been in my cutody have been punished long enough. As far as Derrick Belville goes, he will be spending a tenure of 3 months in the Imperial prison. After that sentence he will be free to go as he wishes. Unfortunately this tragedy has taken place, just before I had the oppurtunity to welcome these students back, because the nation of Rough Ryders is going to hold a peace festival. This coming weekend, all the subjects and countries who were involoved in way or another with the recent riots are invited to come and take part in this. Again, the death of these three students is very tragic news.

*The crowd of subjects cheers in shock and joy at the news they have just been given. Off in the background faint laughing can be heard as King Long returns to the palace*
