Very definately so. Ofcourse, there are ways to minimise the use of animals in testing. Alternative methods can be used in the early stages of testing. However, the reaction of a medicine in a body cannot be simulated by cells on a petridish, and we know too few of the human cell to have an accurate program predicting how an agent will act.
Animals test have a far higher accuracy, and let us not forget, that in the end, there will still be human testing, before we expose the entire community to new medicine...
