Political Map of Rotovia. The Allied States of Rotovia, alternatively the Constitutional Monarchy of Rotovia, was founded thousands of years ago by a loosely organised series of powerful city-sates. The ancient history of Rotovia is somewhat close to that of Attican, namely Athens.
Modern Rotovia consists of a series of States, or Polis. Though all Polis are loyal to the central authority they contane a greater level of independance than seen in other nations and are often in competition with each other.
-----------------------
Rotovia has three level of Government, Local, State and Federal. Each given responabilty relative to their juristiction.
On a Local Level, Citizens elect a Patron Council. Original consisting only of Plebian Nobility all may now apply. There are approximatley 500 Shires, Local Division. Each with their own Patron Council. Patron Council are generally referd to as Local Councils. The Local Councils appoint all the officals in local matters.
On a State Level, Citizens elect Members to the Asembley. The Assembly is also known as the House of Representatives, or Lower House. Each States has 50 members and pass laws relivant to the Polis. Some States also have an Upper House. The Assembly was previously the Lower House of Federal Parliment. The leading party of the Assembly appoints the Consul.
On a Federal Level, Citizens elect Members to the Senate. A majority of Senators are former Aristocrats. 25 Senators are elected from each of the four Polis. There is only one House of the Senate, since the abolotion of the short lived Central House. The President and all Minsiters are appointed by the party with a majority holding in the Senate. The current President is also heir to the thrown. Though for two hundred years his family has vetoed their coronation, choosing instead to let the people choose their leaders.
-------------------------
The Areopagus Council, has little modern day power. However they once were the only federal authority. The Council consists only of Nobility of the highest standing and purest bloodlines, it has the authority to act as a Court on matters of pre-federalisation law and to appoint or strip Nobility.
------------------------
Though English is the offical language, Rotovia also has it's own language. Though it's use is limited and has not been widely used in centuaries.
This language is called Rotaj'ta, noting that it's spelling may vary as it is only a relatively new word used for describing the language to foreigners.
Rotaj'ta excists in three distinct forms; Common, Nobel & Sanctified. The tree versions are so distinct that if one spoke the Common language you could not communicated to a speaker of the Sanctified dailect.
Here is an example of this:
English Phrase: Good Morning, how are you?
Common: Vagh Ol'ham. Ava nul?
Nobel: Wogh El'haas no versi?
Sanctified: Versiage bovelli?
It may also be usefull to note the changes in wording when addresses members of diffrent classes, though this is no longer politcally correct.
Nobel addressing Common: Vich E'haas no versna?
Rotaj'ta is not often spoken outside of the Areopagus Council and then only the Sanctified version is used.
