Explosion At Military Depot

by Toby Hunter

Bronson, Oz. (TNA) - Early this morning, an explosion was heard from the Tiboritian Defense Force military depot located a few blocks south west of the port of Bronson. A government spokesman confirmed that a single explosion did occur at the depot. This contradicts witness accounts who heard at least two explosions, possibly more emanating from different locations in the depot. The spokesman was unable to say if there were any injuries and said that the cause of the explosion was being investigated.

(OOC: Ozmodiar is an island ~30 miles to the south of the main island of Tiborita)

Government spokesman Dave Glass enters the crowded press room. The room silences as he steps up to the podium.

Dave Glass: Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen. I have some comments to make and then I'll only have time to take a question or two.

This morning at 4:20 am, there were three explosions in separate locations at the military depot in Bronson. There were no injuries and the explosions damaged several trucks and equipment. There was no ordinance stored in any of the locations where the explosions occurred. The investigators have also ruled out accidental causes. The investigation has moved on to one that is criminal in nature. At this early stage of the investigation, we are not discussing suspects. And now I'll take some questions.

Jim Wallace: Jim Wallace, Tiborita Associated Press. Have the investigators been able to determine if the attack was from a domestic source or an international one?

Dave Glass: We are not commenting on that aspect of the investigation. Yeah...

Toby Hunter: Toby Hunter Tiboritian News Agency. Do you expect further attacks and should Tiboritians change their daily habits to protect themselves?

Dave Glass: We have no knowledge of further attacks. Police and federal agencies are stepping up efforts to avoid any future attacks. I would like to say that citizens are perfectly safe, everyone should feel perfectly safe as they go along their daily routine.

Toby Hunter: People should feel safe, but the police don't have a suspect and you don't know if there is a future plot-

Dave Glass: I didn't say that, Toby. We're not commenting on that aspect of the investigation. I will say that there is no reason for people to worry. Yeah...

Dave Shutton: Dave Shutton Capital City Star. Minister Herman was going to have talks this week concerning re-establishment of the Tiboritian National Militia. Are the meetings still going to happen and will the discussion change at all to perhaps establishing an anti-terrorist unit?

Dave Glass: Yes. As you know, Minister Herman, the joint chiefs and several military and civilian advisors are scheduled to meet this week. That meeting will still go on and they will set up the plan to re-establish the Tiboritian National Militia. I have been informed that they will now, in addition, set up a permanent military task force to deal with dangerous domestic threats. This will now be the central focus of the meetings.

I'm afraid that's all the time I have. Thanks.

Jim Wallace: So, What do you think Toby?

Toby Hunter: I don't know. If it was just one explosion, I would think it was some wack-job. But three explosions, and now the government is setting up some kind of military force to use on our own soil, well... somethings got them nervous.

"If it would be acceptable to the people of Tiborita, we would be willing to send a team of anti-terrorist experts from the People's Intelligecne Agency to assist your government's investigations. We frequently have to deal with suicide attacks made by Christian extremists in our cities and have extremely skilled anti-terrorist experts that could be of great help in your investigations."

OOC: Some back ground information. Tiborita is composed of the main Island of Tiborita and several other islands (Ozmodiar being the second largest of the group). Capital City is the, well, the capital city. The largest metropolitan area is Springfield, located on Tiborita. The largest metropolitan area on Ozmodiar is Bronson, which is also the regional capital.

In the 12th century, Homerclese the Great left the island of Tiborita with an arny and unified all of the islands bringing a common language, education, art, sciences, ect. to all. Lots of stuff happened over the years but basically, about ten years ago Tibor organized and then lead the Tiboritian National Militia to over throw foriegn control of Tiborita. He was then elected President. The Vice President is an inanimate carbon rod.

The Republic of Tiborita values peace and justice. Its citizens have many political freedoms and have excellent civil rights. The people remember life under the dictator and cherish their right to vote, for which there is great voter turn out. The government is composed of the Judiciary, the Senate and the Executive Office.

IC: Thank you, Minister Pickett. We, at this point, are still not sure of the scope of what has transpired. I have full confidence in the abillity of my police force and Federal Intellegence Office (FIO). We have had, however, many years of peace. I believe the directors at the FIO would appreciate some consultants to share what your nation has learned on fighting terror.

Thank you,
President Tibor

The OLA claims responsibility for the attacks on the military out-post in Bronson. We will do further acts until Tiborita removes itself from Ozmodiar.

We will gain our independence.

Minister of Defense Herman enters. "Good evening, Mr. President"

"Well, what do we know? Is this 'OLA' claim credible?"

"The FIO hasn't heard of any group calling itself OLA until now. We got the ballistics back from the explosive used on the attack. They match with the explosives we intercepted two weeks ago."

"Has that arms smuggler said anything?"

"He still says he doesn't know who the buyers were. Only that they spoke with an Ozmodian accent."

"So what so we do now?"

"The FIO has put more agents in the field in Ozmodiar. It's now up to them to track down this group."

"Anything else?"

"No sir. Thank you Mr. President."

"Good day. My name is Leftenant Karls von Kespril. My team and I are being dispatched immediately by the PIA to assist in your anti-terrorist activities. I have over forty years of dealing with terrorists, especially in very urban areas. The other twelve members of my team have a number of other specialities and skills and I hope that we can be of assistance to your intelligence services. Welcome to Bronson, Leftenant von Kespril. I'm Assistant Director Jack Marley. I'm sure glad you're here. We're kinda flying blind on this one. I have 20 of my best agents with me and the military has sent 20 MPs to be here. I'm hoping that they can learn from your experience. We are lisening to what you think we need to do. Right now, I have agents scouring the city, trying to track down any leads on this OLA.

Horst flicked his cigarette out the vans window as he drove up to the front gate of the Bronson Maritime Defense base.

"Papers," said the young guard at the gate. "Alright, go ahead."

As the gate raised, Horst shifted into first and proceeded down the road. This is almost too easy. He is supposed to drive down to the main complex to drop off a shipment of computers, but he wasn't going that far. Instead, He took a right hand turn and parked next to the fuel dump. As he got out of the van, he reached under the seat and flipped a switch. He now had 10 minutes to make it back to the front gate. He had to be careful. Ever since the OLAs first strike, the Tiboritians had been on their toes. But they were still sloppy. When the van explodes, he was confident that he could sneak out of the base.

President Tibor awoke in the middle of the night by the ringing of his phone. "mmmph... yeah?"

"Mr. President, we have a situation."

"Alright. I'm on my way."

The president was fully awake as he entered the situation room. A call like that works much better then coffee. They don't wake Presidents for nothing. "What happened?"

"Sir, at approximately 12:45 this morning," Minister Herman explained, "A vehicle exploded at the MDF base in Bronson. It was parked next to a truck refueling depot and caused the diesel to explo-"

"God damn- how many dead?"

"So far, we know 3 sailors were killed, 36 injured including 2 civilian dock workers. We expect those numbers to go higher."

"How the hell did they get a truck full of explosives onto a military base?"

"Sir, the guard at the gate said the only one through the gate at that time of night was a van of esential computer supplies. He had all the necessary paper work."

"So you're telling me you can just drive a bomb onto a base with no hassle. What happened to the driver. did he go up with the van? Please tell me we caught him."

"Sir, he most likely was able to get off the base. You know, tonight could have been much worse."

The president leaned back in his chair, took off his glasses and rubbed his eyes. "You know what it is," he said as he put his glasses back on, "We've been at peace for so long, we've put our guard down. Alright, we have to secure our bases. What do we do?"

"Sir, right now we need to have bomb sniffing dogs at the entrances of all govenment buildings along with metal detectors. We need to inspect the contents of the trucks that enter all federal property. We also need to place cement barricades to prevent high speed vehicles from busting through gates. I also want to set up random road checks throughout Bronson."

"Okay, let's do it."

To: Edolia; All Nations

My name is Aristotle Amandopolis. I am the head of the Ozmodian Freedom Council, the political arm of the Ozmodian Liberation Army. I write this to explain our cause for freedom.

Ozmodiar is seeking independence purely for economic reasons. While the main island of Tiborita has highly developed industries including mining, industrial, technological, entertainment, among others, Ozmodiar struggles. Every week, it seems, there are more lay-offs. Textile factories are closing. Our unemployment rate is now around 20% and getting worse. What happed when Powell Motors was looking at cities to build a new factory? Bronson would have been helped with the new jobs created. But did they look at Ozmodiar? No. They built the factory in Ogdenville, Tiborita. When Ozmodiar is independent, we will be able to establish protective tariffs, to keep what industry we still have, and then to develope our economy.

Edolia, what Tiborita calls terrorists, we call freedom fighters. This is a legitimate war for independence. We have attacked only military targets. We ask that you reconsider your aide to Tiborita.

To all nations, we ask that you recognize the sovereignty of Ozmodiar and the Freedom Council as the acting government until we expell Tiboritan forces and are able to hold free elections.

"After discussion, the government of Edolia has decided that the Ozmodian Liberation Army does have cause for anger. Nevertheless, Edolia still supports the rightful and popular government of Tiborita. However, we would like to suggest that something be done to quell the economic woes of Ozmodiar. What is the use of a government if it cannot provide for all of its people? Though we are not so presumptive as to expect that the people of Tiborita will embrace this concept immediately, we believe that Tiborita might do well to consider adopting elements of Edolia's economic system, known as Blatterschplitt Socialism. Combining the best elements of Communism and Socialism, we have built an economic powerhouse and a society built on equality and liberty. We strongly believe that the first course of action for dealing with dissent is peaceful negotiaton and this is no exception. With the help of Edolia, we hope that the people of Tiborita will work to better the conditions of those living on the island of Ozmodiar."

While Tiborita has many social programs, we will not adopt a central command economy. The Tiboritian government has been sending much aid to the island during their economic downturn. We've kept the schools open, and have fed the unemployed. It is our position, however, that the best thing for Ozmodiar are the free markets. We will not subsidize their industries. If they can not support a textile industry, so be it. Entrepreneurs will step forward and find an industry which fits Ozmodiar.

"I think I see one," Fritz spoke into his walkie-talkie. He was on top of a five story building. From there, he could see many of the roads in this part of western Bronson, including the major roads in and out of the city. "Blue... one of those Powell fleet beaters." Fritz focused his binoculars. "Yep. Government plates. West bound Johnson."

In the alley way below, Hans crawled from behind a dumpster, to a stack of boxes, where he gazed east down Johnson street. It was only a few seconds before a blue powell came down the street. "I've got it." Hans put down his walkie-talkie and brought his RPG to his shoulder. when he had the car in his sight, he fired.

President Tibor began the meeting. "Okay, where are we at?"

"Sir, our new anti-terrorist task force has arrived in Bronson and are taking positions throughout Bronson and several other cities. In addition, the Blackhawks have arrived and will be doing patrols mainly around Bronson, but around the entire island as well. Our road blocks have not turned up anything yet, but we feel that they are making it difficult for the OLA function as they have been."

"Thanks Herman. Director Banner, when your agents travel now, it's with the ATTF."

"Yes sir."

"Anything else? Thank you."

"Though we see the support for the people of Tiborita from their allies comforting, it is the position of Edolia that a large foreign military presense off the coast of the island would only exacerbate the problem. I do not believe that the intention of the government of Tiborita is to make the citizens of Ozmodiar -the majority of which are still loyal- believe that they are an enemy nation. If allied nations wish to show support, they should instead send specialists to assist."

Protest in Ozmodiar Turns Violent

by Toby Hunter

Bronson, Oz. (TNA) - Ozmodian protesters clashed today with Tibotitian troops in what started out as a peaceful protest against the lack of jobs being sent to the island. The protesters marched into downtown Bronson, where they were meet by Tiboritian troops who were protecting government buildings The protesters grabed rocks, and began to throw them at the government troops. The troops respondend with tear gas and plastic bullets; breaking up the demonstration. Over 500 were arrested.

The protest was over the lack of Freedom Ships being built in Ozmodian cities. Workers feel that the construction of these ships would bring much needed jobs to Ozmodiar. Government officals say Ozmodiar lacks the necessary industrial developement to support the construction of these sophisticated vessels.

Sorry... we're getting new developements out of Ozmodiar... we're going to... Capital City Star reporter David Shutton. He's in the city of Paupus. David... what's happening there?

Yeah... uh... thanks... um... about ten minutes ago a crowd of children came up here -they were... 10... no more than 12- they came to the court house here. The courthouse, is of course being a federal building, had federal troops here. They started taunting the troops... about five minutes ago citizens started to show up. They started to yell anti-Tiboritian government slogans to the troops. They began to start throwing rocks- bottles- really anything they could find, at the troops. And really, that is where we are at no- wait.

Okay we have government troops now coming up the streets behind the protesters now. They are firing into the protesters. They must be using plastic bullets- well... I know that is what they are authorived to use... alright... It looks as if the government troops are using teargas now... Okay... The government troops are moving into the crowd. They are taking prisoners now. ...uh... I'm not sure I have anything new to add now...

Thank you, David. And TNN will keep you updated on any new events.
