Operation Arctic Fury

11-02-2004, 17:03
Yesterday an intentional missle attack from the Democratic Republic of Vondell left 333 Nindinian civilians dead. We have been involved in preventing them from using their missles recently because of a previous attack which killed approx. 3,000 Nindinians. (all this can be found at this thread....http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=121872&highlight=) After Vondell targeted our civilian population yet again we decided to take more appropriate action. Today Minister of Defense Buchannon and Queen Capitia announced Operation: Arctic Fury. This new operation will consist of heavy bombing of Vondell while preparing a liberation force in the event that invasion is deemed necessary.

OOC: I'd rather you didn't do these things. I appreciate help, but come on; hasn't anyone heard of a limited war? We're not even sure if ground troops will be called in. The aim isn't to destroy every living thing in Vondell, it's to weaken it's military until it no longer poses a threat, this may end up involving an invasion, but even then nukes or any other kinds of WMD's would be off limits.
12-02-2004, 17:56
Queen Capitia has authorized Operation: Arctic Fury and it will commence in the near future. If an invasion is deemed necessary to support the air campaign, we will send our liberation force to Vondell. We request that any nations in the antarctic region willing to let us use their land as a staging ground let us know.

I condemme any full scale invastion of Vondell, he is just too small to be worth anything, true he may have attacked you intentionally but you are way bigger than him, a fight would be hopeless on his side.

What is this "liberation force" of which you speak? Do you intend to perhaps depose the Government of Vondell? If you do then the offer of aid is revoked.

No one should make a full scale invasion of him, he is to small and not worth the $$$ you would need to spend on an invasion.

12-02-2004, 20:43
The Federation of Azbinia will send a carrier battle group and an expeditionary force to assist you, Nindinia. Once these groups arrive, which may take a while, the carrier air wing will strike military and communications targets alone in conjunction with your stated aims. The expeditionary force will be retained until an invasion becomes the last recourse.
Warhammer Syndicate

In responce to your military moves, I will move a battlegroup into the area to keep watch over the tense situation.
13-02-2004, 18:04
Thank you Azbinia, your assistance is greatly appreciated. We know we can't win alone, we need to unite as allies for the good of world security. As for the Warhammer Syndicate, we advise you stand down your aggressive behaviour. It is totally within our legal limits to disable Vondell's military capabilities to harm us or anyone else. Would your nation sit by after multiple attacks that killed thousands or would you respond with force? We are not outright intending to invade Vondell, but if it is deemed necessary our liberation force will be ready. Yes, as the name implies, if the liberation force is used it will remove Vondell's current government in favor of one more friendly to the world. Fellow nations, unite against Vondell. We don't want others coming to Vondell's aide, we don't need a massive multi-nation war here, do we?

No-Dachi Yo will remain neutral in this matter then. However we may need to become involved if the Government is deposed, or an attempt is made to depose it. We feel this is a violation of national sovereignty and may feel the need to defend this.
13-02-2004, 18:52
Today President James would like to give thanks to the Warhammer Syndicate for offering support. We would also like to thank the nation No-Dachi Yo for trying to ease tensions. Our military is on it's highest alert and our civilian population is preparing for the worst. Our 100,000 man army is no match for Nindinia statistically, but they have heart and with the proper support from the Warhammer Syndicate and others they could in fact, repel an invading force.

The Azbinian Security Forces requests permission to transfer military personnel and matériel to Nindinia via air and sea. Also, we will be shipping the 13th "Black Cat" Mechanized and 23rd Armoured divisions by sea, with appropriate naval escort, pending your approval. [I am uncertain as to the size of such a force, so I'll assume it's about 50 transport vessels, 5 auxiliaries, 12 frigates, 3 general purpose and 3 air defence destroyers, supported by 5 SSNs.]

OOC: Yes, I know, but leaders must talk tough and speak of courage. Also incase something goes wrong we are safe from cries of "you said it would be easy". We did destroy Vondell's known missle stock, but they should have just let us destroy their launch facilities. We told them we meant no harm. Instead they chose to kill innocent Nindinians, and as a nation we must uphold our reputation and respond in kind with force. Also, the first attack was never proven to be an accident; they wouldn't let us investigate, perhaps they had something to hide?

To Nindinia:

Will send convoy and infantry brigade to Brown City.

To Warhammer Syndicate:

The Azbinian Government understands your concerns and wishes for an honourable solution to this dilemma. The Government hopes that Vondell will see the error of its ways and permit the dismantling of the offending launch sites under the supervision of Nindinia and a third party suitable to both Nindinia and Vondell. Reparations for the loss of Nindinian lives must also be paid, however, and an investigation into the commission of the act of barbarism against the Nindinian people must be held, with any offending government members, officials, and officers dismissed and tried before a competent court.

To all:

Any hostile act against Azbinian forces or shipping will be punished with the full force of the Security Forces' conventional arsenal. The use of unconventional weapons (i.e. chemical, biological, nuclear, etc.) will be punished in kind.

Defence Minister Edward Lewis

------

Looks of concern filled the faces of families as they waved goodbye to their sons, daughters, siblings, and spouses departing for Antarctica with the Southern Expeditionary Force. Many dockside expressed worries about supporting an undemocratic regime despite the deaths of over three hundred civilians. "How can this, of all nations, support an absolutist monarchy?" declared one mother.

So far, the Chief Minister has deflected such questions in the National Assembly. Signs of schism within the governing Social Democratic Party are beginning to emerge, however.

As I understand it, those that fired those missles should be punished to the full extent of international law. However, if any full-scale invasion happens I will be there to support Vondell along with my comrades from my region, I'm not saying it will but if it does, I'm ready to fight.

I would only fight to ward off attacks from Nindinia, I would not assault his country at all, that would be utterly hopeless. I fight only in defense of Vondell.

We have amassed our initial strike force for Operation: Arctic Fury.
It consists of 15 aircraft carriers, being escorted by 20 destroyers and 20 amphibious transport ships (in the event that invasion is deemed necessary the troops on these ships will be the first to land). 300 bombers will depart from the carriers and attack bases in Vondell City, Tipsburgh, and Port Hondo. Queen Capitia assures the nation that no matter the outcome, the Vondellan threat will be no more. Our government is waiting for the Azbinian forces to arrive so they may plan more detailed battle strategies. A huge parade and sailing off ceremony is planned for when the forces actually disembark.

5,000 regular army troops have been reassigned to a new "special warfare division". They are training civilian volunteers in the Sinti Mountains in basic weapons use and care as well as how to make explosives out of shrapnel and basic winter survival. Little is known of this new force, but they are said to be a last resort, to do as much damage as possible to invading troops using irregular means. Meanwhile, the rest of the army and other forces are still on high alert and await the arrival of the Nindinian and Azbinian assault. The military and government leadership has been moved to secret locations. Our small naval defense corps is partrolling important harbors and our air corps fighters have been spread around the country. We ask that the Warhammer Syndicate try to block the enemies' ships from entering Vondellan waters.

The Azbinian Southern Expeditionary Fleet (3 CBGs, 3 Expeditionary Forces, 2 Surface BGs) should be approaching the zone of conflict soon (ca. Monday RL), with the 1st Antarctic Expeditionary Convoy arriving afterward (about Monday RL).

Active patrolling by aircraft has increased as the vessels approach Vondell waters.

The States of seran wish to support Nidinia, the 3rd Antarctic Expeditionary force is on their way to protect your country from any major attacks and to provide assisstance in attacks.
The force consists of
1 battlecruiser,
2 attack frigates,
1 medical frigate
1 air carrier
a squadron of T-34a Helis
Wraith squadron (a successful squadron flying a mixed multitude of fighters.)

We hope that this does not escalate, as the Group is not a powerful attack force, but it can be used as a pocket defence force for Nindinia. We hope you appreciate this show of support.
The Island States
15-02-2004, 23:53
The Island States, in the interests of preserving the status quo and to protect the sovereignty of a smaller nation, will do the following:

1. Negotiate a 50-year (50 OOC days) defensive treaty with Vondell. This treaty will, in effect, make The Island States regard any attack on Vondell as an attack on our country's interests and security.

2. We will, upon permission from Vondell, send 25 Mechanized Divisions (20,000 soldiers including logistical/command support) and 10 Armored Divisions (Sporting IST-01 Light Tanks (M41 Walker-Bulldogs) and IST-02 Heavy Tanks (M60 Pattons)). These forces will be under the command of The Island States, and will leave upon request of Vondell.

3. We will immediately deploy the Nimitz-class carriers Asherton, Freeport and Lovell, in addition to their escorts, to prevent any hostile vessels from entering Vondell's territorial waters (upon Vondell's request).

4. Any attack using Weapons of Mass Destruction (Nuclear, Chemical or Biological) on Vondell will be viewed as an attack by aggressive nations upon The Island States, which will be met with a full nuclear counterattack upon all of the nations participating on the offense on Vondell, not just the nation that launched. Ballistic missile fired at The Island States will be met by our region's ABM system.

5. If an offensive war is pursued, we will respond by invading Nindinia with additional forces. If we are forced to do this, we will not stop until an unconditional surrender is declared by Nindinia and it's territories occupied by The Island States and its allies in this fight.

[EDIT - Word correction]

The Island States, in the interests of preserving the status quo and to protect the sovereignty of a smaller nation, will do the following:

This is entirely unsatisfactory, as the status quo in question involves the continual slaughter of innocent Nindinians by Vondell through missile attacks. Smaller nation or not, such behaviour cannot be countenanced, and must be subject to retribution.

[OOC: 700,000 troops? Er... panic.]

The Federation of Azbinia, as previously stated, considers the use of unconventional weapons, save as measures of last resort or in response to like measures, as an abomination. [OOC: What sort of ABM system are we talking of here?] Do The Island States propose instead a one-sided exchange of such weapons as there was with the missiles that struck Nindinia?

5. If an offensive war is pursued, we will respond by invading Nindinia with additional forces. If we are forced to do this, we will not stop until an unconditional surrender is declared by Nindinia and it's territories occupied by The Island States and its allies in this fight.

To consider what the Allied Forces (i.e. Nindinia and Azbinia) are committed to a war of aggression is to grossly misrepresent what is at issue. Shall the international community permit a nation to murder civilians merely because it is small? Should not the appropriate response be to chastise the offender, rather than lavish aid upon such nation? At the very least, Azbinia demands that reparations be made to Nindinia for the loss of life and of property, and that those who perpetrated the slaughter of innocents to be tried before a competent international tribunal.

The Federation of Azbinia does not desire to broaden this incident. Indeed, the Government wishes its swift termination, preferably by diplomatic means. The threats and assistance of other nations to Vondell make the possibility of a just solution difficult.

In response to the support of barbarism offerred by some in the international community, the Federation of Azbinia invokes full mobilization and, also due to those international threats, placed our Strategic Missile Force on rapid response alert. The Government hopes that these measures will simply be a trigger for a diplomatic solution.

-----

Unrest increased in the capital today as word came about The Island States' ultimatum on the Vondell Incident. The Government has ordered a full mobilization and has placed the Nation on full alert.

"We can hope for little mercy from those who support terrorists," stated Foreign Minister Breckinridge. "We'd hoped for a peaceful solution, but some in the international community simply want war."

Protesters outside Parliament insist the reverse, arguing the Government, eager to show a strong presence in international politics, is pressing the Nation towards a war it can't possibly win.

The Island States wishes to propose the following to bring the tensions down and to promote a diplomatic solution on this eve of uncertainty (however, this is all dependant on Vondell, whom we are still awaiting a response from, so this is preliminary and subject to change):

1. Nindinia will cease all troop buildup against Vondell. Both sides may keep their militaries on high alert for the meanwhile, but should begin stepping down from the brink within [one RL day].

2. The Island States will downgrade it's current Strategic Nuclear Arsenal Readiness from Orange to Yellow. Instead of having around-the-clock, don't leave your station manning of all silos, we will have a lax protocol. However, the missiles will remained fueled but their silo doors closed. ABM systems (TIS using similar to RL systems being readied for use in RL USA) will remain on high-alert for the next [18 hours].

3. The Island States Navy will hold it's relative position near the equator in International Waters and await further orders. They will not progress further south unless given direct orders from President Rick Rivera or Emergency Command (in the event that a catastrophic disaster wipes out our executive branch's ability to command TIS's armed forces).

4. All allies on both sides will immediately standdown over [the next 24 hours].

5. Vondell agrees to multilateral inspections to determine that it's existing missiles are for defensive purposes only and that long-range launch platforms are rendered unoperational or commercialized.

6. Nindinia and Vondell agree for multilateral inspections to determine that their armies are standing down from combat readiness. The Island States will agree to inspections by multilateral sources to determine that it is withdrawing to pre-hostility positions.

7. Vondell and Nindinia begin talks to heal these wounds and to move on. Any agreed upon reparations MUST BE LIMITED so that humiliation and economic collapse do not occur (on such a scale as they did in post-WWI Germany).

8. Vondell and Nindinia sign a non-aggression treaty following their talks in order to secure peace for both sides, if albeit temporarilly, for a short while for both sides to settle down. Allies following up on both sides will just shake hands and part ways for the time being unless otherwise stated and negotiated.

Some of this may not be ideal for either side, but we must do this to secure the peace. We lit a match to get some attention, it's up to either side to see if they want it thrown on the puddle of gasoline they've spilled.

The Federation of Azbinia is amenable to the proposals of The Island States. The Government does not wish to bankrupt Vondell, just to prevent the reoccurrence of a missile attack.

FAN vessels will continue southward in compliance with the Government's present arrangements with Nindinia, but will remain well outside of Vondell waters (250 nm from the coast). Azbinian naval air assets will fly only defensive (i.e. fleet air defence and anti-submarine) and resupply missions in and immediately around the fleet.

The Strategic Missile Force has reduced to yellow alert.
The Island States

Due to Azbina's good faith in easing tensions, The Island States will now comply with it's agreed terms. All we wait for now is Nindinia and Vondell's response.

In a stunning reversal of what appeared to be hostile leanings to defend Vondell, a country The Island States did not know of until a short time ago, President Rick Rivera unvealed an eight-part agreement for all nations involved to agree upon. Azbinia was the first to recognise the agreement, although continuing to provide defensive support for Nindinia.

"It is a good thing to see nations ease off this bloody path to war," President Rivera said during a press conference held just a few minutes ago. "Even if we did have to throw some kerosene onto this fire to get everyone's attention first." Rivera then stated that The Island States would follow through with it's commitments. "Our navy is already preparing to sail back to port and activity at our military base in Vulcanus, originally built to defend that country from attacks by a long-gone Antarctican nation, will eventually return to pre-hostility levels." The President would not accept further questioning, as reporters began to ask about the nation's continuing transition from Imperialism to the former Republic-style of government. President Rivera, who once held the titles of Provisional President of the Island States and Emperor of The Island States, has been in office since the nation's founding after a bloody war for independance.

Reports are now coming in that The Island States' Navy vessels are now reportedly steaming northward as anticipated. They will arrive back in port within a few days. Their speed is reportedly very high, as Tropical Depression Eight begins to intensify within the region. It is expected to reach tropical storm and hurricane strength quickly as it begins to take a traditional path near The Island States. Forecasters are watching the storm closely for any possible changes in the storm's path. From the CNV-01 'Freeport', this is TISNN . . .

Sotha Sill and I have moved parts of our forces into Vondellian waters and lands in defense of the small nation. We will only fight back if attacked in the first place
16-02-2004, 18:51
We appreciate all the help in avoiding conflict, but the operations must go forward as planned. The Vondellan government must be stopped. Our battle group is currently setting out and should arrive in Vondellan waters in weeks (tomorrow in RL). Revservists have been activated to guard the homefront and we accept and welcome Seran's effort to help us. We ask that Azbinia stay the course. We believe that the Island States are bluffing in their threats. They wouldn't risk a larger, major-theater war. We ask that the Warhammer Syndicate stand down. Operation: Arctic Fury will take place and the thousands of innocent Nindinians killed will be avenged.

All units in Vondellian territory have been placed on the highest alert status. The military has been authorized to use leathal force against Nindinian troops if they shall make it upon shore. All portable SAM batteries have been activated.

In support of Nindinia and in response to Warhammer Syndicate's gearing up for war, Azbinian naval forces regretfully increase speed towards Vondell.

The Federation of Azbinia hopes that the government of Vondell sees reason and agrees to the proposals put forward by us and The Island States. Failure to comply will allow this unfortunate circumstance to become a most horrendous conflagration.

Edolia, I would like to extend my hand in friendship to you. The Island States and I are planning military action against Nindinia. He is going to invade Vondell with a population of 18 million. That just isnt honorable, its more like an excuse to make people think his Army is all big and bad.

To Nindinia:

The Azbinian Government is receiving plenty of flak from protesters at home. Also, this conflict seems to be broadening beyond our capacity.

The Azbinian Government must recommend to Edolia to permit a chance for diplomacy. There was no absolute statement by Nindinia regarding Vondell and the failure of potential talks. Second, continued efforts by an ever-widening circle of powers to subvert the course of some form of reparations is appalling. Is it just to fire missiles against a nation that has not behaved aggressively? Vondell perpetrated an act of war, of aggression, against Nindinia. To allow Vondell to behave so scandalously, to launch missiles without any repercussions, is contrary to the interest of world peace. Yet all these nations stress the injustice of Nindinia's actions. What if Vondell had committed this heinous crime against Edolia, The Island States, or the Warhammer Syndicate? Would the other two nations simply accept what happenned to the third, and indeed support other nations who think it wrong to punish Vondell simply because it is small?

Shall Vondell cower behind its larger friends, or will it accept an appropriate punishment, that which we recommended earlier?

The Island States is steaming towards Nintendia with three Carrier Groups and three Amphibious Naval Group. Our intention is to counterattack Nindinia if their forces as much as use peashooters on Vondell. All of our forces are back to full combat alert.

The Island States will give Nindinia [18 RL hours, or 1830 EST] to withdraw or we will launch submarine-launched cruise missiles at key military and government facilities. If they refuse ahead of that time schedule, the bombardments will occur sooner. If they either do not accept the deadline or do not reply, their country will be promptly invaded upon arrival of our army and surface fleet.

Already deployed in Nindinia's waters:

2xLos Angeles Class Submarines (silent running)

1 TIS Carrier Group:

1xNimitz Supercarrier (and accompanying aircraft)
4xArleigh Burke Guided-Missile Destroyers
6xTiconderoga Cruisers
4xLos Angeles Attack Submarines
1xOhio Class Ballistic Missile Submarine

-------------------

1 TIS Amphibious Group (tasked into the protective sphere of an carrier group and assigned escorts):

Navy Component:

10xAssault Ships (tasked to carry 2,000 soldiers, 3 TIS-02 Heavy Tanks and 6 LCUs each)
60xLCU Landing Craft (able to carry 400 soldiers or 3 TIS-02 Heavy Tanks)

5xTiconderoga class Cruisers

Army Component:

20,000 Infantrymen (a full division)

The Commnity is saddened by this turn of events and Nindinia's rejection of a peace accord. We have decided to aid Vondell in thier fight against this invasion of thier sovereignty; we will announce that $4.5 billion worth of military aid was shipped to Vondell before the military buildup reached Vondellian (?) waters. These included supplies and munitions delivered on cargo planes and ships. Funds for the upkeep of the hardware supplied are have also been sent.

(OOC : These shipments were privately done via TG, Vondell can comfirm. I annouced this so nobody could accuse him of Godmodding when he uses more advanced weaponry)

I pledge my alliance to Warhammer Syndicate. I'm now sending aid and military help to the Vondellian Gov't. This war is going to have heavy losses for both sides. I wish you reconsider what your doing.

17-02-2004, 20:25
Azbinia responds to the aggressive stance of the various powers arrayed against Nindinia by heightening the alert status of all of its forces. An additional submarine squadron is being sent southwards. Please note that any hostile actions taken against Azbinian or Nindinian forces prior to any actual assault against Vondell would be considered an act of war and will receive an appropriate response.

The expansion of this potential conflict benefits no-one. We insist that Vondell accept the proposals made by us and The Island States to prevent the reoccurrence of this unfortunate state of affairs. Simply propping up Vondell as the benighted defender of small nation sovereignty is an inaccurate assessment of the situation. It, not Nindinia, was the aggressor nation. Should not aggressor nations suffer repercussions for their actions? Bluntly, by supporting Vondell you are supporting nationally sponsored acts of terror. By funding Vondell, you are financing further terrorism. The Federation of Azbinia has no desire to injure the people of Vondell, merely to ensure that its government no longer behaves in such a wretched manner.

Terrorism? What a preposterous charge. Yes the first missile accident was perpetrated by Vondell, and they should pay reparations, however there is no proof this was either more than an accident or that it was directly targeted at the civilian targets. Nindinia then bombed Vondell, they acted, and now Nindinia is thretening to depose a Government, we will not stand for this violation; this threat and this alone is the reason No-Dachi Yo gave support to Vondell.

(emphasis added by Azbinia)

Whether or not the missile attack was an accident, Vondell must offer reparations to Nindinia. Should Vondell offer reparations, which it has not, in good faith, Azbinia will stand down and recommend to Nindinia to do likewise. Also, the Azbinian government recommends that those responsible for the attack be held accountable for their actions before a competent international tribunal.

The two Los Angeles class submarines offshore of Nindinia rise up to firing depth, receiving last-minute targetting information from ISNC (Island States Naval Command). Their crews programmed the cruise missiles, about 5 per sub, and waited for the red digital clock to count down to 0.

The Tomahawk missiles were released, flying out of the water as the firing subs dove back down to try and evade detection. The missiles were heading for the capital city and a nearby military base, their targets were the Ministry Offices, Radar Installations, and a Command and Control Center.

"At 1830 EST, as dictated ultimatum, we fired the first volley of cruise missiles at Nindinia. The Congress of the Second Republic has declared war on Nindinia," President Rick Rivera said in a televised press conference. "Nindinia did not respond to our ultimatum, which signalled to us that their intentions were to follow through on their invasion of Vondell. I ask all citizens of the Second Republic to pray for Nindinia's citizens, for they may be in grave danger tonight. Good night, and may victory come soon."

AIDE: We did manage to stop one from hitting the ministry offices.

BUCHANNON: Ready all available troops and FIND THOSE SUBS! And Get me on television.

*Buchannon is now appearing on national television.

BUCHANNON: Good evening my fellow Nindinians. As you know our battle group is on it's way to free the people of Vondell, while here at home we face a very real threat. It has become common knowlege that we were attacked by the Island States. Specific targets included military commands, radar sites, and ministry offices. It is with sorrow that I announce this....our beloved Queen Capitia was on a secret inspection of the command center that was destroyed and she has been confirmed to be among the dead. As of this moment I am in charge of this nation. As you know Queen Capitia had no living heir, she was pregnant with what was to become our new leader. As by federal law I am now eligible to become King. We ask all men of fighting age to report to your local recruiting stations. We will not stand for this! Rest assured, we will be victorious. The Island States, Vondell, and any other rouge nations that attempt to help them will be no more.

The Alllied Union of Shmur provisional government is saddened to hear about the attack on Nindinia. We are nuetral in this conflict, but believed a diplomatic solution could have worked. Three squadrons of F/A-18 Hornets took off from the carrier Freeport. Two squadrons were loaded with either AIM-9X Sidewinder or AIM-120 AMRAAM missiles, the other squadron with Maverick missiles. Their job, as dictated by Admiral John Frost, would be to engage and probe enemy airpower, and if possible, destroy grounded air assets and ground vehicles. Shortly after the fighter/bombers took off, an E3 Hawkeye launched off the deck. It's radar pierced the night air, searching for air targets in the moonless skies.

The airplanes flew over the beach, heading inland over possible landing beaches. The invasion was planned shortly after the return of the F/A-18 skirmish. Off of the assault ships rolled the LSUs, large cranes loading tanks into some and rope ladders giving soldiers access.

The carriers were 45 miles offshore, taking no chances with possible air and naval threats. A few destroyers would accompany the LSUs in, along with AH-1 Cobra helicopter support and the full usage of the carrier's fighter/bomber support.

The Fourth Fleet diverts from its course to Vondell and begins heading towards Nindinian waters...

-----

Bowing to popular will against the war against Vondell, President Burton has dismissed the Government. Even so, Burton insists its commitments to Nindinia will be met. "Aggression must be responded to in kind," she declared before Parliament today.

All Azbinian security forces were placed on high alert today. Reservists burdened the roadways and rail stations trying to reach their mobilisation destinations. "It's a pity it had to come to this, but we'll do our best," said one reservist.

At present, the Admiralty has given no information on the disposition of the Antarctic/Second or Fourth fleets. Strange weather causing havoc with broadcasts was stated by the previous Government as a possible reason why Vondell has not responded to Azbinia's entreaties. Chief of Defence Staff Martensen disagrees. "They're just playing possum."

The mood in the country is one of resignation, but not hopelessness. Perhaps peace may win out.

"We wish to make it clear to the people of the Island States that though we stand with them and send them our moral support, they must make sure that as little harm as possible is done to the people of Ninidia and that the country does not descend into anarchy. The stated purpose of this intervention was to keep 'a big nation from steamrolling a little one.' Let us make sure that this does not happen. Relations between our two countries could be badly hurt if this war becomes too bloody. We suggest that after destroying the Ninidian invasion force, the Island States withdraw. A ground war would be disasterous and would result in the casualties of millions. Though we consider ourselves close friends of the Island States, we will not stand for overt aggression. "We continue to run interference. With the other assault groups transporting infantry and tanks to Vondell, we should be able to mount a fairly effective defense if Nindinia decides to come back. Keep up the appearance that we are readying to load our transports for an invasion, and move the fleet north."

"When will the missile raids end, sir?"

"In four hours, we'll pull the fleet back to a striking position 100 miles offshore. The amphibious assault groups will then leave under the cover of darkness and steam towards Vondell, taking a long curve to hopefully escape detection. They'll drop off troops at Vondell and help the other groups bring in more reinforcements. After ten hours, we'll withdraw the carriers and bring them into position in Vondell's waters to repel any advance by Nindinia or it's allies. At that point, we'll see."

The other two struck the hull, tearing large gashes into the steel.

"Mayday! Mayday! We've taken heavy damage and we are on fire! We're requesting that all fire-fighting crews on the remaining two carriers be transferred to help put out the Freeport. Flight Ops are out and our fuel tanks are in danger of igniting. We may be able to save the ship, but it's a shot in the dark."

-----------------------------------------------------

The President listened to this over his speakerphone with Fleet Admiral Johnson and General of the Army Peters. "This is what I feared would happen," The President said. "Prepare to launch another volley of tomahawk missiles, and do not let the remaining two carriers leave station. Their escorts will assist in leveling Nindinia's port facilities to rubble before we leave. Is there any word on Azbina's fleet?"

"No, sir. Other than the submarines that possibly launched the harpoons, there is not a word," Johnson replied.

"I want constant ASW coverage around all of the ships. The instant they pick up a submarine, a whale or a turd as much as approaching our ships, I want it wiped off the face of the Earth. You got me?" Rivera asked.

"Yes, Mr. President. Right away," Johnson replied.

"The invasion is back on," Rivera said. "I'm done with this crap. General Peters, you are hereby ordered to invade Nindinia at 2100 EST with everything you got. Your men will be ordered to keep this fight between soldiers only, except his civilians take up arms against us. Your men will not lay a hand on innocent civilians under any circumstances. Is that clear?"

"Yes, sir," Peters replied.
-----------------------------------

As the Freeport burned on the horizon, the amphibious group turned around to aid the carrier groups. President Rivera, who wanted to keep a ground invasion as a last, but not so remote, resort was now being pushed into launching one.

"Sir, we have orders that as soon as we reach the carrier task force that we will begin landing troops as per Operation Winter Storm," A lieutenant told his captain onboard the assault ship "Blue Jay".

"Very well," The captain said as he took the note from the lieutenant. "Load the soldiers and tanks. We will invade at [2100 EST]. The President says this is no-BS. Once the task forces loading troops to Vondell get back into port later tonight, they're coming here on the double with more forces."

"What's the Rules of Engagement, sir?" An army colonel asked as he walked up.

"There will be a zero-tolerance policy of killing civilians. Your boys as much as spit on an innocent civilian and they'll be in for a world of hurt. You are authorized to shoot-to-kill all soldiers and any civilians that have taken up arms against our forces. We are to abide by the Rules of Warfare, such as those that apply to POWs and the like. We will not use WMD unless they are used on us, but that's all up to Strategic Missile Command and the President himself because the nukes are back home."

*At a radar monitoring station in the mountains*

Sir, nice day isnt it? Yes, said the CO of the base, keep a watch on the screen, anything could happen.

About an hour later something caught his eye...There was a small blip on the screen that came and went but disappeared 3 minutes later. Sir! there was some un-identified object flying around out there a few minutes ago, but now its gone. "See of you can re-locate it" said the CO. "I got it back, sir" said the operator. "Its not one of ours" he said. Alert the SAM crews! Targert aquired!!!

Un-Identified aircraft this is Warhammer Syndicate Aerospace you in violation of our airspace, turn around immediatly or you will be shot down.

*There is no reply from the aircraft*

*The SAM site on the side of the mountain began tracking the aircraft streaking towards the capitol city.*

The CO issued the order to fire at will.

"Missles are away" Seconds later a loud bang was heard and a fire ball swept through the sky only to hit the ground. Get a unit up there!!!!

As the research team got closer, someone started firing pistol shots at them. It turned out to be the pilot who ejected right after the missile hit. The pilot has been taken into custody and is going to be interrogated. We have reason to belive he is a Nindinian pilot working survelliance flights, Nothing has been confirmed yet.

The moon was a thin sliver in the night sky as the soldiers were handed their kits: Their standard assault rifles, flashbang grenades to clear civilians, hand grenades and the complimentary pistol.

The LSUs were lowered carefully into the water, some with 400 men in them, others with manned and ready M60 tanks. Their planned assault beach would be hit hard by bombing runs by six squadrons of F/A-18s and then by the destroyer's deck guns. They would fire starshells first (kinda like fireworks) to scare civilians away, then blast the beach into pieces. If all went to plan, they would have a beachhead ready in two hours minimum and would have begun their advance to the closest city.

The LSUs slipped into the night to begin the invasion. Liberation had come to Nindinia.

The Island States began picking up radar transmissions from Azbinian naval forces...

Working from information garnered from Nindinian forces and the five subs Azbinia has in Nindinian waters, both the Antarctic and Fourth fleets are preparing to launch three strike packages each.

Each strike package consists of...
3 flights of Rafale M on CAP, each plane with MICA (4 IR and 4 radar) and fuel tanks
4 flights of Rafale BM (previously referred to as Rafale N) on strike mission, each plane with 1 Harpoon and 2 MICA-IR and 4 MICA-EM (radar guided)
1 flight of Rafale BM-EW, each plane with 2 MICA-IR
2 flights of Rafale BM-ADS, each plane with 2 MICA-IR, 4 MICA-EM, 2 Alarm anti-radar missiles

with at least 1 flight of Rafale M (of 2) flying fleet air defence CAP with E-2C Hawkeyes, with a flight of Rafale BM or of Rafale M on ready alert to be launched on notification of an imminent attack.

The original two LA-class submarines began to monitor the approach of the Azbina fleets. While they monitored, more submarines began to approach from the northwest. Ten LA-class submarines guided in on silent running, their missile launchers loaded with Sub-launchable Harpoons. In their tubes were Mk. 48 torpedoes, all set to run below the water line. Their objectives would be to fire a massed wall of Harpoons at the Azbina carriers while firing torpedoes at the larger battleships. They would then flee to the Northwest, meeting up with the carrier groups.

Simultaneous to the Harpoon strike, eight squadrons of F/A-18s (back from their bombing mission at that time) would take off, loaded with 2 Sidewinders and 2 Harpoons each. They would approach from the Northeast and launch from 100 miles distance. The missiles from both submarine and airplanes would reach the general vicinity at the same time.

--------------------------------------------------

The LSUs were close to shore, being shot at by ground troops. The first to disembark would be the infantry, followed by the tanks. 3 divisions and 90 TIS-02 Heavy Tanks would be disembarked in the first wave, giving the operation a high chance of success. Overhead came the six squadrons of F/A-18s for their quick strike, followed by the quick succession of Destroyer starshells to warn civilians to stay clear. The F/A-18 Hornets launched CBU-78 Cluster Bombs onto the beaches (4 per plane, 64 per squadron, 384 in total), reserving their 2 Sidewinders and 2 AAMRAMS for any enemy airplanes that may decide to join the fun. Their beach hit had to count, as they carried a lot of the carrier's onboard supplies of CBU-78s (some having been transferred from the Freeport before she went to the North to link up with a recovery team). The strike force's CBU-78s would be replaced shortly by rearmament ships, but they were twelve hours away.

---------------------------------------

Tomahawk missiles against flew over Nindinia, heading towards their port facilities. They would strike the naval facilities, rendering the Nindinian fleet without the full capacity to dock its fleet. As they soared over the terrain, they locked onto the piers and warehouses below...

Interrogations are still going on but they did manage to get some information out of him. If indeed he is Nindinian he will be kept as a POW under the Geneva Accords.

Since Nindinia has his hands full with TIS, I will be withdrawing 50% of my forces on Vondell to newer positions wherever I see fit.

From 400 km out, the six strike packages (three from each fleet) began to fly towards the Island States fleet at low level, with the CAP operating at about 2,000 ft above sea level until reaching final approach. The air defence suppression flights begin prioritizing targets using their RWR. The ADS, EW and strike aircraft would not activate their radar until within the firing range of the Harpoon missiles. The CAP flights would intermittently activate their radars once beyond the Hawkeye envelope.

Communique from Island States Presidental Palace:

"We gave Nindinia the chance to accept peace and step away from the aggressive action of invading Vondell. We gave them the opportunity to receive the compensation they deserved. They rejected it, believing we would not take it to the next level and land on their beaches. Nindinia knew it would come, and unless they agree to immediate peace talks with Vondell, this war will continue until our soldiers either march through the gates of Nindinia's capital or the jaws of death."

"Azbinia, your fleet is in danger of destruction as long as it stays in Nindinia's waters. If it does not withdraw immediately, it will suffer ever-increasing attacks until it is destroyed or retires."

---------------------------------------

After receiving the transmission, Naval Command ordered the harpoons dropped from the six squadron's weapon layout and replaced with Air-to-Air Missiles. They launched towards the Azbinia fleet, hoping to achieve air superiority as the Battle of Nindinia began to widen.

TO SUBMARINE FORCE ALPHA

YFSJ-291B-FN74-NFHE

Target priority change is in effect. Harpoon missiles and torpedoes will target enemy DDG anf FFG ships. Cripple or destroy as many as you can before fleeing to rendevous point. Attempt to disable or sink carriers only if opportunity arises.

All supply vessels encountered are to be destroyed upon given opportunity.

IMMEDIATE LAUNCH REQUIRED.
------------------------

The submarines began to close, coming to within 40 miles of Azbina's Antarctic Fleet. A warm water current above them provided the thermocline needed to stay hidden, their passive sonar listening for any submarines that may be looking for them.

They would launch Harpoons as soon as they encountered the ASW patrols, then use the confusion to begin using torpedoes on the Azbinian fleet.

"Albatross Leader to Nest! Albatross Leader to Nest Radar contacts confirmed! Closing distance to use sidewinders."

"Roger that Albatross Leader. Nest recommends downing EW aircraft first. Use guns in dogfights and missiles for long-range hits. Knock 'em dead, Nest out."

"Radar contacts, sir! Vampire, vampire, vampire!" shouted MS Oscar Whitley in the Laika's CIC. The CIWS and short-range missiles were switched to automatic as helicopters began to seek out the submarines with sonobuoys while the escorts began pounding the ocean with active sonar. Ships turned to present the smallest possible aspect and widest possible arc for their countermeasures to the incoming missiles. Chaff blossomed around the vessels as they fought for their lives. Countermeasures managed to deflect some of the damage, decoying off forty-three missiles, while SAMs and CIWS accounted for a further fifty-three, allowing forty-eight to enter the fleet. Two struck the hospital ship Caritas, one breaking off her bow upon impact, the other failing to explode but causing a horrendous fire that still threatened to detonate the warhead. Sixteen struck frigates, eight of which immediately split in two after being struck amidships, while three were struck in the bows and began to dive beneath the waves, two were struck aft. A further three battled against raging fires and gaping holes that threatened to sink another two at least. Five struck supply vessels, causing massive explosions that threatened to sink other ships. Three struck air defence destroyers, one ripping out the CIC and slowly engulfing the rest of the ship in a consuming fire, another with a gaping hole just above the waterline causing a terrible list. The third missile, disabled somewhat by the CIWS, managed to strike the bridge of the destroyer, wreaking havoc on the rest of the vessel. Another twelve hit eight general purpose destroyers, sending seven quickly beneath the waves while the last battled with raging fires. Three struck the guided missile battlecruiser Hecate, causing a welter of explosions that were as dangerous as they were bright, billowing acrid black smoke high into the sky. Six struck five cruisers that threatened to capsize. The last missile struck the Laika head on, blowing an enormous hole in her bow and rendering the forward catapults irreparable. Several aircraft in the forward deck park fell into the sea from the impact and fires threatened to set off the remainder.

The four subs above the thermocline, found the enemy subs as they fought their way towards safety, while the four below, noting the explosions above, began searching for subs themselves. Torpedoes streamed towards their targets...

Much of the Antarctic Fleet was seen burning on the horizon today after a massive attack from the Island States. As yet, the Admiralty has released no accounts of the losses. It is unknown whether any damage occurred to any of the Island States' vessels.

The Island States' amphibious groups began to pull troops off the beaches, along with the tanks. Signs were hammered into the ground to mark minefields, a gesture of goodwill to the civilian population for them to stay clear.

Fires again burned on the horizon as the carrier fleets took damage from the harpoons. 14 DDGs were severely damaged from tomahawk and harpoon strikes (eight of them not expected to make it back to port), and 6 were sunk outright. 5 FFGs took damage, and were down to skeleton crews to help reduce the loss of live should they sink. The carrier Asherton suffered a direct strike from two Tomahawks while it's CWIS was trying to take care of the harpoons. A large gaping hole lay on her portside, making sure she couldn't go beyond 15 knots. Another had trashed the landing portion of the flight deck, leaving it's planes to find the third carrier to ditch into the sea.

The F/A-18s had taken losses. having about four squadrons (16 planes per squadron) of planes wiped out or forced to ditch into the sea because their base carrier was crippled and could not land them while fires raged.

The Island States had fought a bloody war, and now it was time to go home for repairs. With Nindinia wishing to negotiate peace with TIS and Vondell, there was no need for the continued war. The TIS Legislature dropped the declaration of war, stating that peace had been achieved.

TIS troops in Vondell would stay on station until their transports came back for them. In the meantime, they would discuss military tactics with Vondell and help train new recruits for their army. If Vondell wished, further training would commence and Vondell's army would be elegible to buy TIS-02 Heavy Tanks (M60 Pattons) at reduced cost.
