Today, the newly established Federation of Sapiena announces that it has has achieved independence from the United Socialist States of Whittier.
Sapiena was the second largest state member (after Whittier) in the USS of Whittier. With Sapiena's secession, Whittier has lost 1/4 of its territory remaining after several other socialist states had declared their independence previously. Whittier and Sapiena have signed a mutual treaty to promote economic and security cooperation between our new nation and the Whittier Socialist Block. In another treaty we have pledged to keep our common border open but secure.
Independence was acheived when the Whittier Politburo voted to accept the results of a state wide independence referendum.
The current treatry calls for a drastic reduction of Whittier troops in Sapiena and the closing of almost all Whittierite bases in the new nation (built during the days of the 1st cold war between Whittier and South Pacific.) However, the two will remain military allies.
Sapiena seeks diplomatic and trade relations with other nations in Nationstates.
