08-02-2004, 08:07
Vatican City - In a public press release at 3 PM GMT, Archbishop Joseph Masnica, Catholic Senate appointed Chancellor of Gyland announced the Passing Pope Jeffrey Paul II, who has suffered from a long illness since November of last year. Pope Jeffrey Paul II, who would have turned 96 years of age on June 9th was the well loved and respected leader of the Holy Roman Catholic Church as well as the Religious and Political Leader of the Catholic nation, the Holy Republic of Gyland. Pope Jeffrey Paul II took over the duties of his Brother, Pope Jeffrey Paul I after his assassination by Anti-Catholic Communist rebels on March 3rd 1969 less than 2 years after founding the nation of Gyland. Chancellor Masnica's statement, which was primarily worded to Gyland's allies within the New Roman Empire was short and stated:

"It is my duty to bring you the most horrible of news. His holiness, Pope Jeffrey Paul II, who has been very Ill for quite some time, was called unto heaven by the Lord our God at 11:22 AM GMT on the Seventh day of February in the year of our Lord 2004. The people of Gyland are to begin 24 hours of fasting and praying on Sunday, February 8th, to mourn the passing of the greatest of Gyland's Religious and Political leaders. We know the condolences of our Allies are with us at this time, and take comfort in that fact."

The Gyland Freedom Movement, the Anti-Catholic Communist guerilla forces who claimed responsibility for the assassination of Pope Jeffrey Paul I, also claimed they had assassinated Pope Jeffrey Paul II on November the 12th. The pope has not made any public appearances after this date. The Gyland government refutes such claims as "ridiculous". No word has been received from the GFM on the announcement of the Pope's death.
