The Whore Wars

07-02-2004, 04:37
Given that, despite repeated warnings, the band of criminals that refers to itself as the "government of Galdania" insists on denying fundamental individual rights to its citizens, the Republic of Ithuania has no choice but to intervene in the situation. To that end, the Ithuanian First Armored Division has been given the go-ahead to land on Galdania's northern coast. The first tanks will roll off the transports in approximately six hours.

(ooc: If Galdania doesn't mind, I'd like to keep this closed except to those who have already declared alignment one way or the other).

A legion of subs and other ships patrolled the Northern coast. It was winter, and much of the Grey Sea was still under the icy grasp of the Spadtz Glacier, as it had been for the last few thousand years. However, pollution was causing it to receed, and the coast itself was not under the Glacier. Icebergs floated all throughout the Sea, with submarines passing warily close to them. With the Ithuanian attack launched, Galdania was ready to sink any incoming ships.

Only 17 prostitutes were killed since the U.N legalisation on prostitution, but Galdania's democratically elected government had killed thousands since 1936. In fact, in 1913, 23 years before communist takeover, the French and Russian governing coalition had launched a cull on prostitutes and other criminal elements. Back then, prostitution was needed for a woman to feed her family, but in a modern day and age, in Galdania's socialist utopia, where all were provided for, prostitution was capitalism, and capitalism was oppression. And the People of Galdania would not stand for oppression.

(as per Ithuania's request, the Holy Empire will involve itself only so far as I said they would before.)

On the floor of the United Nations, delegates were becoming swiftly accustomed to a young and impassioned voice. Shamsiel, UN ambassador and head of foreign relations for the fledgling theocracy, was a firebrand of a speaker and rather adept at making his point clear. He had taken to quoting repeatedly from the book of Jomjael, a book in the sacred scrolls of the Holy Light of Kokablel (may it shine forever). It was commonly known outside of their nation as the 'book of the sword' as it was a text almost entirely on the management of government, commonly referred to as the sword.

Shamsiel was in the midst of screaming in an effort to garner favor for proposals to seek sanctions on the nation of Ithuania, his voice rising with the heat of a star and his eyes nearly mad with the insane zeal only the deeply devout ever display (that or madmen, but who could tell with him?)

"Lo, it says in chapter 1 of the book of Jomjael, 'Lo, children, I grant unto thine overseer the sword. By its blade he shall protect thee. By its might he shall defend thee. Permit not the sword to rust. Permit not another to break the sword for it is a weapon of defense only. It is blunted when struck heedlessly against the sword of another brother at arms. Such is abomination and violation of mine will. Strengthen the blade within thine borders and thou shalt know nothing but peace. Strike forth in heedless wrath and not but tragedy shalt thou know.'" he roared at the crowd on the day of Ithuania's launched attack.

*meanwhile*

Ramlel, head of the military of the Holy Empire of Kokablel sat before his desk, a worried frown creasing his aged features. Zeal set in those eyes, but more pragmatism and tactics was there than anything else, the heart of shrewd intellect.

"Sir? Your command?"

"They go without marker or identification, mere mercenaries. Select only those not ethnically Kokablelian. Services are accorded them in private to dedicate them to what may be a final mission. Ensure the missives to Galdania are fully coded and secret. We will send the shipment of arms tommorrow at dawn. Hopefully they will be received well."

"Yes sir. All hail the Holy Light, may it shine forever."

"All hail. You are dismissed," Ramlel said almost dismissively. His mind was on other matters. If Galdania fell, it would not be good for Kokablel. Even if no ties were ever found to their nation, it was known how strongly they opposed a nation almost 50 times their size. Their economy was anathema to Ithuania. Eventually the two would but heads. Galdania must stand, lest others fall to the tyrants. At least their military had supplies to spare Gadanian troops.

(shipments depart tommorrow RT on swift boats. All troops are equipped for suicide on capture. No markings are left to tie to Kokablel. They appear to be arms merchants from the North Pacific. The afforementioned missives are proceeding via highly coded and encrypted missives to the ambassador of Kokablel in Galdania and a small network of informats and then on to Galdanian military connections.)

General Bobert Eastlessland ran up to Grand Master Howard Maarten, shouting. "Sir, MARA has just shown an ICBM launched from Galdania headed our way!"
"Is BMDS locked on to it?"
"It can't--it's a type we've never seen before! I'm afraid we'll have to use personal intervention!"
"Aww, crap...is there any other option?"
"No, sir, I'm afraid not."
Maarten sighed for a second, then looked up. "Alright, give the order...and get me the poor soul's family on the telephone. What time should I expect the fireworks?"
"Ahh, approximately two hours and eight minutes, sir. By then the missile will have reentered the atmosphere and descended to an altitude reachable by our jets. The collision will occur at approximately forty thousand feet up and two hundred fifty miles off our southern coast."
"Alright...Cindy, what's the press corps doing right now? Get 'em in the room--people have got to know about this."

In the midst of the confusion, a small convoy of ships travelled towards Galdanian waters under the cover of night. Its men bore no markings that identified them as what they were, save for a small distinctive scar on the back of their hands reminiscent of a burn mark. The marks weren't uniform, but they were unusual. Perhaps they had all been of some strange cult beforehand. It was difficult to say.

Each of the small speedcrafts carried a compliment of five men and was weighted down with arms and ammunition. The nation supplying them was not rich, though it glutted its military budget to an inordinate degree. All of the equipment was designed for guerilla warfare and man-to-man fighting. Hosts of mortars, assault rifles, pistols, sniper rifles, grenade launchers and claymore land mines were the mainstay of the supply.

The extent of the supply was probably a drop in the bucket for a nation of Galdania's size, but for a nation so small as Kokablel, it would be clear to them that a real sacrifice was being made. Their troops were on high alert but ammunition would have to be made at a vastly increased rate to repair the losses in this munitions maneuver.

The boats travelled under different flags and did not travel in groups larger than twos. They had different set times for arrival and a special coded signal to submit to Galdanian forces if sighted. It was hoped that most would arrive.

As for those who might be captured, their fate was ordained. Anyone who had been so selected to Kokablel's secret services and had their barcodes removed by burning was equipped with a cyanide capsule and no markings of their real lives. At any hint of capture, four of the five would offer return fire merely to delay the inevitable, when the captain would light the magazine and all would suicide by gas to ensure their nation was not identified.

All in all, 100 men would serve on the mission, a sizeable one that was attempting to rely on holes in the still forming blockades of Ithuania to the far southeastern and southwestern coasts of Galdania.

(In reality, Kokablel has 20 million people at the time of this war. The US of today has an arguably glutted military at .5% of its population, around 1.4 million. I don't care what the 'god-modding' thread says. 5% is HUGE in terms of a nation. Kokablel has around 1.5%, at 300,000 total military force. It's military is ridiculously overstressed and is the center of much of its industrial complex at this time.

However, I don't know just how much this small task force could really be sending. The idea is that somewhere around 10% of its current total ammunition and human-sized arms is set aside to slowly transfer through a complex series of exchanges. Losses are expected, hence the suicide orders. If you need to modify the number of men involved from 100 hand-picked men, do so at your own mental convenience. I don't actually do covert ops in real life so I don't actually know how many would be needed.)

In a well-lit room in the Ithuanian capital of Garzog, Grand Master Howard Maarten receives a phone call.

"We are ready to begin the landing on your order, sir."

"Hold on." Looking up to the phone, he tells his secretary, "Bring the Galdanian ambassadors in here. Let them see firsthand what their unprovoked aggression has wrought on their government."

"Yes, sir," his secretary Stephanie Lowndes responds. Half an hour later, the ambassadors are in the room. Grand Master Maarten picks up the telephone and gets the commander of the First Armored Division on the line. "Begin the attack."

Thousands of miles away, hordes of support units roll off the transports. The artillery batteries immediately begin setting up to provide cover fire, while the engineers begin clearing obstacles. Almost immediately, though, the big transports carrying the armor itself come under fire from Galdanian submarines. After two ships are lost the commander realizes the situation and pulls back. The artillery is turned towards the sea and begins firing into the sea, hoping to force the submariners to draw in together while the armor transports are able to carve out a path around the danger.

OOC: Ithuania, I have allies, and they have rallied to the cause.

IC: Galdanian subs continued their assault on the enemy ships. The Galdanian Admiral aboard one of the subs ordered Ithuania's ships to surrender or be destroyed.

Armoured tanks thrust themselves upon the enemy, with superior numbers and superior force.

Mines along the beach exploded around the landing troops, while missile bases in Genya and South Kevon prepared to fire, if Ithuania did not withdraw. A communique was sent to Ithuania, telling them to withdraw or be destroyed.
11-02-2004, 00:48
Despite their best efforts, a healthy percentage of the long-term arms-shipments were lost. Communications could not be 100% in such secrecy. The Ithuanians also patrolled the seas further out from Galdanian waters. The ruined hulks of destroyed ships were proof of Ithuanian ruthless efficiency, though the lack of captured 'soldiers of fortune' were equal proof of Kokablelian fanaticism.

What ships remained, however, landed on the southern shores of Galdanian quietly in the same cover of night that they had departed from. Their munitions and arms were off-loaded, and the 'mercenaries' requested asylum or safe passage until after the war's conclusion, having orders not to directly intervene in conflict, lest they be captured.

(Sorry Ithuania. I had messaged you in the hopes for some suggestions here on potential battles between your patrols and my gun runners, but I never heard back so I assumed a percentage of losses but no captures. Good cyanide teeth are helpful that way.)
