Chambalonia capital protests turn deadly

CHAMBALONIA (Chambalonia Republic Press) -

"We can only take so much!" said Environmental Protection Corps Leader Robert Dhangi, "How much longer can we let the corporate fat cats destroy our beautiful land?"

The Nukes4U Corporation and the leaders of Chambalonia have started negotiations for uranium mining in the south western rainforests. Officials released a statement after hearing word of protests building outside the capital. “We know this is a serious issue” said Minister Ernest Hodgkins, “Our decision will be based on the best interests of the people. We are only looking into options to make our beautiful land better.”

But that answer didn’t seem to be good enough for the EPC. Mass protests had already broken into chaotic riots on the capitals east side, and Chambalonia police were having a hard time stopping them. “Our forces were doing their jobs to the best of their abilities” said Chambalonia police chief Eric Graves, “They were just too much to handle with such a small force.”

In response, Chambalonia officials activated 1,000 military troops to aid the police in deterring the riots. “We wanted to end this as peacefully and civilized as possible” said Lt. Matthew Ashbury, “This loss of life is unacceptable.”

That statement came after an earlier incident when two rioters crashed a humvee into military barricades throwing Molotov cocktails and homemade grenades. The shrapnel filled blast killed 10 troops and a civilian news reporter. The rioters were shot and killed trying to escape the vehicle. Afterwards, EPC denied having planned the assault and have condemned those involved. “We are a peaceful organization and only fight with beliefs and never weapons.” said EPC Leader Dhangi. “Monsters are never seen until it’s too late. Our condolences go out to those who have lost loved ones.”

**** BREAKING DEVELOPMENTS ****

Chambalonian officials and the Environment Protection Corps have reached an agreement to end the protests due to the recent deaths in the severe rioting. "Finally we can do our jobs." says Minister Hodgkins, "Now we can focus 100% on the issues at hand and not worry about our own safety." EPC have begun to leave the capital peacefully and without incident. However in the wake of this development, Rioters independant to the EPC remaining in the capital have been detained and are undergoing questioning. "Those in breach of the agreement will face severe charges." say Police officials. Forces guarding the capital have been downgraded to stand down status.
