The following are new project proposals from the country’s researchers, some hoping to promote the agriculture and industry of the United Communist States of Zvarinograd with biological advances.
Project ID: 012573
Azolla is an aquatic fern that has an obligate mutualistic relationship with a nitrogen-fixing cyanobacterium called Anabaena azollae. In this symbiotic relationship, Azolla provides protection to and obtain usable nitrogen from the cyanobacterium. Used as green fertilizer to provide crops a supplement source of nitrogen, Azolla has been shown to increase yield in rice fields by some thirty-five (35) percent.
Dr. Sergei Valkov has decided to take Azolla one step further, by genetically modifying economic plants with the recently isolated gene that allows the cyanobacterium Anabaena azollae to have a symbiotic relationship with Azolla. In turn, the nitrogen is directly used by the economic plant, increasing the efficiency of the absorption of nitrogen and ultimately increasing yield even further than the green fertilizer.
The Anabaena azollae strain has been shown to be harmless to human beings as it dies off when it is apart from its host plant, therefore there is no threat of disease from the bacterium when it is time to consume the genetically enhanced crop.

This proposal was sent by Dr. Heart Anouska. Cannabis Satiya or “Hemp”, which is also the chief ingredient in the production of hashish and marijuana, can be converted into a form of biological diesel by mixing it with caustic lye dissolved in methanol. The resulting fuel releases no sulfur by-products, produces more nitrogen oxide and has eighty (80) percent less emissions than gasoline or regular diesel, an ecologically safe and reusable fuel alternative.
Project ID: 012575
Dr. Vladimir Chekhov has proposed an improved high explosive for military use. H-6, an aluminum in a 1:1.25 TNT RDX (the explosive is not FAE/TB, it retains the same brisance or ‘shattering’ effect as most high explosives), can be improved. He has spent countless hours computing possible ratios for maximizing the deadly potential of the three main ingredients of the explosive and has proposed a .75:1:2.25 ratio of aluminum, TNT and RDX. The resulting explosive is considerably more devastating than the last, and is codenamed C-5 (composition-5).
