The President of the Empire of Benicius announced today a new military initiative that will result in the greatest amount of expenditure from the Federal Treasury in 30 years.
In a speech given outside the soon-to-be-completed Benician Defence HQ, the President stated that he would approve an additional $400 billion to defence over the next 5 years which would help to meet new army, navy and airforce demands.
It was previously thought that 8 aircraft carriers would meet Benicius's defence needs, however the President now feels the nation needs at least 16 carrier battle groups to service territorial and global interests.
In addition to the $288.4 billion carrier battle group initiative, the Benician Navy has been granted a further $35 billion for an extra 10 Tiberian Class Destroyers, 5 Claudian Class Cruisers and 10 Julius Class Frigates.
The Benician airforce has had approved an order for 200 new Joint Strike Fighters at a total cost of $24 billion and 100 Icarus F-25's at a cost of $8.5 billion.
The Benician Army is to be expanded to a full time compliment of 400,000 full time troops and there has been a call for the formation of a 100,000 strong Reservist Force. Special Forces details of course cannot be revealed due to National Security issues.
An additional 80 Antony IV tanks are to be purchased for $500 million and 70 more troop transporting helicopters at a cost of $1 billion.
The remaining $42.6 billion has been allocated to undisclosed military initiatives.
