Final Journey of the Orca (Open RP)

New Empire

[Early September, Over Desthein, UCSNE]
[The Markov War]
The ICBM, Markovian Apocalypse Class, silently continued on it's course. It was a Markovian single warhead missile, but very powerful, 25 megatons. It's sleek shape began to turn, others like it bursting as the NEODEN SDI network picked them out of the sky. It found it's target, and ignited it's rockets for one last push, down through the atmosphere, down onto Desthein.
-
Lieutenant Alex Van Horst gunned the engine on his car, racing towards the submarine base at the Cape. His SUV screamed over the flat plain, the roads too clogged for any kind of progress. He turned towards the road leading to the Submarine base, back on pavement as two armed guards ordered him to stop.
"Lieutenant Van Horst, aboard the submarine Orca." he said, holding out his ID, and then his hand as the guard did a fingerprint check.
"You're clear. Good luck out there, kill some Markie's for the rest of us."
"Sure thing."
He drove the car to the parking lot, and made his way to the submarine where supplies were frantically being loaded. The captain, Davis Haster, grinned as the Lieutenant approached.
"Good to see you, Lt. C'mon, get in the boat with the rest, we're moving for a strike on the Markie fleet in-"
A flash, too far to blind, but bright enough to tell those what happened, illuminated the darkening afternoon sky.
Shit... About 30 miles out... That's Desthein. Oh shit. The kids... Jane... Shit!
The overpressure came as a wind, blowing debris into the air, and rocking the men and supply containers, and came back again. The captain came to his feet, looking more angry than hurt.
"On your feet! Let's go and give them some of the same!"
As the mushroom cloud blossomed, a mental cancer formed in Van Horst's mind, one that would start slow, but consume him.
--
[Present Day]
The submarine was operating under complete communications silence, not even linking to the satellites, using it's LIDAR/LADAR and highly advanced INS to make it's way around international waters. Captain Van Horst looked proudly over the crew of his boat, the Orca. The sub was top notch, rivaling even the new Gewehrston attack subs in technology. She was a veteran of the Markov war, and had a billboard displaying her kills against the Markovian Navy to show it. But, if Van Horst had anything to say about it, they would not be the last. He stared at the picture he had of his wife and kids, all dead from the Markovian nuke blast at Desthein. All gone. He came over the intercom.
"Ladies and Gentlemen of the Orca. It is my duty to inform you our mission has changed. According to a commburst transmission relayed just now, the plot by Markov to assasinate the President via the mafia has escalated into something much worse. They have just bombed Berliston."
The silence fell over the ship.
"As you know, our load of plasma yield and fission weapons has made us the choice for retaliatory strikes on Markov. We are now under operating Plan 6, which requires us to move under total silence from all outside communications unless contacted with the proper code. Deiter, set course for Primary Target under OPLAN6A, all else, consider this a state of war with the Republic of Markov."
It was a lie, but it was the only way he could truly get the UCSNE to punish Markov for it's crimes, and eliminate their threat once and for all. But they were smack dab in international waters, with patrols and warships all over it. He hoped they would not be dragged into the conflict, but Van Horst was determined to complete this journey, even if it dragged the whole world into war.
OOC-Those who can guess the two books/movies I'm basing this off of, go ahead. Feel free to join in, but keep in mind you will not know anything of the statement or mission of the Orca until I tell you. Also, the Orca is a very advanced sub, you are going to have a hell of a time locating it. It has a crush depth of 5000 meters, MHD, anti-acoustic systems, the whole thing. But it'll be fun, the systems are just to give the poor little sub a chance.

"Cap'n, we gotta contact on acoustics, I'm reading one surface vessel dead ahead, 10 clicks."
The sensors officer looked at the readout, and ran it through a computer.
"Big enough to be military, sir."
Van Horst stood, and turned.
"Bring her up to periscope depth."
"Ah, sir, are you sure that's wise?"
"If it was a problem, they would have noticed us by now. Just quick enough for a snapshot."
"Aye aye."
The periscope broke water and zoomed in, taking a shot of the vessel in the stormy seas, and then descended again. Van Horst looked at the picture, fuzzy and hard to make out, but clearly a ship that had a military profile.
"On your toes men, full battle awareness, silent mode."
OOC-Someone, RP as the damn ship crew from your nation. Seriously.

Slowly but surely the NRSS New Bismarck and the NRSS New Tirpitz sailed across the rough seas. Their Hydrogen Reactors venting the harmless gass via eight Titanium Fan Turbines. It wasn't until a ping from the Radar officer's station that everything was going swell.

"Captain," started the young Lieutenant, "Microwave pulses picking up something just beneath the surface!"

Captain Gelgra turned his head to the Officer, he himself standing on the bridge, "Surface? Hmm, moniter it, and inform the Tirpitz of what we have picked up."
New Empire
26-01-2004, 00:42
"What is it?"
Van Horst looked at the photo, then at the sensors officer.
"More like they... There's two... Really big. Heavy cruisers or pocket battleships. Wait, we're being pulsed. Microwaves."
"Begin slow descent to 500 meters, turn off EMS and activate electromagnetic scramblers to distort their pulses. Weapons, what's the status on forward Eight tubes?"
"Tubes loaded with HE SEASLAM, sir."
"Good. Turret, ready anti torpedo and charge systems."
"Aye aye, 20 rounds supercavitating on call, sir."
The weight of worlds fell upon the crew. Markov was never reported to have battleships, so who were they, out there?
Five Civilized Nations
26-01-2004, 00:59
Tailing the two Battleships was the CNESS-483 Hai Long, the newest SSN built by the Five Civilized Nations. With news that the two battleships had left port, the Hai Long was ordered to follow. Commanded by the veteran of twelve years of command, Commander Isaac Gemini, the Hai Long was fast, quiet, and extremely deadly...

"Captain, I'm picking up something on my pulse-sonar. Bearing 0420, possible submerged contact."

"Okay, label it as Sierra XXI and identify it."

"Captain, preliminary analysis identifies it as the Orca utilized by the Navy of the New Empire..."

"What the hell is it doing here!?! Didn't intel tell us that the Orca was back in port!?!"

"Sir, I think the Orca just armed and loaded its torpedo tubes..."

"What!?! Damn't... Torpedo Room, arm the torpedoes in the tubes, but do not open the outer doors. Repeat, arm the torpedoes, but do not open the doors..."

Turning to the rest of the crew, Commander Gemini stared at his XO.

"Mr. First, I want you to get me a complete design specification of the Orca."
26-01-2004, 01:00
"Sir, the Microwave has been scrambled, possibly ECM signals." Nodding to the Lieutenant, the Captain paced the small bridge, trying to figure out why on their First Mission there was an unknown contact. If they were being followed, it would mean only that someone had been interested in USSNR productions.

"That can't be," he thought aloud, "The USSNR tells everyone its projects..."

After a moment or two of silence on the bridge the Commander looked to his Comrade Brethren, the Captain, "Sir, might I suggest we slow down to show we mean no threat? This is, afterall, unknown territory were passing through."

The Captain Nodded, "Yes, very good, I had left that fact out. Slow the ship down to 10 knots, inform the Tirpitz to follow our lead."

Helm acted quickly as the Captain looked to the Commander, then back out through the Bridge window, which was onme of many in a straight line across the front. They had the capability to attack a Sub, just not cause severe damage. Yet, mysteriously, he felt a good feeling that nothing bad would come out of this, then...

"Also tell Tirpitz not to arm anything, they might be able to detect that."

With an Aye-Aye and Yes-Sir aftwards, everything went quiet as they waited...

The NRSS New Bismarck had already begun a slow turn when the NRSS New Tirpitz had finally authenticated the Microwave Pulse signal of yet another Unidentified Submerged Object following them. The Captain of the New Bismarck had ordered a full broadsided ready, if any, and knew that way any torpedoes would be blocked by the New Bismarck's Experimental Lightweight Titanium hull plaiting.

Yet, even as the Captain had readied for battle, the possibility for peace still lie open....

"We are at 500 meters, sir."
"Begin movement to 2 degrees off the port bow, 10 knots. Let's see if we can slip past these guys."
The water silently rushed through the openings of the MHD before being propelled out back, moving it silently and slowly. If the enemy had high grade acoustics and water flow monitoring, they might be able to detect a miniscule change, but hopefully not enough to alert them.

"We've lost them sir," the Lieutenant reported, "I believe they just left, or something."

"Well, the Tirpitz did say it was a guess," The Captain looked out the bridge at the waters, nothing to be seen but ocean, "Lets continue with our Shakedown Cruise. We gotta tell Socialist Command what all these two battleships can do with modernized tech on their old designs."

Everyone went back to work, only the Captain and Commander stood side by side, wondering, the silence lengthened until the Commander Spoke.

"The Sea Fox is nearby, sir. It has more advanced technology then our two ships combined, so it could track them better."

The Captain nodded, then watched the New Bismarck's direction turn back to its norm, heading along its assigned course, back to Nodea Rudav in some time.

A short distance behind the two battleships, the LRRNS Horatio Hornblower, a Victoria II class submarine, follows the two ships on the surface, with national colors prominently displayed. The sub's passive sonar was picking up strange readings.

"Sir, I'm picking up strange sounds about seven degrees off the port bow. Sounds like water being moved. It seems to deep to be a current. Might be a sub, but its a long shot at best."
"If it is a sub, we probably shouldn't try to provoke it. Helm, take us down. We're gonna try and follow the contact. Might be of some use for environmental research."
"Aye, sir!"
"Take us to 50 meters, and then follow the contact at 5 knots. Silent running."
"Aye, sir!"

The bridge of the conning tower empties out, and the national colors are retracted. The ship descends below the waves.

NRSS Sea Fox, Foxtrot-II Class Experimental Submarine

Captain Valro sat in the small captains chair, the control room much like that of a Russian Foxtrot, expect all the instruments and everything that would usually stick out was hidden behind a smooth layer of Lightweight Titanium, its outer hull being comprised of Ionic Titanium so it could dive below 2000 feet.
Looking at the Helmsmen infront of him, two Senior Lieutenants who drove the Sea Fox much like that of any sub, he started to order something but was cut off.

"Captain," started his Sonar Officer, Lieutenant Congart, "We've got Microwave signals of metallic hulls in the vacinity, can't pinpoint'em but we got'em."

Captain Valro nodded, "Good, Lieutenant, keep a watch on them."'

Thinking for a moment, he looked over to his XO, "Commander, I believe the New Bismarck stated they had two mysterious contacts, both it and the New Tirpitz?"

Commander Talin nodded, "Yes sir, that's atleast what we picked up before we dived. I believe it was a light contact on their Microwave Pulses, but they stated that since we had the newer tech then them, we should investigate," he stopped for a moment, "Thats right, isn't it, Joey?" The Watchman nodded, then continued with his business.

"Alright, good, arm forward tubes, all four of'em. We might need it."

"Aye sir," said the XO, going about to resay what the Captain's orders were to the Torpedo Room.

"Sir, we hear tubes flooding! What now?"
Van Horst glared at the screen showing the data.
"We are at a state of war. Open fire."
"Aye aye, 2 SEASLAM ready and launching, LIDAR and Microwave guidance set."
The two weapons leapt from their tubes, firing their engines as the bubbles of vapor formed around them from the heated water, and screamed to Mach 1, using LIDAR to find the Foxtrot along with it's electormagnetic signautre. It was based upon the Soviet Shkval supercavitating torpedo, but was faster, smarter, and could pack a deadlier punch. The front of the torpedoes were shaped like the penentrators on tank SABOT rounds, in tests they had punched through ship and sub alike with deadly results.

"Jesus," exclaimed the Sonar Officer, "They've shot a damn torpedo! Were under attack!"

With that, the Captain stood, "Use that experimental Ionic Shielding, it'll give the armor a boost from the shockwave," he turned to weapons, "Open doors and fire all Mk89 Torpedoes!"

With an "Aye-Aye" from the Lieutenant and Junior Lieutenant at the stations, both the outside hull plating covered all signatures emitting from the Sea Fox and gave a boost of shielding to the armor, while the four torpedo tubes opened and fired before the Ionic Shielding took effect.

"That shielding may not be strong enough, but it'll cover our signatures...."

"What!?! Label it as Sierra XXII. Shit... Flood our tubes..."

"Sir, we have two torpedoes in the water sent by the Sierra XXI, bearing 0650 heading towards Sierra XXII."

"F*ck... Is the commander of the Orca crazy!?! Fire two Raiden Torpedoes at those two torpedoes... We can't allow this war to occur..."

"Yes sir..."

Four seconds later, the Raiden Torpedoes were launched, exploding from their tubes and accelerated to over 500 knots...

"Open communications with all ships in the area..."

"Yes sir..."

After opening the channel, Commander Gemini began to speak.

This is Commander Isaac Gemini, captain of the CNESS-489 Hai Long of the Five Civilized Nations Earth Fleet. We politely request all naval vessels cease fire immediately. Not complying with this request will result in the a war of massive proportions. The whole planet will go up in smoke... Non-compliance with this request will result in a full-scale attack by my ship... Over and out...

The Captain sighed, relieved that no one would recieve either end of the solvo's, privatly thanking the Captain whom fired the salvo of torpedoes.

"XO, cut the Ionic Shielding Off, it'll waste too much of the Hydrogen Fuel Cells, and we sure as hell don't need that."

"Aye sir," the XO replied, "On it."

"Now," Captain Valro said to himself, "Let's why were being attacked in the first place...."

The two SEASLAM switched off of EMS with the jamming, going into LIDAR, until a Raiden slammed into one. Shrapnel lanced out, fortunately for the torpedo, it harmlessly flew towards the Orca.
As the transmission began, he shut it off. For him and his crew, they were already at war.

OOC: Heh, anywho.... :)

The NRSS Sea Fox desended to 800 feet in silent running, its Experimental Technology, HIGHLY Experimental for a nation such a Nodea Rudav for its Modern ways, was working quite well. It was time that the Sea Fox would lie in silence for some time, as it kept track of what was going on, only attacking if it were detected.

OOC-NR, there's still an EMS/LIDAR guided torpedo headed at mach 1 towards your sub... The raidens only killed off one. Also, unless your Ionic shielding interrupts light, the torpedoes still can use LIDAR guidance.
IC-
"Incoming! Mk89s!"
"Open fire, load the 40mm coaxial on the turret!"
"Yessir!"
In the automated ball turret, the 40mm gun activated. It loaded shells into itself, the computer set a time fuze, and it spit out it's supercavitating round. The first round burst a torpedo, the second took out another. The third damaged two, one veering off into the depths, and the other prematurely detonating under the port bow, scarring the submarine. A small leak began in the first layer of armor.
"Sir, minor damage, sector four."
"Let it be. If it gets problematic, flood the sector with sealant."

Captain Valro plopped back in his small chair, refusing to accept his fate, yet he knew they could do nothing. It was all up to the new type of shielding now, if it worked as well, and mostly up to the think, Lightweight Titanium used as hull. He sighed, in ten seconds it would impact....ten....

"Commander Talin...."

....nine

"Yes Sir?"

....eight

He sighed, "Whats our chances?"

....seven

Talin looked to the helm, then back, "Roughly 1000 to 1, sir....I'm sorry.."

....six

Captain Valro Laughed unsecurly, "Nothing to be sorry about, it was a short life for the ship, one cut short for us."

....five

Talin nodded, "Indeed, Captain, yet I believe the most damage to the surrounding environment would be caused by the Hydrogen reactor....."

....four

The Captains eyes widened, "Commander Talin, the reactor, what if the Microwave pulse...."

....three

"....too late...damn..."

....two

Captain Talin sat back with pride, "For the people, this is always for the continued protection of the People."

....one

Everyone in the control room cheered as they to sat in their positions with pride, "For The People!"

....zero

"May God have mercy on us, for we now come home...."

With a spectacular flash followed by what looked to be an underwater nuclear explosion, any vehicle or ship would of suddenly been sucked in towards where the explosion occured then literally lifted almost to the surface as a huge cloud of water emrged from the depts.

The NRSS Sea Fox seemed gone, perhaps it would be saved, perhaps not. The explosion would say otherwise, however. Yet, if one thing was clear, perhaps even the Ionic Shielding could do some good by keeping the good crew alive, somehow, someway.

"Ah, shit... This has degenerated to a war... God damn't..."

Turning on the shipboard communications systems, Commander Gemini began to speak.

This is your Captain, Commander Isaac Gemini speaking... We have just come into a war zone. As I am speaking warships of the New Empire and Nordea Rudav have begun to attack either other. Already at least one submarine has been sunk. As a sworn member of the Navy of the Five Civilized Nations, it is our duty to meditate and resolve this conflict... Over and out...

"Okay boys, action stations..."

Acknowledging the order, the XO pushed a red button causing the lights to turn red. Immediately the sailors aboard the submarine went to their stations.

"Arm the torpedoes and flood the tubes..."

"Aye, sir."

Meanwhile, the sailors in the operations center turned on the submarine's variable-acoustics absorption devices allowing the Hai Long became virtually invisible to any sonar...

"Jesus... Thing went off like a nuke. Must of been a hydrogen reactor. Are you sure that was not a nuclear torpedo loaded?"
Van Horst looked at the LIDAR image of the explosion, and grimaced. He snapped off a quick salute to the crew, submariners in New Empire always respected their fellows no matter what side they were on.
"Commence descent to 2000 meters below sea level. Full silence mode, 10 knots, EMS distortion, activate anti-sound layering."
As the sub descended, chemicals came from nozzles in the hull, forming a stickly layer around the sub. A low current was run through them, turning them into a thick gel that absorbed some of the vibrations and soundwaves from the already quiet sub. Van Horst looked around at his crew, performing their duty unaware of the situation.
How long until they realize we're gone, and send the fleet, notify the Markovians? Hopefully not long enough.

OOC-Four tons? How big is this torpedo? The largest American torpedo, a Mk 48, carries 650 lbs of explosives. There are no torpedoes that can carry that much, your raiden would have to be bigger than a cruise missile, more like a ICBM, to carry four tons of explosives. Plus, I doubt it would have 5 mile blast radius, thats nuclear grade.

Near the explosion center of the NRSS Sea Fox Foxtrot-II Experimental Submarine

"Thats her alright," said Captain Gerat, "Looks like a direct hit....she's gone."

The control room crew was silent, each of them had their heads bowed in some type of silent memorial of the brave crew. The last transmission was enough to prove that any crew in the USSNR fleet was willing to give it all for the saftey of their families, friends, and the People.

"Alright, Captain," Thomas said, sighing, "Let's find out who did this, I ain't the Chief Socialist President for nothing."

With a nod, Captain Gerat started ordering as did his XO. Thomas, the Chief Socialist President of the USSNR, had heard of the destruction of the NRSS Sea Fox just hours before, and wanted to personally see if his fellow brethren were alright. He had borded the docked Oscar II Class NRSS Socialist Protector as a ride, which he, of course, asked to use. Since it was the Chief Socialist President and not some high ranked official disembarking, the only two Akula II Classes of the USSNR Naval fleet followed as escorts.
Thomas would of taken the only Typoon class, the NRSS Behemoth, for a ride, but she was docked in the sub-pen for refits. So, intern, he went along with the closest docked sub, this one, the NRSS Socialist Protector. The Captain was almost shocked to even see him, let alone believe that the Chief Socialist President would take these risks. However, it wasn't the risks that Thomas had worried about, it was the crew of the now-dead NRSS Sea Fox that got him out of the Capital.
Yet, as it seemed, there was only a hulk left of what Thomas had come to see. They were gone, but perhaps, in all hope, the salvage team would find something. If they didn't, they would leave everything as-is, expect for the critical and Experimental components. The hulk, of course, would be left as a lasting memorial to that brave crew.

OOC-Yeah, 5 mi is a bit extreme, you would have wiped out the SeaFox too. Anyway, it's standard procedure to ripple fire in NE, so the torpedoes don't collide, lock on to eachother, cross lines, get thrown by the same decoy. But whatever.

[Over the Battle Area, Orbit]
The satellite logged the nuclear explosion, sending a tightburst microwave comm signal to the Naval/Air Base at Cortina, where it transmitted itself onto the computer network in the bunkers below the base.
"Sir... Nuclear explosion, moderate depth in the ocean. Near... The last location of the Orca... sir."
Admiral Derlinn muttered, looking at the screen.
"Analyze it for patterns. It wouldn't have been the Orca Pebblebeds don't detonate like that."
"On it... Sir, it was at the depth of a submarine... The satellite was picking up some strange signals too... They think it might have been from a hydrogen bomb, or reactor of some sort."
"Run another pattern, microwave scan."
"Two Battleships in the area, possible contacts, but we have one very fuzzy one, similar to that of an SSN-53 series ship with active EMS distortion."
"Then he's still out there. And from his last known location to there..."
He swore, slamming his fist on the desk.
"He's enacted one of the Nuclear OPLANs that allow mission orders independent from Presidential confirmation. Which means they are operating under silence. List all targets of the OPLAN."
"Well... We have targets in Markov listed under OPLAN for that sub."
"Van Horst going to Markov, eh? Run a background check on him. Get to the bottom of this crap. Oh, and notify the Markies."

[Encrypt Comm to Markovian Authority]
We need to be quick, as the situation degrades as time passes. One of our ships, the SSN-53 Orca, is currently loaded with at least two nuclear weapons and is on it's way to an unknown area in your nation. This is not going to be easy, the SSN-53 is the stealthiest sub in our arsenal. It uses MHD "Caterpillar" to allow it to travel silently, has EMS distortion, Sound absorbent layering, and a 5000 meter crush depth. As of now, she has engaged and destroyed a military vessel, intel says an advanced Nodea Rudavian sub. We will make every attempt to silence this threat, but there is no guaruntee the Orca will not make it to within firing range of your nation.

The F/A-117 was much more deadly than the American craft of similar designation. Both were attack aircraft, and stealthy, but there the similarities ended. The sleek gray aerospacecraft, 3 of them, rose into the night sky, their SCRAMjet engines roaring as they moved towards the edge of the atmosphere, at mach 5, hypersonics. The aircraft were on the other side of the nation, and each armed as a last ditch with 2 nuclear depth bombs, 80 Kiloton yield. They awaited their orders as they made their way to the last sighted area of the Orca.
--
The Orca's sensors barely picked up the Hai Long as it descended to 2750 meters, still silent as ever. It's 20/40mm turret was programmed to try and hit torpedoes while they were near the ship, it was too risky to let the Raiden near the Orca. 4 tubes were loaded with standard torpedo, but not flooded, as was the case for two bearing a Hornet pattern of Black and Yellow stripe, 5 kiloton nuclear torpedoes, should the situation require them. Van Horst was reluctant to use them, though, he wanted them to be used on the Markovian fleet in New Geneva. The whole sub sat silent and tense as they continued, still 4 miles out from the nearest contact.

The Hai Long crawled slowly thorugh the sea, moving at steerage, as it descended. Bottoming out at 2780 meters, the Hai Long accelerated to five knots and began to scan the sea around it...

The sensitive long-range sensors of the Hai Long barely picked up the Orca as it crawled heading somewhere...

"Damn't the captain of that Orca is crazy... Are all the torpedoes armed?"

"Yes, sir... Eight Hammerhead Torpedoes in the standard tubes and two Raidens in the booster tubes..."

"Excellent... Can't wait to give that Orca a piece of my mind..."

Sitting down, Commander Gemini was accosted by his XO, Lieutenant Commander Felix Omar.

"Sir, I just went over the stolen design specifications of the Orca... It seems that they have a 20/40mm anti-torpedo gun turret..."

"What!?! Why don't we have such a thing?"

"Sir, Admiralty thought that the Raidens would be enough. Plus the Hai Long IIs have six booster tubes and capacity for thirty Raidens... Nothing can stop that..."

"Well your right..." standing up, Commander Gemini said simply, "XO, you have the conn..."

"Aye, sir..."

The XO took his position.

"XO has the conn..."

Aboard the LRR sub, the nuclear explosion causes havoc.

"Sir! Tubes flooding! Looks like that UW current is a sub! Wait.....explosion!"

The explosion breaks valves and damages the outer hull of the sub.

"Take us up! Emergency blow!"

The damaged sub rockets to the surface, with obvious damage to the hull.

"Mayday, mayday this is the LRRNS Horatio Hornblower. We were caught in a probable underwater nuclear explosion, and are taking on water!"

At the LRR port of Gdansk, a pair of Be-200s take off, headed towards the location of the Hornblower.

Van Horst still brooded over the huge missiles that had taken out one of the SEASLAM.
"Well, we're looking at a huge missile, sir. Big blast radius, but not nuclear."
"Load the retaliation program."
"Sir?"
The retaliation program was designed as a way to give the crews a way to react against fast moving torpedoes, it would automatically take control of the 20/40mm turret and fire at the incoming, and launch a torpedo at the sub.

"Sir, our satellite surveillance network has reported a development that may interest you: a sub skirmish."

The Emperor looked up from his computer screen and asked, "Why a fight between two subs might interest me? Is any of them ours? Have we won?"

"Actually, sir, the point of interest lies in the fact that this... combat has taken place around two ships marked as of special interest to you: the New Bismarck and the New Tirpitz."

"Oh, yes. I remember. Are the ships involved in some way?"

"Well it seems that several subs from different nations were either detached to observe them or just passing by. The ships detected one or more of them, put themselves on alert, and all hell broke loose. At least one sub has been destroyed, and another, this one confirmed as being from LRR, heavily damaged."

"All right, send the closest unit to observe and report."

"Actually, even though the closest unit we have is only ten minutes away, I suggest sending the second closest, one of our hover carriers, that happens to be two hours away at max speed."

"Huh? Why is that? What's wrong with the other ship?"

"It's the Vasa II, sir, totally unfit for the assignement. I insist on sending the carrier Albatross instead."

"Vasa II? I don't recall that ship," And with that remark, the Emperor went to his terminal and asked for the ship's data, "A WOODDEN SHIP? WHAT THE HELL IS THAT DOING IN MY FLEET? WE HAVE SPACE SHIPS AND STILL HAVE THAT KIND OF CRAP?"

"Sir, actually, we have several. This one in particular is a very similar replica of a ship that sunk on her maiden voyage, even before leaving the port."

"She WHAT? AND YOU HAVE MADE A REPLICA OF THAT?"

"As I said, it is a similar replica, not an exact one. The reason it sunk is that it had too many sails for her size and hull. This one was modified with a 19-century style keel, and it is even faster than the legendary clippers. We use her as a schooling ship, to train officers. It even has AS detection capability, but as not having offensive systems, not even the guns that should be in there, makes her totally unfit for the mission."

"OF COURSE IT IS! IT IS A SHIP MADE OF... wood."

"Yes, sir, wood, and with no guns. I'll dispatch the Albatross."

"Dispatch them both."

"Sir?"

"You heard me. This... contraption is undetectable by electronic means, and if some naval officer has optical surveillance, he or she won't believe that such and ancient ship is not a figment of their imagination. It is perfect! Tell them to turn off any electronic device that can be detected and send them there. At the very least, it will be on a humanitarian mission, to try to rescue the survivors, and with any luck, they will gather valuable intelligence about the involved designs and real-life combat tactics. I think those officers in trainig will appreciate that. At least the good ones."

"I'll inform Fleet Admiral Nautas at once, sir."

"Huh? Why? He should be on vacation, if I recall."

"He is, sir. He chose to spend his leave on the Vasa II."

"My oh my. I can't believe my luck... Proceed, and keep me informed."

"At once."

(OOC: The hover carrier is a piece of future tech (even though for this RP she will carry F14s and 15s instead of the typical DarkSithian TIE fighters, I don't want to be at a disadvantage), and can or cannot get there on time (your call), but you are stuck with a 17th century war galleon for good. :) Of course, you can ignore even that. "Tube #1, flooded, doors open and ready for launch, sir."

The depth charges continued their 40 knot descent to the 1000 meter mark, one lagging behind by about 30 meters. The torpedo destroyed it, the shockwave of the explosion slamming the depth charge down, jostling it's circuitry as it detonated. 20 kilotons, nearly twice that of the Hiroshima bomb, exerted themselves between the two subs, the water above rising up as waves began to form in a huge ripple. The force of the atomic weapon rocked the Orca, as the sub tilted on it's side, men falling and loose items scattering throughout the vessel. Sensors were scrambled temporarily, but that was not important now. What was important was that the cruise missiles weren't knocked out of alignment, especially not the two cylinders that usually housed UAVs.
Five Civilized Nations

"Status?"
An officer rose, rubbing his head and then checking a readout.
"Everything seems to be-"
"MAJOR LEAK IN SECTOR 12!"
"ACTIVATE THE PUMPS!"
After 3 minutes, the problem seemed solved, but now the issue of locating the other sub, which had seemed to disappear. What confused the crew most was that it had fired on one of the depth charges, and delibrately at that. At 20 knots, the Orca silently continued.

Admiral Jon Reston stood at the window of the command tower of the MNS Vindicator watching the many sailors hurriedly working to repair the damage to flight deck. The weather wasn’t helping the progress either, the massive waves causing the massive aircraft carrier to gently lean from side to side.
Were did this weather come from? One minute the battle group had been sailing through clear waters and the next we are in the center of a super storm. At least the weather was improving, the lightning strikes were far less frequent. And what had happened to the rest of the battle group?

“What’s the damage report?”

“We were hit by approximately five lightning bolts in a matter of minutes. We have suffered severe damage to our communications tower and minor damage to the flight deck,” motioning out the window, “we will have three of the four catapults repaired in the next hour.”

“What about the Hawkeye that we launched before the storm, do we still have it up there or has it crashed?”

“Our microwave transponder indicates that one aircraft, most likely the Hawkeye, is in the air and we received two brief, fast-moving signatures of what appeared to be a jet. However, those could have been another after effect of the lightning strikes.”

“Admiral, We have two battleships and a surfaced submarine on sonar, but we cannot confirm the hostility of any.”

“Great, this is just great! And we have no way of contacting them?”

“None other than Morse code, but for that we would have to bring our ship to less than a mile away, well within their almost all the weapons ranges.”

A petty officer rushes onto the command deck, “A submerged nuclear blast just went off somewhere near those two battleships!”

“This situation just keeps going from bad to worst. We just get out of a super storm and now we stumble into a war zone. Well, if Lieutenant Marshall would be so kind as to call GQ, I’m going to go meditate on this issue in my study. Please bring me up dates on any new events that occur.”

It is not our fault when military commanders go completely insane. Shall we go into your history of deranged leaders? How about one you guys have right now? Now, the possible targets are as follows, based on the missile range-New Geneva, New Athens, New Bethesda, any city on the coast, every naval base in your nation, and any fleets you have in blue water. And be careful, the Orca knows all about your missile defense, and it most likely won't do a damn. The sub can get under your nose, in your bays, and fire missiles that travel too low for you to hit. They also have around 20 5 kiloton nuclear torpedoes. Our suggestion is try to locate the sub using ASW sonobuoys from helicopters, and use depth charges. Very large depth charges. Best of luck,

Things do not look good for the Horatio Hornblower. Its close proximity to the explosion was too much for the hull. Water rushed in at many places. It was a miracle that the sub actually made it to the surface at all. Crewmen pour out of the hatches, and onto the deck. Rubber rafts are inflated, and soon there is a flotilla of small orange boats slowly floating away from the sub, which slowly descends into the water. On the horizon, the two Be-200s make their appearance.

"I see boats......30km distant. The sub appears to be listing to the side."
"Roger that."
"I see fighters....two black aircraft dropping ordanance. Looks like a variation of the F-117. Doesn't show up too well on the radar."
"How's the sea conditions?"
"We can manage it. It would've been better if they got a boat out here."
"A little far, though."

The two berievs had already re-fueled their high-efficency low-emission jet engines once.

"Ok, preparing to set down. Brace for landing."

The Be-200 slowly descends to the water. It touches the wavetops and gradually slows down to a stop about 200 meters from the boats. The other aircraft circles overhead.

The door opens, and an inflatable rubber boat is lowered into the water. It motors over to the lifeboats, and slowly tows them towards the waiting seaplane.

"This is control. Assume evasive manuevers and activate the chaff. Just keep the squadron en route to the Pacifica."

"Understood control!"

The five remaining Copperheads increase speed and altitude and continue south to the RMAC09.

--The Carrier group Beta en route to the Orca: The RMAC11 Pacifica--

The carrier group continues it's course due north to the Orca.

"Captain! We just recived word from RMNF dispatch that we are to hold our position! Apparently the RMSD (Republic of Markov Space Defense) is going to intervene."

"I see....hehe i see what they're going to do......."

The battlegroup comes to a stop 1500 miles from the Orca.

"This is Sparta! Amerigo, do you copy?!"

"This is Amerigo Control, we read you."

"Amerigo,as you know the UCSNE submarine: Orca is now a little under 3000 miles from Markov. The president has ordered that the STAR-GUARD and OAPDN networks be activiated. "

"Can do."

"Relay this message to the other three stations and the OCS. Then stand-by for further instructions."

Just a note....most ICBM's don't use their rockets once in the atmosphere. Slight corrections are made and then the Reentry vehicle uses a trajectory targeting...basically freefall.

OOC-Oh yeah. I was thinking of a high-altitude GM when I wrote that, I know Markov has them.
