the difference is the type of fire
the A1 and A2 have a slecter switch with 3 settings.
the A1 has safty, 1 round burst (semi auto), and automatic fire.
the A2 has safty, 1 round burst, and 3 round burst.

the difference is the A2 isn't a true automatic firearm.

M-16s cant recieve a telescopeing butt. That is either a Colt Commando, or a M-4 carbine.
