Anti-Terror Monetary Aid Act (ATMAA)
Senator Charles Colson of Microvania introduced a bill today that, if passed, would allow the funding of those nations currently at war with Guerrillistan. (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=115456&highlight=)
The United Microstates has long championed isolationism, the government's main responsibility being that of defense. It is, however, possible to argue for overseas military interventions using a more pro-active interpretation of the defense policy.
"If Credonia and their allies fail to win this war against Guerrillistan, I have no doubt in my mind that eventually Guerrillistanian-supported terrorists would attack the United Microstates," argued Colson during today's session of Senate.
Fellow Republican and isolation hawk, Senator Bat Puchanan of Microlina, went on to rail against the idea of intervening in the war.
"Look, we've already gone too far as it is by allowing our private citizens to go overseas to fight (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?t=115088&highlight=) in these wars. To have our own military get involved is just insane. This is a republic, not an empire!"
Currently, at least one group of private citizen 'freedom fighters' has declared their intent to fight against Guerrillistan in the current war. (http://www.nationstates.net/forum/viewtopic.php?p=2619791&highlight=#2619791)
The bill will be voted on shortly. If the bill passes the Senate, it goes on to a vote in the House of Representatives.
