The Tortured Dreams of a Mad Psychic

Roseway

...it was a small room, in a small bungalow, on a huge world...

A man sat up in bed, screaming. When he had calmed himself, he listened. There was nothing there - just the bellow of some huge animal in the distance, the rustle as a creature passed through the branches and foliage that completely covered and probably composed the planet Yggdrasil.

Reluctantly, he lay back down. His brain just wouldn't let him sleep...

He stared, thoughtfully, at the ceiling, and reflected on what his freakish awareness had told him. It showed wars, terrible wars, between the Empire this man was a part of and a universe inhabited by unimaginably powerful creatures...

...waves changed shape on the stormy sea as what appeared to be an island charged up from the depths. The head of a giant sea turtle snapped for air as the crackling lightning revealed the airstrip painted on its back...

...a panserbjorn crunched the rock of a paving stone on what had once been an affluent neighborhood. The Imperial symbol flared on its cloak as two orcs dragged a bound and gagged prisoner to him...

...hundreds of thousands of Protoss bombardment vessels hovered over a nondrescript world, their combined masses somewhat affecting the tides. As one, they released a destructive payload worthy of a much larger world on it. The surface buckled and shook as it imploded like a balloon...

...the Fithp shock troopers charged at the enemy line, railguns ready. They fired, and orbital-velocity slugs detonated inside the tanks, flipping them into the air like insects. In what appeared to be either habit or racial memory, one of the elephant-like sentients kicked over one of the still-standing tanks and slowly rested a bionic-sheathed foot on it...

...a horde of camel-mounted Fremen flanked a slow-moving sandworm in a burning desert. An Imperial X-Wing zoomed over them...

...battle-mechs slowly walked through the warp field, guns ready, as they prepared for yet another invasion of yet another world...

...Yggdrasil burned...

The psychic would have payed quite a bit of lifetime in order to stop recieving the visions, but they tormented him, as if they knew just what he did not want to see. They came from nowhere to change a peaceful night into a nightmare...

Official communique to the nation of Roseway:
The Samtonian military is alarmed by reports of a "psychic" receiving visions of an armed foe waging war upon a yet unnamed nation. In this regard, fearing for the safety of us and our allies, the Samtonian Intelligence Corps would like to debrief this man and see the projected military power of these unknown combatents. Your help would be most appreciated.

(OOC: Let's see, references to Starcraft, Star Wars, Dune, Mechwarrior, and Warcraft... Did I miss anything?

Anyways, real good so far...

Samtonia: It's a freaking dream!!! Nothing has happened)

IC:

The door to the room opened and a man stepped through, shrouding the room in light.

"Have those visions of yours again?"

It's called IC, as I assumed that his government was releasing the info on this man's visions. If mistaken, we retract our letter. Oh, and I do believe I caught a reference to the Phillip Pullmann series "His Dark Materials".

(OOC: Norse mythology, perhaps? "Yggdrasil" is the tree that holds the world together, so maybe it burning would be significant?)

(OOC: Nobody knows that this guy has had dreams, so please delete your post, because of its irrevelancy...)

Our nation, in the past, has conducted psychic research. However, our efforts, for the most part proved fruitless, and it was discontinued. We feel that some of our information gained could be helpful. If Roseway does not mind, we would like to invite the psychic undergoing these visions to our nation, and possible, we could find a way to supress them.

((OOC: Samtonia and Exonerate, this is not an official government release, just the tortured dreams of a mad psychic.
Congratulations to 5CN for seeing those, nobody else said anything about them, and, in fact, you missed a few. The panserbjorn was, in fact, from His Dark Materials. The Fithp, elephant-like sentients, are from Niven and Pournelle's Footfall.
The battle-mechs and sea turtle I just dreamed up, and Yggdrasil is a planet composed entirely of a tree. Yeah. I have a very active imagination. Somewhat based on Midworld from Foster, however.
This post was just to show you guys what I have up my sleeves... Moties, thranx, Amplitur, Hork-Bajir and more coming soon, in different forms.))

The old psychic shook his head. "Terrible wars... the extinction of so many..."
He stood up. "The fall of the Empire! That is what it is! There are events in motion to topple... us..."
He plopped back onto the bed. "But of course you don't believe me."

((OOC: Of course not. No one in the Empire believes it can fall, it's that frikkin' powerful. Not the Rosewegian Empire, just the Empire. It's my imaginative universe, which lies in my head, with a portal to NationStates at Roseway.))

(OOC: Wow, really similar to the dreams Paul "Muad'Dib" Atreides was having in Dune...)

The man pulled a chair next to the bed and sat down.

"There is no such thing as the future. Humankind faces multiple possible futures, many of which hinge on seemingly inconsequential events. Your only seeing one possible scenario of the future... Everything we do can easily change it, shifting to another scenario..."
Roseway

((OOC: And this really is in the wrong forum... sorry all.))

"Yes. And no. There are many possible futures, but events now can fix the multiverse's destiny on one point. When you drop a rock, of course you can expect it to fall, and something the Emperor is doing right now is dropping it on all of us."
Five Civilized Nations
22-01-2004, 02:31
"The future, the past, and the present are intertwined, a weave that forms at any point in time. There is no way we can prevent the future. We can only know what to expect, but we can't change it..."

The madman shook his head. "No," he said, "the future is fluid. The future can be changed. I have changed it once, son. With your mother. If the future were solid, you would never have been born. Now bring me my console. I need to make some travel arrangements."

(OOC: Okay... My character is your son now... okay... Also do you realize I was contradicting myself in my previous and my second previous posts...)

"Sure thing, pops..."

Standing up, the man walked out of the room...

OOC: Hork-Bajir? How well I remember those Salad Shooters from Hell. I was wondering if anyone would start an RP with Animorphs in it. Looks like you've done it.

Not quite, not yet.
You know, that's the second time I've been commended for using creatures from little-known book series in an RP.

Er, em, ignore my post then :P

I actually recognized the bear... I read the books, good series.

OOC: Whaddaya talking about, little known?! I'll have you know that Animorphs was a very popular series back around the year 2000. There was Jake, Rachel (the bear), Marco, Cassie, Tobias, Ax, Visser Three (now One) and others. Not to mention the Yeerks themselves. Ugh, I hate slugs that crawl into your brains and steal your bodies.

*Looking through the screen at the scene unfolding between father and "son"*
*laughs*

Soon the Empire will fall. It is as the psychic has seen. I felt it my moral duty to warn someone that the end of their world was at hand...even if I had to send hallucinations through ancient tesla technology. Soon the attack will come. And it will be remorseless.

*Turns away from the screen and bows low to the man who has just walked through the door of his laboratory*

((OOC: Well, I didn't know anyone else who read it... I guess that's because I was homeschooled.
Ugarit, how did you get a camera into my imagination? You are free to participate in this RP [originally it was not intended as an RP anyway] as long as you follow my rules. He sensed the future. He is a crazed psychic. Incidentally, if you got Tesla tech anywhere near Yggdrasil or similarly flammable worlds, it would have been blasted six ways to Saggitarius before you could even call for help.))

The old man finished typing and set aside his console. His son had almost finished packing.
He stood up and walked to his window, taking in the beauty of the endless leaves. Soon he would be gone. He had no doubt the Emperor would see him, but there may not be time...
The air-taxi came in from the north. It had left the station above the equator and actually hadn't had much distance to go before it reached the bungalow.

In the taxi, the son spoke.

"Father, the Emperor will never let you see you... He has neglected the administration of his Empire. There is no way, he will see a psychic from some backwater planet..."
Roseway
27-01-2004, 04:10
The father smiled. "Trust me," he said, "he will see us."
The taxi stopped abruptly. The driver jumped out of the car into a smaller airbike beneath it. Space ripped as an Imperial transport came out of nowhere and folded the taxi, psychic, and astonished sun into its massive cargo hold.

(OOC: Norse mythology, perhaps? "Yggdrasil" is the tree that holds the world together, so maybe it burning would be significant?)

Its also the hero unit of Zerg Overlord in Starcraft. I doubt he even knows what 'Norse' is.
Roseway
27-01-2004, 04:24
I know what Norse is, and that's why I named the tree-world that. And they never used the hero Overlord in Starcraft. That was kind of dissapointing.

(OOC: The Overlord hero was and always will be useless...)
27-01-2004, 04:32
From a sewer drain, a strange man watched the taxi get loaded into the transport. Most of his people hid in the caverns below an enviromentally sound island network after the Desolation, but he had chosen to watch the humans from their sewers. He crawled out an alley manhole and placed a tracer on the transport. He backed into the alley quickly; all the sunlight could damage his ghostly white flesh.

All it was was was a tough, heavily armored version of the dropship.
Anyways...
He nodded, like his son was an imbecile, in a motion he had mastered over years as a widower. "Yes, that's what I meant," he said, slowly.
They felt a slight rumble as the cargo vessel ripped again.
