Citing growing concerns over global terrorism, rogue states and unstable regimes, the Eredron government confirmed that the Eredronian military had initiated a chemical and biological weapons program at "secure military facilities".

General Westmore, the highest ranking military commander under the Consul and Senate, confirmed the existence of the weapons programs during an international conference, and said that the programs did not mark a shift in Eredron's foreign policy.

"Eredron remains committed to peace; as always, Eredron will make every effort to prevent war...[but] will not hesitate in using whatever force we deem necessary to protect our national security, our interests both home and abroad."

The programs come at a time when the Eredron military is undergoing an extensive modernization and restructuring, aimed at streamlining the armed forces and reducing operational costs.

Attempting to reassure the international community, the Consul reaffirmed Eredron's commitment not to provide for sale any weapon of mass destruction and prevent them from falling into the hands of unstable regimes.

Despite a growing number of protests, the Senate announced it would not call for restrictions or an end to the military's chemical and biological weapons programs, first publicly revealed less than two months ago.

Nearly twelve thousand gathered in the capital to protest the military's plans to test the recently developed VX-E chemical agent in a contained environement on the Jinao Island, site of Eredron's first nuclear test detonation and home to a heavily guarded military research facility.

Structure of VX-E

The agent is normally in a liquid state, odorless and possessing a low volatility. VX-E is the most lethal chemical developed by the military, and acts as an excellent adhesive, that is nearly impossible to remove from a surface it has come in contact with.
