Facing the growing problem of aging equipment, vehicles, aircraft and vessels, the Eredron Military Command submitted a fifty point plan to the Eredron Senate twelve years ago, outlining a detailed plan to modernize, restructure, and streamline the Eredronian armed forces.
Army
Over a three year period, the M-16 Assault Rifle was phased out of active military use, replaced by the new M-44 CW((NS version of OICW)); the older M-16s were delegated for use with Reserves units and District Militia.
The last of the aging Vulcan AA systems were retired for Reserves use in the militia forces of the Eredronian Principalities, replaced with the mobile Avenger Anti-Air defense, recently designed by the Eredron Defense Corporation.
All Abrams Tanks have been fully converted to the M-1A2E version, which features state-of-the-art combat technology, reinforced armor, and enhanced combat maneuverability, while decreasing the annual maintenance cost.
Navy
The modernization of the navy was the most extensive.
The last CVN-68 Nimitz Aircraft Carrier is to be decommissioned and sold in five years, a year after the fourth and final CVN-77 Carrier is to have put out to sea. This new carrier reduces maintenance costs and the number of servicemen required, while at the same time increasing the efficiency of refueling and launching.
The aging Iowa Battleships were decommissioned almost a year ago, following the end of The Shining War; two now serve as museums. These vessels of war have been replaced by the more capable DD-21 Land Attack Destroyer.
Eredron's ballistic and attack submarine fleets have been reduced, with many of the older submarines decomissioned.
Air Force and Strategic Bomber Force
The EMC advocated for a modernization of Eredron's bomber force, long dominated by the aging Tu-160 Blackjack bomber; following an extensive upgrading of Eredron's NRMC, which included Eredron's main bomber factories, a significantly improved bomber version was implemented, dubbed the Tu-170E Implacable bomber.
Eredron's Air Transport Fleet has been streamlined, allowing for more efficient deployment of troops, equipment, and vehicles. The C-5E Galaxy has become the flagship of this fleet, supported by a considerable force of EA-80 Transports and G-12 Troop Transports.
The F-22E Firehawk has become the sole fighter of the Eredron Air Force, allowing factories to devote their resources to one aircraft, instead of supplying parts for numerous fighters. The Firehawk fills the role of an air superiority fighter, while also fulfilling the need for a limited-role bomber.
Strategic Nuclear Initiative
Construction of over two hundred missile silos is underway in Eredron and her Principalities, as Eredron continues its limited buildup of nuclear weapons, namely the EDI Stryker Mark II ICBM. Construction is scheduled to finish in three years.
