Righteousness

What is right? An instinctive reaction? A biased opinion? or the will to survive?

Man has never truly defined it.

Throughout history we find examples where 'righteousness' is flawed, just as humans are. In the Crusades, European Christianity never stopped to think that they were violating the very law their own God set down, 'Thou shall not kill'. Religion, like man, is flawed. True, it would only serve to guide us, to help us, but did it? How did does killing for your religion help?

Thus, I shout out to 'heaven', "What is right?"

Silence answers me, there is no right.

Arkenskaya

Several 'terrorists' who attempted to bomb a local airport were being publicly beaten. Blood stained the clothes of the police as they ruthlessly beat the men with batons and the hard fibreglass stocks of shotguns. The 'terrorists' whimpered, no longer do they find faith in the path they have chosen but they only wished to end their suffering.

However, the police remained stubborn, with a headstrong belief of 'righteousness'. In front of the many men, women and children, they were shredded with automatic fire. It was not over, sadism has overtaken the once disciplined police, as a few officers rip open the guts of the cold, bloody corpses of the 'terrorists' and coil them into a stun baton, frying them into a crisp.

The gruesome scene was cut short, as other policemen arrive at the scene, a bit late. They reprimand those who took part in the callous action, took the bodies and left.

As if nothing had happened, the people continue their lives, caring less about the poor men who had died that day.

OOC:
I'm not tired of the same of old roleplay. Terrorists and wars. I'm tired of how the people play it.

Let's see the same old roleplay, this time, the terrorists are the ones who are being oppressed. Publicly and ruthlessly. Though, I'm not asking for my nation's deathwish, far from that. I just want to see if the average NS forumgoer can see 'justice' and 'righteousness' from a different angle.

<Location: Parliament Building in the RCO capital of Kirkwick. A meeting is taking place among cabinet members. The issue of terrorism comes up in the discussion>

Prime Minister Burke: What else do we have on the agenda?

Defence Minister Strauss: Our intelligence has picked up some reports of terrorist activity in Zvarinograd.

Burke: Zvarinograd?

Minister of Foreign Affairs Voegelin: It's located within a Communist region, sir.

Burke: What do the terrorists stand for?

Strauss: That, sir, we are uncertain about.

Burke: What do you know?

Strauss: The reports are unclear, but apparently the police forces there have brutally put down at least some of them. An attempted bombing of an airport ended in a scene that can only be described as sickening. Here is a summary of what intel has gleaned.

Burke: <scans the document> Good Lord....what do we know about Zvarinograd?

Voegelin: We are collecting information now, sir, but it will take some time.

Strauss: Should the government announce a position on the events?

Burke: Choosing between mad bombers or sadistic bobbies? I think not. Voegelin, have RCOMFA see what it can find on Zvarinograd. Strauss, have intel look into what the terrorists stand for, and anything else they can find on them. Also see if you can discover Zvarinograd's military strength. After that, then we'll see if we should get involved. Kipling?

Imperial Minister Kipling: Yes, sir?

Burke: Contact Day in Conradistan. Depending on what we find out, we may be able to act as mediator, and the Colony would be the best place to hold talks.

Kipling: Yes, sir.

Burke <more to himself than anyone>: people who will kill civilians and coppers that gut their quarry....what in bloody hell type of country is Zvarinograd?

Senior Epistolary Erazmann leafed through the pages of reports from all over the world, detailing petty disputes and fresh warnings of heresy from over-zealous underlings in atheist nations. He sighed; sometimes he wished he was one of the Inquisitors- surely they didnt spend all day in an office with this worthless pile of meaningless information?

Then he caught sight of the report from Zvarinograd. Yes, this was of interest; he would have to think about promoting Udreth...

Placing it in the dispatches file he turned to his desk and began to write.

"Your Holiness, the matter enclosed has come to my attention. I deem this significant enough to dispatch an inquiry to the region, and ask that I be chosen to lead it, should you agree with my analysis. I await your reply, and shall begin research into the general and particulars of the nation.

Abandoned Warehouse, Northern Arkenskaya

"Where are you, you sonavab--"

A policeman shouted, with a heavy Slavic accent. He slammed the door with one end of his M4 Carbine as he entered. Rage filled his face, every step he took he stomped. Rage could only get him so far, however, as he was shot by men at the other, dimly lit end of the large warehouse. The policeman immediately fell into the floor.

More policemen came into the warehouse, guns ablazing, towards the men. The once quiet warehouse became a warzone. Bullets flew to either end of the warehouse, bodies fell, blood spilled. The firefight lasted for over thirty minutes before the 'terrorists' fled the scene with a diverting smoke bomb, temporarily impeding the policemen.

The policemen helped their friend lying down on the floor, thankfully he only has two gunshot wounds. One on the arm and one on the leg.

"I'll get them... if it's the last thing I do, I'll get them..." He mumbled, as he was taken outside.

Erazmann stamped his feet impatiently to ward off the cold. More clashes between terrorists and police. He had spent several hours searching newspapers and archives on Zvarinograd, but there was nothing to say who these terrorists were or what they wanted. A government official had agreed to meet him for talks, so here he was outside the building. It showed signs of recent building work, and a new security system was displayed obviously in the shatter-proof window.

Eventually a policeman in body armour emerged through the re-enforced door. "The minister will see you now". Erazmann thanked him in poor Slavic, and passed gradually through the security checks.

One thing was clear, he thought as the climbed the staircase. The government were meeting this threat with force. This could break into a small war.

"Greetings Mr. Erazmann." Dr. Sergei Valkov, minister of science and advisor to the Premier, greeted the visitor. "It is a please to meet you," he takes a bottle of vodka from his table, "May I tempt you?"

"No thanks," Erazmann replied, "About the information?"

"Of course, let us begin with the reasons for the "vendetta", shall we?" Valkov cleared his throat and began a long speech. "First and foremost, the government isn't supporting this madness at all."

"What?" Erazmann was baffled, what he just thought was wrong.

"Yes, the government isn't supporting this at all and is powerless to stop it without declaring martial law because we have no other way to detain the entire police force. That would just make the situation far worse than it is right now." He pauses, "Our concern, especially the Premier's, is the people. The people will not accept martial law, they didn't support a communist movement against an oppressive capitalist government just to be oppressed again. We tried reasoning with either side, but they wouldn't listen. The terrorists think that we're supporting this and the police wouldn't say anything about it."

Valkov leans closer, "I don't know how much more we can take this before all hell breaks loose, we're getting desperate. One option is to send highly trained operatives to solve the mystery behind these firefights and end it once and for all. Unfortunately, we lack just that, highly trained operatives. The military's special forces' training is below average, chances are that we would fail."

Erazmann leant back in his chair and was silent for a full minute before replying.

"What we need" he spoke slowly , "are insiders in the police-force. If - as it appears - there is a powerful man somewhere force orchestrating at least the police actions, if not the whole affair, we need to find him and kill him.

We do not have a great number of trained assassins in our nation; however, if you would permit it, we can attempt to infiltrate the police with ecclesiastical agents to recover more information. Others will use their skills in oratory to keep the public reasonably calm. However, we will need much information and support from your own operatives, and i fear that once we have recovered what information we can, it will be up to you to carry out the required action.

I will send details to my superiors immediately- it may be that they will send a couple of Paladins to help in the training of your special forces. They are not assassins, but elite fighters nonetheless. In the meantime, what of the terrorists? If we know their grievences, they may listen to us as we are not members of your government. In fact, there will be only ecclesiastical personel involved, so a Church may succeed where a government cant."

"The terrorists are, unfortunately, as much a mystery to the government as the whole affair is. However, some policemen have told me that th--" Realization dawned him. He stopped and stood up.

"What is it?" Erazmann asked.

"Damn." Valkov opens a closet and takes out 10mm pistol, "Did you just meet a policeman outside?" He leans against the wall, beside the door, gun held up.

"Yes, why?" Erazmann stood up as well.

"I didn't hire a guard." Valkov said, with a grimace.

"But, that means--"

"Yes. They came before you arrived, they were about to kill me. I know too much." Suddenly, gunfire peppered the door. Erazmann lied down, heading under the desk. "There's probably a listening bug on you! Find it and destroy it!" Valkov opened the door and fired at the policemen outside.

OOC:
Bump for Daviestan.
22-01-2004, 12:36
A loud, monotone and crackling voice is heard over a Federation loudspeaker.
"We have knowledge of your underhand terrorist activities, conspirators of Zvarinograd and Daviestan. Police control and oppression drones have been deployed, and your lack of any able guard whatsoever was a source of much amusement to us at the Yukifuki PD. We 'advise' you to submit yourself to a humble defeat, arrest and full orifice-probing, or our fully armed cybernetically enhanced officers of the Peace will have you sent for brainwashing and systematic destruction. We at the Federation stress kindly that there will be no quarter given. Submit yourselves to rigorous questioning and interrogation or else suffer the full crippling might of Yukifuki Law."

The crackling ceases and there is eerie suspenseful silence as the elite counter-terrorism and liberty oppression squad await the word of defeat from the two lawbreakers.

Erazmann franatically checked through his numerous pockets and folds in the ornate garments of office.

"The guard did a thorough search...it could be anywhere!" he growled. "No...wait...there shouldnt be a clasp on this!" he ripped off he "ornament" to reveal a small radio device concealed on its underside.

"Now, what weapons do you have?"

"Only this pistol, I'm afraid" replied Valkov. "I wasnt expecting your weapons to be removed before you came in!"

"then we'll have to resort to traditional methods" he said grimly, pulling a knife from deap within his robes. "And do you have anything to burn?"

"Yuki-Fuki, I know where you live." shouted Erazmann. "Unless you back down now Daviestan will unite other nations to destroy your pathetic base-acamp once and for all. The police are the terrorists here, not us. You will not be warned again"

A robotic, flad laugh is heard echoing through the walls of the Parlimentary building, muffled by the hum of a Federation bodyshield generator.
"Your resistance is seen as more ignorance than courage, Senior Erazzman. -You- will destroy our 'base-camp'? Fool, the all-pervasive police force here spans the whole sector. We control those who clean your dwellings, cook your food and sell your groceries. We control the ground you walk on and the words you speak. Any pathetic insurrection you are planning will be instantaneously quelled. Such mindless rebellion would not have been expected of a high-ranking Ecclesiache official like yourself, but what can you do. *laughs*"

A short burst of static is heard, and the heavy bulkhead at the bottom of a lengthy flight of stairs creaks open. The police wait tentatively outside, weapons prepped and ready.

After waiting for the robots to finish repeating themselves repeatedly, Erazmann contacted Daviestan.

"YFS's gone mental. Prepare to invade."

OOC: You gotta roleplay infiltration. I seriously doubt you'll manage it in an Inquisitorially-controlled system, but feel free to try. In a different topic. And i assume "Ecclesiache" was supposed to mean "Ecclesiastical" but never mind.

IC: "The words 'Come and get us' come to mind"

After patrolling and monitoring the parlimentary building for several minutes, an official sit-rep is sent back to YFS Espionage headquarters.
"Sir, our troops have checked out the area. I, as squadron captain, cannot possibly show these...these traitorous inquisitors any kind of fear. Sir, we..we know that, even unarmed, a Senior Ecclesi-whatever official is a great danger. After suffering several of what seem to be Daviestan's guerilla attacks, I don't believe our resident police squad here is at all armed or prepared enough to take these villains on. I suggest an immediate re-armament back at Home. Besides, I haven't spent quality time with the wife and kids for months now. Kay'l 335 out."

The wailing of sirens is heard, as YFS Law Enforcement Officials back down and prepare for a full attack.

"Let these traitors sqabble amongst themselves" the YFS Father replies, "they will soon feel our might in due course..."
