Today the Deshdenstadti 12th and 23rd Infantry moved into a county inhabited primarily by Serbs, the largest minority in Deshdenstadt. Rumors of rebellion caused the MRDA (Military Republic of Deshdenstadt Army) to go through search and seizure, finding large caches of weapons and handmade explosive devices. Things went south when Serbian militants began opening up on search forces.

With snipers and machine gun positions keeping the soldiers under constant fire, MRDA forces withdrew and began calling in artillery on the villages.

Nearly every building standing was pummeled into the ground as 155mm and 105mm fire raked the area, followed with gun runs by QuickBird AH-6K helicopters. Our reporters have been forced to withdraw due to security reasons, but we have one shot of one of the villages after the bombardment.

The Red Cross has also been denied access, but estimated casualties are around 30,000 Serbs dead, and 23 MRDA troops killed.

The administration and people of the Aequatian Republic find this unecessary and excessive use of force appalling, as well, the denying of Red Cross medical officials is sickening. Genocidial acts such as these shall not be tolerated, we demand that the government of Deshdenstadt explain its reasoning for such actions.

These villages are filled with armed insurgents, many seen with anti tank weapons. Reports from one village say the back roads were mined with old Russian AT charges, and sniper fire was cutting down anyone in the street. As we have stated, the Red Cross will be allowed in after the villages are declared secure by MRDA forces.

It is the nature of all these "Do-gooders", the minute they see conflict it is labeled as imperialist genocide. While the MRDA denial of Red Cross seems extreme, would you rather have them shot up by Serbian diehards? Many Beth Gellens have been shocked by the apparent ham-fisted over-kill reportedly enacted by the MRDA. Iskra! media channels have been sprinkled with variously horrified and incensed reactions from the public, with few comrades voicing sympathy for the Deshdenstadt government or military.

There has been some talk of deploying Beth Gellen peacekeepers, and Commonwealth Chief Consul comrade Chivo has forwarded to the Deshdenstadt authorities what is at this stage said to be, "an offer" of such police forces. "For the security of all concerned, and the moderation of international backlash against the country in question." So said Chivo before the Final Senate.

Why has your government jumped right to the use of military forces to search on mere rumours and not attempt to settle the delicate situation with negotiations and spare the several thousand unecessary deaths?

[Why? Let me update you on the history of the Serbian Minority and politics and Deshdenstadt. When Serbian immigrants accepted statehood in the early Deshdenstadti govt. in 1895, there was a time of relative peace. But, in 1904, there was an armed insurgency, which was shut down by Serb-Deshdenstadti loyalists. And throughout the latter half of the 20th century, Serbs have turned to car bombings and the occasional police killing. But in recent times, the Serbian Underground movement has been spreading messages of hate and rebellion. Early claims were not enough to act upon, but the most recent rumor of the weapons dumps confirmed our fears. You do not negotiate with terrorists.]

Today, MRDA forces have begun clearing the villages of Serbian militants, with minimal casualties. As of now, MRDA troops are beginning to clear the most dangerous village.

The camoflauged Sgt. clutched a 6.35mm Kuchler Automatic Rifle as he crouched behind a ruined wall, waving to the Squad Machine Weapon team. As the two soldiers, one with the SMW, the other with ammo, moved up the street, the steady thud of a .50 caliber machine gun filled the air. Both men ran for a crater in the road, but the ammo carrier seemed to slide into it as the .50 round punched through his chest, his body smearing blood to mark it's path. The gunner pulled the body in, grabbing his ammunition, and opening up on the area where the muzzle flash was seen. The side of the broken down apartment fragmented as the torrent of rounds went through it, dust everywhere. As the gunner put in another clip of ammunition, he heard the Sgt. scream, "Everybody down! RP-"
The weapon impacted right in front of the crater, the hunched, deafened gunner spared from the up and outward spread of the shrapnel. The Sgt. swore as he patched into the radio.
"Kilo four, Maus Niner, we need immediate air support, West side of the gray apartment complex, be advised they have a .50 and some RPGs."
"Roger that Maus, we're moving in for a gun run. Get your heads down."
The AH-6K was loaded with a 12.7mm minigun and HE rockets, all ready to fire as the helicopter swooped just above roof level. A trail of ejected brass flew behind it as it's minigun opened up, followed by the howl and bang of two HE rockets. The side of the apartment seemed to crumble and collapse as it burned, the soldiers once again advancing.

In the basement of the ruined building was a large crate, with 3 Yellow stripes around it. The Sgt knew the ID markings for munitions, and a triple yellow was not good.
"Get an EOD and a HAZMAT team in here, the Serbies have Chemical in the basement."
The HAZMAT team rushed in 5 minutes later, carefully opening the box. There was a rack with 6 canisters, all with triple yellow stripes on them. They slowly released each one. All of them had their deadly chemicals in them, VX, except for one. It was missing it's cylinders, and from the looks of it, it had been carrying them until very recently. One HAZMAT suited soldier looked at the empty canister, and muttered.
"Oh, shit."

The President entered the chamber, looking around at the carved mahogany chairs and table, appreciating his decision to have a more simply designed conference room.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Alen Torg, spoke first. "Sir, the situation in Deshdenstadt is, well, interesting, as you can tell from the reports. The Serbs evidently want independence, but they have been denied it since 1905. Now, I believe that if we recognize a Serbian nation, we could end this fighting sooner rather than later."

"Recognize Serbian independence? But would that not anger Deshdenstadt?" The Minister of Defence looked slightly angry.

The President smiled as an idea crossed his mind. "Recognize the Serbian right for independence. However, also offer them refugee status in our nation, and a large enough swathe of land to hold them all in true Mapalgetian style. Then grant this area to the new Serbian government."

"But sir, will we not have to declare war to defend the Serbs against Deshdenstadt?" Alen Torg asked.

"Well, we may be forced to send a multinational expeditionary force...under the control and flag of the Serbs, of course."

You were preparing to invade us to deny us of the Southern territories, and besides, there are over 100 million Serbs. Casualty estimates are of 30,000 from attacking isolated rebel villages.
