New form of military in Empire of Haukka showed that in Empire of Haukka was need of new assault rifle. After testing of AR-2 that uses 5,56mm NATO standard bullets and AR-3 that uses 6,59mm bullets. The AR-3 was choosed.

It has lower punch than 7,62mm and it goes better trough from all kind of vegetation than 5,56mm bullets.
