Cortina AFB, 25th Annual Cortina AirShow
A General approaches the stand, he is wearing the blue-gray of the Aerospace Force, and his hair is gray and close cut.
"Ladies and Gentlemen, today you have seen the cutting edge in New Empirian aircraft and pilots. But, for this 25th show, we will show you the sharpest point. If you would look at the viewscreen behind me."

"You are now viewing a magnified image from one of our satellites of the F-115 Fury. As you can see, the Fury is capable of reaching the limits of low orbit, hence the armored cockpit. The Fury, with two Hybrid Pulse Detonation engines, and, under the wings, two SCRAMjets, can reach speeds of Mach 5, making it our first Hypersonic fighter. The F-115 can carry 12 Air to Air High Manuver Extended Range missiles in it's bay, including the Space variant. In it's nose is a 20mm Railgun. It uses the latest in LADAR, Synthetic Aperture Radar, IR, Electromagnetic Spectrum sensors, and advanced computer systems to give it a dominating lead in the electronic battlefield. The F-115, as some of you may have figured out, is designed to intercept high altitude hostiles, defend or destroy orbital facilities. But it also has another purpose."
The image on the viewscreen changed.

"This is the F/A-117 Apollo, another Hypersonic craft. It is designed to bring a lot more punch to the battlefield. The Apollo will travel at high altitudes, and descend to bring a 30mm Railgun and up to 18 bombs or air to surface weapons upon the enemy. While the Apollo can hold it's own against any Russian, European, or American fighter, it will travel with escorts, the F-115 Fury. Like it's escort, the Apollo will have LADAR, SAR, IR, and EMS, along with advanced flight and weapons computers. Both aircraft are equipped with our Athena and Wetball systems. These are what we are going to fly into battle with."
A pair of both aircraft were suddenly heard with a roar as they streaked over the base, followed by their muffled sonic boom.
"That is the future of Aerospace Defense. Thank you for your time."

OOC-These aerospacecraft are coming to a theater of battle near you in about 1.5 weeks.
Bump.

How much are these planes likely to cost?
Am I correct in saying the fly in the atmosphere and then dive to attack?

The F-115A will be going at around $82 Million per aircraft, and $90 Million per F/A-117A. Please note the F/A-117 has nothing to do with the American F-117. The aircraft may not come on sale in the international market for quite some time (3 RL Weeks).
The aircraft, during a strike mission, are designed to fly near low orbit, out of missile and radar range, and dive to attack the target before returning to orbit. During ASAT/Satellite Defense/Interception, they will launch into low orbit to deliver their payloads, or move stealthily toward enemy attack formation. Both are capable of flight in space and atmosphere, but it is not recommended they travel beyond low orbit. Also, the hypersonic speeds are merely to reach orbit, and under computer control due to the dangerous nature of flight over Mach 3.

Not really, they're just coming into service now... I'll update this thread when they're for sale.
