BTR-90UM Armored Personnel Carrer

Kazakhstania has for too long been forced to use IFV's as a pose to APC's, and the lowly BTR-90 does no longer cut it for troop movement and protection. Therefore, we have created a new APC to rival even the highest APC's in the world. It is a revolutionary APC, and we hope it will lead us into the new world order, offering its services for many years to come.

So, lets announce, the:

BTR-90UM Armored Personnel Carrer

Design

Built around the strengthened base of the BTR-90, a relatively new Russian Vehicle. The BTR-90 is similar to all the previous BTR vehicles, but our latest version has strenthened armor made of a Titanium Alloy, inner coated with a Radiation Soaking Material and padded with Heat Insulated Steel. It is a crew and passenger proteting vehicle, and has been lengthened to allow for more troops to be carried.

The inner design is centered around the turret. The gunner and commander sit under the turret, and the driver sits in a reclined seat in the front. In the gap between sits the engine, highly defended and coated with insluation. The ammo hold is to the left of the vehicle, in a Tungsten, Titanium and Ceramics. The passenger compartment is to the rear, with overhead lockers, top hatches and a rear door.

The turret is very similar to that of a BMP-3. It is gently sloping, and well protected by Titanium Alloys, and Epoxy Resin Honeycomb and Tungsten. All around, the armor on the vehicle is about as strong as an IFV, but is ultra light to allow for greater speed and maneuverability. The armor is not cheap, but makes up a lot of the tanks defences.

Systems

The systems on this vehicle are the same as on the M-26UM Main Battle Tank, and are among the most sophisticated in the world:

[quote]First off, there is the Joint Tactical Information Distribution System. It allows tanks to talk to other tanks, records and sends data and manages the tanks communications systems. It is high speed and is managed by the SuperComputer just in front of the engine. It looks after inter-tank and inside tank information, and can communicate with any JTIDS equipped vehicle/unit on the planet. It either uses Satellite Communication or laser Communication.

The little antennae on the tanks roof does a lot. It transmits all satellite, radio and laser communications to communicate in any way. It is directly linked to the SuperComputer and can transmit to any covered area on the globe. This may seem minor, but is central in communication.

The 360-degree camera systems are mounted on the roof and are integrated with the Thermal and Night Vision Imaging systems. There are 2, for the Gunner and Commander. Screens at each position show the tanks status and various other things, which are monitored by sensors and the SuperComputer.

Both the gunner and commander enable the targeting system. It conveys messages to the Autoloader, co-axial gun and turret-mounted gun. The aiming system incorporates wind, temperature and target positioning and caters for it in adjusting the gun. The gunner can even target manually. It can be set to aim at Heat giving objects or targets given to it by the JTIDS. It also manages the targeting of the Anti Missile Laser, depending on which mode it is set to. This means quick and effective anti missile targeting.

The tank economy system monitors the engine and tread movement and modifies it depending on where the gunner wants the tank to go. It also varies the water exhaust flow, and manages the movement controls. A full NBC system is installed with filters in between the crew compartments and various exhaust systems.

The Jammer installed is a Multi-Frequency Electronic Jammer, nicknamed ARENA-4. It can jam electronics up to 600 metres away guaranteed and less so for hardened systems. An anti jammer-jammer called Dragon is installed, which uses jamming to cancel other jammers out.

The supercomputer itself is ultra fast and can hold, give and pass on info in nano seconds. It is liquid cooled, amazingly by the liquid produced by the engine. It maintains everything in the tank, and is vital.[/b]

Weaponary

The arnament of this vehicle is very, very good for an APC. It includes a 90mm Cannon, a 30mm Co-Axial AutoCannon and a 12.7mm "NSVK" Machine Gun. The 90mm gun has 50 roudns of ammo, in a vertical axis AutoLoader, Infinite-2. It can fire Sabot, HEAT and HE-FRAG. It can also fire modified Kornet ATGM's. The 30mm Co-Axial has 250 rounds of HE rounds and 250 of Super-Shot AP rounds. The Co-Axial Machine Gun also contains 200 roudns of ammo. On top of the turret, to commanders weapon is the NSVK 12.7mm Machine Gun, on an automatic mounting.

ATGM's can be fitted in two four missile pods, Kornet ATGM's. These are the latest versions, and can ake out tanks such as the M1A2 and Leopard 2, even fitted with ERA. The countermeasure smoke dispensers are four forward facing and 3 rear facing. These can be loaded with varying loads.

The latest Anti Missile Laser System has been fitted, complete with its infrared sensors. It can target and take down most anti tank missiles, and has been known to blast Tomahawks in testing. It can also target tank shells, if theya re detected early enough. This protects the tank from most misile attacks launched against it.

This is our latest and greatest vehicle, and is greater than most APC's in the world. We have put a lot into this, and hoep you like it.

You are making Geforce4 and Dark error angry. Amphibious forces have staged joint excercises.

Not to mention really long.

Yes, they are.

Take up some room though, and add weight.

They do exist in the testing pahse at the moment.

They tend to be a bit larger than thier counter parts but once you take ammo and mountings into consideration they aren't always that much heavier (the 30mm ETC gun upgrade for the bradley is actually smaller and lighter than the slightly lower performance 35mm conventional solution).

US studies have shown that curretly using ETC in medium calibre guns (20-50mm) gives you a 25-35% increase in muzzle velocity (works out at about and extra 1000-1500m extra range).

They estiamte that full porduction systems could give 50% velocity improvements and actually get even lighter...
(based on a study published in 1999).

In general terms it has been estiamted that a 120mm ETC will roughly be similar to the german's next gen 140mm gun in terms of size and weight (ie Kazakhstania you need a abrams or leo2 to mount a 120 ETC gun).

Please. Quite it with the ETC jumbo :?

Hey buddy, you cant have ETC, twice as much ammo as the bmp-3 turret, and still carry more than 3 or 4 troops.

The Andrehervian military would like to purchase 750 BTR-90UM Armored Personnel Carriers and, if possible, production rights.

The total cost should come to AH£1,275,000,000 for the 750 carriers.

Money will be wired upon confirmation of delivery.

Wait...what's the difference, aside from name, of an APC from an IFV?

We would like 2000...
28-02-2004, 19:25
Seems like alot of money and wasted equipment when a shell from a recoiless rifle could punch through the armor...

I can't really explain the APC-IFV thing except for this:

The M113 is an APC but not an IFV, whereas the Bradley and BMP's are both.

ETC guns are 2015 tech. Germany did a study on it and came to that conclusion.

Theyre 2008 tech. Thats when the US will field them.

Shut up!

I am making a new thread in Nationstates. Discuss there.

The Bradley is an IFV through and through, and the BMP is both I think. Anyway, APC's are essential to moving large amounts of troops, and most Shoulder Fired and Recoiless Projectiles wont get through.

Its unfortunately the same with the M2 and most early BMP's.
