Press Announcement, General Perez spokesman, Gov House Press Room
General Perez, official head of state and premier for the People's Republic of Cayo and the Outer Islands for the last year, is pleased to announce he feels Cayo is now politically ready to hold a general election.
Democratic elections were banned under the rule of both the fascist Pepito dictatorship and the Babooska regime. Now, after a year in office, General Perez believes the Cayan economy and society is stable enough to hold the first elections in four decades. The election will take place one month from today.
After much discussion, it has been decided that Cayo will follow a system of direct presidential election. The will choose the leader of a certain political party to be president, and he will then in turn choose member's of his party to take part in his cabinet. The following candidates are running:
General Ernesto Perez - Cayan People's Socialist Party
Dr David Genoa - Cayan Anarchist Party
Mr Ricardo Camillio - The Cayan Nationalist Front
Mr Elijah Gomez - Cayan Liberal Party
Dr Ellian Emmanuel - Cayan Conservative Movement
At this time it looks like the two main runners will be General Perez of the Socialists and Mr Camillio of the Nationalists.
The Cayan Council of People's Power will hold elections in two months time. This council is made up of 250 delegates who have been elected in their local area. Any citizen who passes the standard entry test, which covers the basics of politics can stand for this election. This counci will not have direct power, but will be able to advise the government on issues.
