Unum Veritas & Exonerate Announce Joint Naval Project

16-01-2004, 06:54
Hello...

The Incorporated States of Exonerate and The Imperial Republic of Unum Veritas are proud to announce that we will be joining our resources in a joint research project. Our objectives are two of the following ships:

Celerity-Class Carrier
In the modern world, it is being increasingly apparent that the traditional rules of warfare are changing. Wars in the past have called upon large, powerful, and expensive ships in order to bring about enough firepower to defeat the enemy. However, with the sudden surge in smaller, localized conflicts, response time and mobility have become more and more important. That is why, we have directed our efforts to what will become known as the Celerity-Class Carrier

The new carrier, as you may have noticed, is smaller, and contains less aircraft. However, the hull design is a trimaran design, allowing for much higher speeds, efficiency, and maneuverability. Furthermore, the reduction in size also translates to a reduction in price. There are basically three hulls, and in the case of a breach in one, the ship can still continue functioning, thus making it more durable.

We expect to be able to incorporate stealth technology into the carrier. As a benefit of the trimaran hull, the engine heat is directed between the two outside hulls, thus greatly reducing the heat signature. The Celerity-Class Carrier will be able to reach speeds in excess of 36 knots, powered by its nuclear reactor.

We anticipate to create a whole new class of ships, with this being the archetype. For years, analysts and experts have debated the usefulness of battleships in the modern navy. Prior to WW2, they were the ultimate ship - large, armored, and packing enough firepower to destroy just about any other ship. However, the introduction of the Carrier changed that, allowing the Carrier to engage a Battleship indirectly with its aircraft, which were both maneuverable and capable of carrying a large payload. Gradually, the Battleship fell out of favor, but here, we hope to replace that with the Gunship

Being approximately the same size as a traditional Destroyer, the Gunship will fulfill several roles. Firstly, with the railgun technology originally developed by Tokarev, then perfected by my nation, we hope to create small, compact cannons, without a significant loss in firepower. The smaller projectiles are no less destructive than the large 16" guns, given the incredible speed they are fired at. Furthermore, we actually expect an increase in range and accuracy. The large railguns will serve as the primary weapon for coastal bombardment and ship-to-ship engagements.

The secondary role of the Gunship will be to lay down sustainable and deadly anti-air fire, with newly developed gatling-railgun, which is capable of a sustained firing rate of 6000 rounds per minute, with an effective range of approximately 3 miles. This will be incorporated into the elctronics suite that is planned to accompany the ship, allowing for incredible coordination parallel to that of the AEGIS system. The gatling-railgun will not only serve against enemy aircraft, but also smaller naval vessels, and incoming enemy missiles.

The expected maximum speed is estimated to be around 42 knots, while carrying three 200 mm railguns as primary weapons. To power the railguns, the Gunship will be nuclear-powered.

The Incorporated States of Exonerate will be providing its railgun and electronics technology, along with monetary support and manpower, complimenting Unum Veritas' excellent ship building technique. We hope that these new designs will attract potential buyers.

Dear Exonerate and Unum Veritas,

Being a fellow member of The Kingdom of the Midlands along with Exonerate and being a fellow member of the Legion of Defence (LoD) with both nations, I wonder if I may be able to help a little bit.

Best Regards,
President Michael J. Smith,
President of Nanakaland,
Founder / President / Secritary of War of the Legion of Defence,
Member / Vice President of the Kingdom of the Midlands region

Of course, you don't have to ask. I think the only thing we'd need more of is funding, or maybe some other technology that could added on...

The Imperial Naval Republic of Unum Veritas is pleased to be involved in this joint-venture. The privately-owned, Xavier Shipwrights has won the Veritasean contract for this project. What will be the exact requirements of our firm?

We, too, would like to help by donating $6 billion to this endeavor. We would hope for our nation to be considered a second-tier nation in this project (funder)

Dear Exonerate and Unum Veritas,

Thank you for your coperation. As head of the LoD, we provide $2 billion support. We would give you more, but we have a massive space program underway. You have the full support of the LoD on this project.

Best Regards,
President Michael J. Smith,

Member / Vice President of the Kingdom of the Midlands region

P.S. Unum Veritas, visit the LoD forums.

As another LoD protector, we would be glad to help. Maybe we could get, I don't know, your railgun schematics as a side benefit?

Anyway, just name how much you would like us to contribute.

Das Uber-Deutschland is very interested in funding the Celerity carrier project. We have already produced high velocity 16" guns for our Flagship the "Land Sturm". I have not released data for my flagship yet, however it parralels some of your goals, only it's huge. Its sailing on its first military deploment as of now. We could use some top of the line, smaller aircraft carriers.

This is a rough outline of what we'd like to see... As for our budget, we can easily provide 12 billion a year.

Celerity-Class Carrier
Powerplant: Nuclear reactors.
Dimensions: 600 -700 ft in length, 225 - 275 ft in width, and less than 60 ft in height.
Displacement: Less than 32,000, fully loaded.
Speed: At the very least, 38 knots.
Aircraft: 30-36
Crew: Less than 2,400 people.

We'd prefer 3 aircraft elevators, and two launch capapults, along with a trimaran hull and stealth capabilities. As usual, we expect a full suite of electronics and conventional weapons able to provide adequate anti-air defenses.

Unnamed Gunship
Powerplant: Nuclear reactors.
Dimensions: 475-550 ft in length, 30-35 ft in width, and less than 32 ft in height.
Displacement: Less than 10,000 tons, fully loaded.
Speed: At least 42 knots.
Crew: Approximately 400.

We have already provided your government with the necessary railgun technology for the construction of both the main 200 railguns, and also the gatling-railguns.

As for electronics, we need something that is at least equal to the current AEGIS system in place on many crusiers. If possible, add a stealth design, but not if it interferes with the speed of the ship.

Price of the development is not a problem, but the carrier's price itself should be equal to or less than 2.3 billion and equal or less than 800 million for the Gunship.

We eagerly anticipate your designs.

Automastan - How good are your radar/sonar systems? Or any other field that might be useful to this endeavor?
Das Uber-Deutschland - We thank you for your support, but the monetary aspect of this operation should have no problems. The only concievable thing that could be done would be perhaps improved missiles, sonar, etc, and perhaps shipyard to build the ship after it is completed.

The carrier has moved into final development phase, while work on the gunship is still on-going.
