NBC News: NEWS REPORT

William Sherman, President of the Austar Union today has delivered a shocking speech to a media conference earlier this morning:

"We have dreamed of the impossibe for over a century. To create a large space colony. Today, the impossible became possible. Over the next 10 years, we will be building a large space colony. Please welcome NSP Directer John Matthews."

The President steps aside, and a small framed man steps up to the podium, adjusting his glases.

"Thankyou Mr. President. I am John Matthews, Director of the National Space Program. We at the NSP have been working with the government for several years now, and we have come to a final agreement."

On the screen behind him, displays a blue-print of a large cylinder structure.

"This is the space colny we have been tirelessly producing plans for. We have called it: EIOS. EIOS has been designed to house 50 Million Citizens, with tha capability to add more modules. It currently has 24 Primary Docking Stations, and a further 90 Secondary Docking Stations. This station will orbit around the planet Saturn. Its main source of power will come from 5 Nuclear Reactors. We expect our project to be finished in 10 NS Years."

The project is expected to cost $2 000 Billion over 10 Years, or $200 Billion a year. When built it will initially house over 10 Million citizens. The Station, when fully completed will be self sufficient.

Thankyou. A nation like yours deserves to be called an ally, and your citizens may come vacation at our space-station free of charge, anytime. (they have to pay for transport fees).

To the nation of Cartoria: We thank you for the offer, but the contract has already been given to our construction companies, and you assistance will not be required.

Yes, you can establish an embassy on the station if you wish. Your military need may not be able to be met though. I am trying to make it as frienly on-board as possible.

Just a note - Saturn orbital space is held by the Triumvirate of Yut. A peaceful colony might be welcomed through the Triumvirate will have to meet and decide if they will allow this based on the participating nations's previous actions.

President Atef Al-Zeif,
Sunset,
Triumvirate of Yut

OOC: Unless you are in another dimension or something, in which case ignore this.

I am sure we will be allowed to continue construction. We ask only for a sector of space, in high orbit around Saturn.

Construction will continue.

The space station is still being constructed, so when they get there, all they will find is a whole ton of construction workers... It will be complete in 10 RL Days.

I dont know much about space-stuff... I suppose high enough to keep the station in orbit, but not low enough to be able to be shot at from Saturn.

NBC News: NEWSFLASH!

Due to recent developments, it was decided to cancel the current space station plans. Instead, a distant uninhabited planet will be chosen as the site for a colony, in the Medular system. (100 Million Light Years away).

I am sorry to inform you that your request to place a station within Triumvirate space has been denied. We ask that you remain outside of the 40 million kilometer exclusionary zone. Unfortunatley, this will make your station unable to orbit Saturn, without constantly thrusting.

Odd, wasn't trying to be intimidating or implying the use of force to remove someone from the system (quite peacful folk actually).

If you don't wish to go that far I can offer two potential colony locations:

Mars - 40B people, great trade location, well terraformed, close to schools and cultural spots.

Delta Zeta IV - Only one other nation, isolationists, 29ly from Sol.

Well if you are gonna built a space colony... Might be better at this point anyway. Land claims are a bother as they usually get competition from others. The trade you would get having a station in orbit would pay for the cost faster than competing in the utterly brutal mining industry.

100 million light years away? That's not even in this galaxy.

I'd suggest equatorial orbit at about 1000km. That should allow a good pass over a lot of nations without fuel burn. There are other stations in that same band as well - trade would be easy between them and you would have rescue nearby if needed. I believe at 1000km you would be going slower than planetary rotation, so you would have a good 1-2 hours over any equatorial nation for orbital transfers. I am not an orbital engineer though, so I wouldn't take that as law.

I suggest the Kuiper Belt, because there is still a lot of empty space around there.
