Ancient and Holy Terra

Welcome, all! The "Ryuou" class submarine is a remarkable piece of engineering, and as such can only be exported to certain nations. A comprehensive background check may be performed on prospective buyers. Any countries suspected of Godmoding or Terrorism will be denied sales, as will any nation that is an enemy of the region of SR Control. We reserve the right to deny sales on basis of economy.
We also ask that any nation wishing to purchase the "Ryuou" have a population in excess of 100 million, as the high pricetag and maintenance costs would probably exceed a younger nation's GDP.
So, without further ado...
The Republic of Ancient Terra is proud to introduce the "Ryuou" class SSN. Several years of work have been spent on designing this vessel. We invite other nations' comments on the vessel. Following the design's completion, full production has begun. The "Ryuou" is the first class of vessel in the potent BLUE Fleet program, something that has until recently been shrouded in mystery.
However, only hours ago, prominent members of the governments of Ancient Terra and Neo Garner finally confirmed the existence of BLUE Fleet, and outlined its configuration.
BLUE Fleet is essentially a battlegroup...of submarines. The world's most powerful nations (USA, Japan, China, UK, Russia, India, Australia, and others) have worked closely with The Republic of Ancient Terra, and each of them is designing an exceptionally advanced submarine that promises to revolutionize the way naval battles are fought.
Japan's design, the Ryuou, is the first to be unveiled. Information follows below.

The "Ryuou" class SSN is the first in a proposed line of powerful nuclear submarines that promise to enforce The Republic of Ancient Terra's rule into the next few decades. Combining a revolutionary new "Caterpillar" drive engine along with unprecedented maneuerability and powerful weapons, the Ryuou is designed to punch through enemy lines and quietly hunt for the SSBN's and nuclear carriers that cower in hostile territory.

Weapons:
-66mm Underwater Torpedo Launcher
This launch system fires small high explosive torpedoes. At least 12 launchers are mounted around the hull in strategic positions, providing nearly 100% coverage. These small torpedoes can be used in an offensive role, and are quite capable of destroying midget-subs and DSRV's, but they are primarily an advanced countermeasure system. Capable of firing 6 rounds per minute, a sophisticated tracking system guides the 66mm torpedo towards an incoming enemy torpedo. When it closes within 5 meters, the torpedo detonates and caused a high pressure burst that (hopefully) damages the incoming projectile and causes it to explode well away from the "Ryuou".
-533mm Torpedo Launcher
The 533mm Torpedo Launcher is designed primarily to destroy other enemy submarines and surface vessels. With a body packed full of high-explosives and a depleted uranium-tipped nose, the 533mm is quite capable of punching through an enemy's hull. The torpedo is guided by wire to within 12 miles of its target before being cut loose. The active sensors then take over and guide the torpedo until it detonates. Aboard the "Ryuou" class, eight 533mm Torpedo Launchers are positioned in the front of the submarine, while two are located on the spine of the submarine. The spine launchers can fire either forwards or backwards, while the forward launchers can direct a devastating salvo of weaponry at any target.
-ABTC-083 Mk.IV Battle Computer
This is the newest variant of the (A)dvanced (B)attle (T)actical ©omputer. It interfaces directly with the sonar, targeting computers, and nearby imaging and GPS satellites to draw a composite image of the battlefield. By pinpointing the submarine's position via GPS and ELF transmitters, and by comparing topographical maps of the area, an actual 3D view of the area can be displayed onto an immense plasma TV viewscreen. Sonar pulses correct for any uncharted terrain features, and even map out possible enemy contacts as if they were completely visible and display them with a target marker, automatically measuring displacement and propeller blades to determine the class of ship or submarine. An armored viewshield on the bridge can be retracted to allow visual guidance in clear water. The ABTC system can direct up to 18 seperate torpedoes, monitor over 300 contacts, and control all other automated ship functions at once. It is truly an asset to the fleet.
Whenever something that matches the characteristics of a submarine are picked up on sonar (propeller blades, nuclear reactor cooling systems, seismic activity, and the like), the contact is posted as a waypoint on the display. As the "Ryuou" continues, it constantly monitors the contact and compares any new characteristics gained to an internal database. The database is filled with every known sub and surface vessel on the planet, as well as aircraft most likely to pass over the ocean (heavy bombers, ASW helicopters, carrier-based aircraft, etc). The database can easily be updated via a secure MILSAT satellite download. If the contact continues to display submarine or surface vessel-like characteristics, a sonar focus can be performed. This sonar focus can more precisely "map" the contact out and begins comparing things such as hull-plate angles and propeller-screw blades to its database. This enables it to narrow down the list of possibilities. When a likely match (75%+) is found, it is displayed on the viewscreen. Depending on whether the contact is an allied or enemy design, the captain can then decide whether to hail it with the "Ryuou's" comprehensive communications package or to engage with the deadly complement of weapons at his disposal.
Normal complement of torpedoes is only 84 66mm torpedoes and 24 533mm torpedoes. To carry the maximum loadout of weapons (90 533mm rounds/156 66mm rounds) reduces the "Ryuou's" time at sea to less than 3 days. This results in a considerable performance loss and can only be accomplished by docking with a submarine tender near the target and taking on the additional weapons there. The maximum weapons load would likely only be used to shatter an enemy base or a fleet protected by several Destroyers and Cruisers, where the extra firepower is needed and stealth is likely to be compromised anyways.
A further variant of the "Ryuou" was recently unveiled, an extremely potent vessel called the "Tsunami"-class. Essentially a carrier variant of the "Ryuou", the "Tsunami"-class sacrifices much of its weaponry to carry a full squadron (6 vessels) of the extremely potent "Grampus" minisubs. Although her armament is reduced to only 2 533mm torpedo launchers, she retains the "Ryuou's" full complement of effective 66mm close-defense launchers, and the squadron of powerful "Grampus" submarines easily makes up for the reduction in armament. An advanced version of the ABTC system, the Mark.V, enables extremely efficient control of the "Grampus" complement. A small complement of 6 JAT-98N ADCAPs, the feared "Kalahoa" Nuclear Torpedoes, makes the "Tsunami" and her minisub complement a threat to any fleet.
Keep on the lookout for further submarine designs, including the proposed "GP3", "Narushio", and "Coback" classes! Thank you, and feel free to post your comments.

Hello again! Ancient Terra has produced yet another breakthrough in submarine technology. Utilizing information gained through exhaustive research and trials, the newest addition to the BLUE Fleet is sure to cause the enemies of SR Control to sit up and take notice.
Without further ado...
Ancient Terra, in conjunction with Sea Dragons Inc., is proud to present the "Grampus"-class SSM, an incredibly advanced minisub designed for combating much larger adversaries and emerging victorious. Millions of hours of research have gone into this diminutive vessel, and it looks as if that research has payed off.
The Grampus is an extremely versatile submarine, capable of taking on just about every role imaginable. The designation SSM stands for "Sub-Surface Miniature", and from preliminary testing good things do come in small packages. The "Grampus" is an American design, and will soon be joined by another US design, the classified "Coback". Information is as follows:

Weapons:
-224mm Underwater Torpedo Launcher
The 224mm Underwater Torpedo Launcher is the main weapon of the "Grampus" class SSM. Twin launchers are mounted on the submarine, one on each wing. To lower the sonar signature of the "Grampus", and to prevent seawater damage to the torpedoes inside, the launchers lie recessed inside of the "Grampus'" wings. When a target is selected, the launchers rise from the wings at a 30-degree angle which provides a clear field-of-fire for the torpedoes. Each launcher holds 7 torpedoes, and retracting the launcher back into the wing allows it to be reloaded by an innovative automated loader system mounted inside of the wing. The launcher is capable of pivoting 360-degrees, and the angle of the wing eliminates any chance of the torpedo misfiring upon launch and hitting the "Grampus". The 224mm Torpedoes are equipped with an extremely advanced sensor packet that allows them to engage a variety of targets with a 93% success rate. These targets include submarines, surface vessels, other torpedoes, countermeasures (noisemakers), and terrain formations. The torpedoes have an 8 mile range and achieve a maximum speed of 65 knots. Tipped with depleted-uranium and packed with high-explosive, repeated hits from 224mm torpedoes can bring down even the most advanced submarines (besides perhaps the BLUE Fleet). In addition, the torpedoes possess the LookShootGo(TM) ability, which is discussed further down.
-20mm Underwater-Capable Vulcan Cannon
The 20mm Underwater-Capable Vulcan Cannon is an extremely advanced new technology, straight from the mind of head scientist Morgan Evanar himself. Utilizing previously unheard-of tracking systems, and armed with specialized ammunition, the Vulcan Cannon could quite possibly be the most deadly secondary weapon ever devised. Twin 20mm's are mounted on the "Grampus", one on each of the protruberances near the front of the submarine. As with the 224mm Torpedo Launcher, the Vulcan Cannons are stored within the hull when they're not needed to reduce Sonar Signature and prevent corrosive damage. When needed, they deploy within 1.5 seconds. Each Vulcan Cannon is fed by an 800-round ammo drum. The ammunition for this gun is definitely not standard. Realizing that a powerful close-combat weapon was needed for the "Grampus" (just as the "Homeguard" 66mm torpedoes were needed for the "Ryuou"), engineers set to work devising an ammunition that is capable of working both above and below the surface. Each bullet is tipped with Depleted-Uranium and filled with a small amount of high-explosive. Mounted directly behind the explosives is a chemical propulsion unit, making the bullet in essence a small RPG. The propulsion unit, when combined with the Vulcan Cannon's high initial firing velocity and depleted-uranium tip, allows the bullet to punch through most armors. The guns themselves are mounted on gimbals, allowing them 360-degrees of rotation and the ability to even aim straight up. This unique ability allows the 20mm Vulcan Cannon to even shoot down low-flying aircraft such as Jump-Jets and Helicopters. The gun system is linked to the LookShootGo(TM) system, which is discussed below.
-Midline and Wing Hardpoints
The "Grampus" mounts several weapon hardpoints: one on each wing, and two on the center. These hardpoints allow the "Grampus" to carry an incredible variety of weaponry and equipment, and are the key to its versatility. A "Grampus" equipped with extra fuel tanks and ammo is capable of conducting long-range interceptor missions, while a "Grampus" fitted with a single 533mm torpedo can be utilized in a heavy assault role. The proposed conformal-carrying unit will enable the "Grampus" to transport up to 10 Special Forces. Likewise, the prototype subsurface radar system and capsule-encased JSM-14 surface-to-air missiles will allow a "Grampus" to destroy aircraft from the depths of the sea. In addition, the midline hardpoints allow the "Grampus" to carry the ultimate strike weapon: the JAT-98N ADCAP Nuclear Torpedo. This weapon is discussed below.
-LookShootGo(TM) System
This innovative system for the "Grampus" will drastically increase the effectiveness and efficiency of the submarine. The LookShootGo(TM) System is powered by a powerful supercomputer in the submarine. Several components go into this system, but they all combine to make the "Grampus" an instrument of death. LookShootGo(TM) integrates the sensors, weapons systems, crew, and the submarine itself into a seamless unit. A headset is worn by the pilot and gunner. It slips over one eye and includes a microphone, speaker, and an advanced visualization unit. The visualization unit projects the "Grampus'" vital information onto the pilot's canopy, and also includes voice control. By looking at a target on the canopy and saying "Acquire Target", the LookShootGo(TM) System will automatically lock onto the target, calculate a firing solution, provide friend-or-foe information, and, if desired, deploy the weapons systems. It also feeds the information to the torpedoes, enabling the user to fire the second they come within range. The LookShootGo(TM) System includes hundreds of other useful functions, including automatic warning systems and countermeasure deployment. If an incoming torpedo gets through the "Grampus'" exceptional countermeasure system, the Vulcan Cannons can automatically deploy, calculate the incoming torpedo's velocity and angle, and deliver an extremely accurate salvo from the 20mm Vulcan Cannon that will most likely destroy the incoming weapon. It's unlikely, however, that the countermeasures will ever be needed, seeing as how the "Grampus" can outrun and outdistance most modern torpedoes! It is easy to see why the LookShootGo(TM) System is touted as a genius design, and a critical component in the "Grampus" system.
-JAT-98N ADCAP Nuclear Torpedo, "Kalahoa"
The JAT-98N ADCAP Nuclear Torpedo was developed specifically for the "Grampus" submarine program. It is codenamed the "Kalahoa", from Ancient Terra's original islander culture, a name that was for the God of the Sea and War. This missile is designed for the ultimate scenario: A massive showdown between Ancient Terran and opposing navies. The missile is massive, at 633mm wide and over 8 meters long. Only a single JAT-98N ADCAP can be carried at one time, but it is very likely that one torpedo is all that will be needed. The JAT-98N ADCAP represents a drastic departure from normal torpedoes. Its propulsion is provided by a powerful rocket engine. The rocket engine propels the immense torpedo to speeds of 250+ knots. At such speeds normal guidance is impossible, as the extreme cavitation created by the rocket engine fouls any sonar readings taken by the torpedo itself. Terran engineers came up with a novel solution to the problem. A powerful broadcasting/recieving system was included in the JAT-98N ADCAP, as was a GPS locator. The "Grampus" submarine, with its exceptional sonar system, can pick up targets 35 miles away, or recieve targeting info from larger vessels. The JAT-98N ADCAP torpedo, by continually locating its own position via GPS and broadcasting it to the "Grampus" that launched it, can in turn recieve targeting information from the "Grampus'" own sonar system. This information relay means that accuracy is slightly affected, but with the JAT-98N's warhead, accuracy is irrevelant. The JAT-98N ADCAP mounts an 180 Kiloton Nuclear Warhead, which is capable of incinerating an entire Carrier Battlegroup in its wake. This immensely powerful weapon system makes the "Grampus" a very real threat in the event of a serious conflict.
NOTE: Ancient Terran Naval Command and/or Sea Dragons Inc. do in no way indicate their support for the use of nuclear weapons. The JAT-98N ADCAP should only be used in a serious situation, where the gains outweigh the losses.
Other notes:
The "Grampus" is designed to be carried by BLUE fleet vessels. The "Ryuou"-class SSN carries a single "Grampus" as standard, while two can be wedged aboard if it is necessary. Japan and Sea Dragons Inc. have been working feverishly on a specially modified "Ryuou"-class SSN that forfeits much of its weaponry to carry a full squadron of 6 "Grampus" submarines. This "Ryuou" is expected to be designated as an SSCN (For Sub-Surface Carrier, Nuclear) and will likely undergo a name change. Further submarines will also carry "Grampus" submarines, and although numbers have not yet been released, America insists that its new "Coback"-class will transport "a veritable swarm."
Note: The carrier-variant of the "Ryuou" has finally been unveiled! Equipped with an extra layer of armor, a complement of "Kalahoa" nuclear torpedoes, and the capability to transport 6 "Grampus" submarines (a full squadron!), the incredible "Tsunami"-class is unrivaled in capability, versatility, and power projection.
Thank you for visiting, and please feel free to add any compliments or suggestions for Ancient Terra! As always, keep on the lookout for new designs from Ancient Terra, Neo Garner, and the multitude of world leaders collaborating on the BLUE Fleet program.
