First Major Naval Project - The Arsenal ship

12-01-2004, 23:09
The Knights of Falmir are not high on trusting to the sea, however when we do build something.... we make it BIG.

The Arsenal ship is a massive and very expensive warship.

It has a displacement of about 500.000 Tons
It comes armed with a mix of Silos and missile launchers, actually 6000 of them. They are capabal of simultaniously launching 6000 missiles. And within six minutes they will be capabal of launching another salvo. Tell me what could stand firm against such might?

Altough the construction will take years. As will construction of its amunition as producing its full load of 30.000 Long range missiles of various kinds is no light task.

Simply firing this ship will cost in the numbers of Billions...

Nevertheless the project has begun of the first Arsenal Ship!

(This idea came from the book Invasion, its a very good book, really)

6000 missiles in one salvo? That is very difficult to believe. The real life arsenal ship has only 600 missiles max. The ship would have to be at least two miles long to carry all those missiles, not to mention the problems associated with having many missiles in one place (the firecracker effect. One lucky hit will destroy the ship!) Also, the ship would have to be nuclear powered, probably powered by 3 or more reactors. It is too big to be practical.

OOC: yes im quite aware, but my king is not so aware, what i is aware of is that its big and can shoot a lot:) its called roleplay you know, if you always assume your character simply knows whats best all the time, its no fun.
Also i building it more due to the fact that it was so cool in the book.

And its absolutely not godmode since ive just started building it.... and yes it is extremely long, i cant remember exactly how long.

I think i could put an intresting spin to any war actually, and i wont be fielding it RL for a few weeks. Snce its a multibillion dollar project.

And this ship would also probably be supported by most of our fleet as escort :P

HI, before you dismiss this idea entirely i would mention that you are unlikely to have noticed that when stating my military capacity i made reference a fe times to a "city ship" a shiip capable of supporting a community of pople in theory indefinatly, enough to be a city preferable. such a ship is buildable now if you had the budget of the military of course no comercial invester seems willing to invest in project like city ships space elevators and nuclear fusion. but on the subject such a ship would be capable of firing such a salvo, with luck. though i remain sceptical about the quantity of ammo that could be stored and the reload time for 6000 silos, oh and the sheer cost.

I'm agreeing with Facehuggeria here... way too big. The power required to move a ship the size of the Arsenal Ship would have to be enourmous... in order to make a modest speed of 30 knots, the 55,000 ton American Iowa-class battleships require their engines to supply 212,000 horsepower. That same horsepower would drive the Arsenal Ship at around 3 knots, if it's 500,000 tons. It's too impractical.

Well if your waiting for me to disagree well i wont.

Its big, pretty impractical and extremely costsam, however as ive stated ive taken the entire idea along with its performance stats from a book ive just read. And its a cool thing.

Anyway.

The vastly costly project has been cancelled in favour of KoF newly developed space program.
