High Tech Armies, lets see some imagination here!
OOC:Just thought I'd see about opinions on high-tech armies.
I don't want this to be an excercise in being a bastard! My own country has got shag-all population so I figured I'd go for a smaller, more inherently vicious formation I'd thought that it was within my capacity to feild about 60,000 combat troops. Since that, on looking at the mod's logistics excercise(Boy you must have had nothing to do!) I realise that it's a lot smaller than that, but I figure a specialised armoured formation is still possible.
In effect, I want this to be an fun idea/army building excercise for everyone, like I said, lets have some imagination, some history. I also think every super souped army should probably have some NEGATIVE ASPECT. But again, use yer noggin.
I'm hoping my own example will be a good one, if not, beat it!
OOC: Well the downside to almost any "High tech" army, Even like that of the US is that the more "High tech" your equipment is 2 things One the basic foot soldier needs more training, 2 The equipment needs more Maintance. That means time and in war time is critical. The key to having an effective high tech army, Is to make it as Simple as Possible for the Average grunt and to minimize the need for maintance. Which is why my armed forces use the H&K G-36 :) And the m-8 they need little Cleaning or maintance.

I don't care what future nations think, but more technology means more support, if you are going to have the most high tech guns in the world you have to take into account that these things cost recourses to upkeep (lets not even get into how much it costs to produce them in the first place, including R & D) and this upkeep is required most often for weapons that are more technological, because they have more that can go wrong with them.
Then we have more problems, you will need to educate people to be able repair these highly sophisticated weapons... they will probably have to be scientists to do so if your weapons are high tech... in which case you can't repair them on the field itself.
Basically, high technology costs and it needs alot of support... but you do reep the rewards for having superiour technology, unless you are too future tech, in which case I ignore it. I ignore nano-technology on principle... but I also ignore technology that allows you to throw away problems like logistics.
Yep i agree, Right now the USA's Army well i think it is a 1-3 Raito, So for every 1 combat soldier you need 3 men behind the lines to Support that man. With future tech, Imagine the kind of support needed for a ship 1 KM + Long O_o If it has a 10,000 Man crew probably 100,000+ people just for that one ship. i like Near future tech, some new cool stuff but still Relativly modern.
The Armed Republic Of Nazguul has had some success in their weapons tech program, which has already been in place for about 2 RL weeks.
Here is what they've come up with so far:
[code:1:201b3580e1]T-40 Urban “Plain Clothes” Armor
A truly unique breakthrough in body armor technology has been Reyex’s development of a mega-damage fiber that can be made into ordinary suits of clothing. This is ideal for government officials, ambassadors, businessmen and adventurers who seek mega-damage protection in ordinary walks of life. The most popular versions of the inconspicuous “plain clothes” armor is the businessman’s suit, jump suit, trench coat and outdoorsman’s pants and jacket. However, jackets jackets and vests are also available.
The more area of the body that’s covered, the greater the protection. All types utilize mega-damage polycarbonate fiber, thin, concealed, lightweight plates (strategically located) and padding. All “plain clothes” armor are fireproof, impervious to damage from small arms like handguns, and small automatic weapons fire, washable and hypoallergenic.
The “plain clothes” armor provides some degree of mega-damage protection in ordinary social situations, but they are far from the best armor available. They are not advised for use in combat situations.
Available Types Of “Plain Clothes” Armor
The high cost is indicative of the special concealed features, style, craftsmanship and the cost of the special manufacturing process.

Ok I am biggish, but I plan to move to post future tech soon.

Most future techies are very, VERY big, so they can afford the man power.
The Lord's armoured division recently replaced the entire land combat force of the armed republic of Aido.
Every member of the unit has been biologically enhanced with an experimental compound called psycho-plasm. The compound has also been used to significantly enhance the units weapons, vehicles and equipment.
When used to enhance equipment, it is capable of significantly increasing it's resiliance, as well as making weapons capable of firng enhanced ammunition. In the case of the Lords, this includes radioactive ammunition.
When used on the human body, the results are, to say the least, astounding. Affecting almost every cell in the body, psycho-plasm allows soldiers increased dexterity and unbeleivable strength. Also, given sufficiant quantity pumped directly into the body where it can diffuse into the cells, soldiers bodies are capable of regeneration.
The downsides are nonetheless alarming, the body, almost immediatly, becomes hooked, and since the compound is distilled from the bio-electric feild of the human body along with blood plasma, the effects once a soldier gets "dry" on the battlefeild are disturbing, POWs are treated as a food source, and civilians very much the same. Of the feild, such troops need to be kept in suspended animation. Also Battle psycosis becomes rampant, the soldiers almost always become totally addicted to killing.
The likes of the lunacy depicted in Veitnam films is nothing compared to this! Further, the material exudes dangerous chemicals toxic to those not already under it's influence. This unit has already been outlawed by the UN, and many formations are fearful to work alongside them.
OOC:Yes they also need a shitload of support too.
