Contract Offered for National Missile Defense System...

The Austar Union is currently offering contracts to any corporations to build a national missile defense system in our nation.

I want it to act as a protection against missile attacks. It must have a minimum of 90% efficiency.

bump.

Are THAAD and PAC-3 systems unable to be built?

The Layarteb Twin Towers Flight I Class coastal patrol boat can contain LEAP missiles (Standard SM-3) for ABM purposes. Secondly what are some range requirements of this system because I can easily procure one with the missile technology being used in Layarteb today.

Well my nation takes up the area and shape of RL Germany, Austria, The Czech Republic, and Poland. Add approximatly 50km and that is the area that I want to protect with my missile defense system. It must be able to destroy both conventional and nuclear missiles.

Wow that's pretty big. I hope you mean to cover this with mutliple sites rather than one site because that's massive amounts of range for a missile. It would have to be like four stages and such.

Yes, I am thinking multiple sites to help cover that area.

Okay good. Can you give me the approximate amount of land area of your country?

Well um, maybe about 500 000 sq km? The same as those nations listed above... rough guess...

K roger that we're looking at an area roughly 193,051.1 sq. mi (lol I use imperial but don't worry I don't mind converting). You're definitely going to need multiple sites of long range missiles. Let me do some math calculations here and I'll see what I can come up with as far as the number of sites and the advisable range for each site.

OK

Okay bare minimum is six sites with a range of 200 miles per site (321.8 km). I'd say just go for 10 - 12 to be safe. For that THAAD, bare minimum is 16 sites as it covers 125 miles per site (200 km). I can construct you a very good missile based on the THAAD, PAC-3, and LEAP that should have the range of 200 miles and the ability to hit the target and kill it with KE.

Give me not the minimum, but the recommended.

MIM-171A Piranaha (http://www.designation-systems.net/dusrm/app4/thaad.jpg)

Role: Theater Anti-Ballistic Missile
Length: 24.02 ft. (7.32m)
Finspan: 64.00 in. (1.62m)
Diameter: 16.17 in. (0.41m)
Weight: 3,250 lb. (1,474 kg)
Speed: 6,300 mph (10,138 km/hr or 2.81 km/sec)
Ceiling: 125 mi (201 km)
Range: 300 mi (482.8 km)
Area Coverage: 70,650 sq. mi (182,982.7 sq. km.)
Propulsion: 3 stage rocket design
Warhead: Hit-to-Kill + 200 lb. blast frag (90.7 kg)
Single-Shot Kill %: 95%
Guidance: Ground Base Radar
Cost: $10M [missile]; $80M [launcher w/ 6 missiles]; $400M [site w/ 4 launchers]
---------------------------------------
This site will allow you to have 2.73 sites (so round up to 3). I recommend double whatever the minimum is to be safe. It is good to overlap engagement rings to be honest. But what I would do is 2 facing north, 2 facing east, 2 facing west, 2 facing south, and 2 in the center. This would severely maximize your ability to defend everything. The sites not in the center would cover everything coming in and have the ability to stretch far inland as well. The center sites will overlap the engagement ranges of these as well so.

Alright. I will buy 6 sites. How much?
Layarteb
12-01-2004, 09:19
$2.4B but that's only with one salvo of missiles. Missiles are $8M each but in bulk they can be as little as $5.5M, which is just shy over the PAC-3 system.

And what will be the total efficiency? Give me a good salvo of missiles too.

Single-shot kill probability is 95% in testing. It engages as the missile comes terminal and the ground base system can triangulate the MIRV warheads to see if they are decoys or not, though this where you drop down to about 91.08%. The idea is to nail it before it separates the warheads (thus the insane velocity).

OK then. I will purchase 6 sites, with say 10 Missiles per launcher. That will give me 10 uses of each shouldnt it?
Layarteb

In the testing 20 missiles were fired and only one separated into MIRV.

Each launcher is 6 tubes so you might want 12 or 18, some number of 6.

6 sites: $2.4B
24 extra missiles (30 total): $192M

that comes to $2.592B for 6 sites and 30 missiles (6 being loaded alread)

Excellent. GL with htem. I'll give you 24 exta missiles per site at the cost of only one set as above for being the first customer. (i.e. the price above instead of including 24 extra missiles has 24 x 6 extra missiles)
