The Burnian News... coming to you at the speed of live. Here's your host, Ali Al-Quadaar!

AAQ: Hi everyone this is TBN the Burnian news network. Today our top story is the announcement of top scientists today that they are beginning work on a new space defence system (OOC: 1 month real world time). It is supposed to be able to repel attacks from space and repel space nation attacks. TBD has also suppossedly purchased 2 "Discovery" Explorer ships... no confermation on that.

Greater Yith, a spacefaring nation and a race that has come to this world from the stars, wishes to jointly research this space shield with the Burnsian Desert. Our scientists have knowledge of advanced space technology that could be put to good use on this project. We would both benefit from joint research.

Intresting, what, specifically would it be, and more importantly, how could your nations afford it, seeing as how you are both not very large.

I'm sorry to say, but for anyone to believe that you have a space defense system you'll need to either A) spend a lot more time on it, or B) make it out of cardboard.

Take me for example. I've been working on a space defense system for over 4 months now... and it still isn't finished. While it does encompass the entirety of my planet it would still take an extremely long time for a nation of your size to build anything substantial.

A shield of this type would probably be a gound-based collection of lasers mounted on fast-reaction robotic turrets. These would'nt have to be very large, but simply a dozen lasers on a single turret placed in circular position around the nation would suffice. The lasers would use radar targetting to lock onto an enemy vessel, missile or such and destroy it.

Utilising refraction mirriors and optical light arrays the lasers' power could be amplified, extending their ranges. Linking them to nuclear power plants would provide virtual limitless power supply.

Such a system would be quite cost-efficient.

But you nations are still to young to have nuclear anything. And, one of the major problems with lasers today is that the beam can be scattered by small pockets of different pressure air or dust, making the beam highly unstable. To get through the atmosphere and through any opposing space ship's shields/armor, it would require a humoungous laser generator with a lot of power. Probably more power than a nuclear power plant could provide. It would take at least a fusion power plant to generate that type of power.

Central Facehuggeria uses lasers for ballistic missile defense, and it takes a huge amount of money and power to operate. Each laser generator requires a fusion plant backed up by two auxiliary nuclear plants. This costs huge amounts of money. Not to mention that they cant really penetrate shields at all (need even more power!) so they suck against shielded vehicles. And since most Space nations have shields, then the lasers aren't that effective against them. That is why I rely on other means for defense against warmongeing space nations.

Now smaller, vehicle or personell lasers are much more feasable. For instance, our aircraft use point defense lasers as standard equipment. Our infantry use pulse laser rifles as well. (Although if we are fighting a modern opponent who doesn't want to fight future tech, we can use more primitive weapons)

we would also wish to participate in this project, as well as remind TBD that we have been trading with them for the malichaen bacterium energy source, now being called MBES, and we will gladly provide any energy supplies required.

Christ, they're all 1 day old n00bs! Jesus, what does that suggest?

He's right. If you intend on building ANYTHING for defense within the next RL month, plan on buying an immense amount of cardboard and duct tape, or get a MUCH older, MUCH more experienced nation, such as Eastern Bloc or myself, to help you.

"Mass Drivers are much more effective. We have been analyzing our region's defence-net and believe we may be able to assist in most aspects of the system."

I will provide plasma technology, but it isn't perfect. An immense amount of funding has gone into it, over 500 billion in the last few RT days, but it's plasma generators don't require much, only a small nuclear power plant will do. Just don't use it much or it will melt down. As I said, It is still new tech. So be careful.

EASA is very interested in this project but disagrees with the projected construction time. Even our top scientists working on a project similar to this are still at a standstill as to how to work it effectively. We ask that this not be rushed and that you plow more money into researching this project. EASA would be glad to lend assistance. We place the projected completion of scientific theory in 40 years (say 4 rl months) and then a construction time of at least 20 rl years (at least another 2 rl months.) Do you agree?

We shall not move to your region for reasons beyond our control. However, we will continue to aid with this shield and, ask that with a further 20 years construction that it be extended over TKOTM (the Kingdom of the Midlands) for security reasons. Is this acceptable - John Burnstein, EASA CEO

Yes, but this research will still be used on our region.

We hope that the research will be faster due to our scientists working jointly. To lessen misunderstandings, lets use your system of measurement.

It costs 4.5 Billion dollars to build a Carrier... so you may need to invest alot more then that for a super exspensive new technology...

hehehe, the remmonlands already have an orbital defense system.

it consists of 120 MASER satelites (each with a fusion generator and 2 plasma batteries) and a research/control/combat station, equipped with 12 MASERS, 2 fusion reactors and 8 plasma batteries as well as an experimental directed fusion weapon.

we obtained the fusion reactors from a friend space-tech nation (taka), we obtained rockets for launching the satelites a while back from another nation, we developed MASERs with enough power ourselves.

we would gladly share our chemical or electrical lasers for the purpose of this space defense system
