Tank upgrade for sale!

10-01-2004, 16:40
The joint defence industries of Nordea have come up with an upgrade package for the old T-72M1 tanks still in service in the NDF equipping second-line tank formations. The modernization is meant to improve the performance of the tank and lenghten its lifetime, keeping it operational even on the modern battlefield.

The Nordean Parliament has decided that, in order to gain extra funding for the government's ongoing military equipment standardization programme, the package will be offered for export for suitable foreign clients.

The package consists of multiple parts, described below. All of them have been designed and manufactured by domestic companies under government supervision.

The package includes:
- A new Bofors fire control and target acquisition system. It is an improved version of the system fielded in Finnish T-55M tanks in the pre-federation days. This system should increase the accuracy and range of fire to a level equal to more modern western tanks, namely Leopard 2A4 and M1 Abrams.
- Modern radio and C3I equipment comparable to those in Leopard 2S. The system has been developed by Nokia-Ericsson.
- Electro-optical warning and counter measures system by Nokia-Ericsson. The system distracts incoming ATGMs and jams electronic targeting systems and laser range finders. It also features a laser warning system.
- An upgrade and maintenance kit for tank's gear, suspension, drive-train and main gun autoloader by Patria-Hägglunds increases reliability and decreases crew fatigue and probability of injuries.

The price for one kit is 80.000 €. Thus, upgrading an average tank armada (100+ tanks) will cost less than 10 million!
The system can also be modified to fit T-55, T-62 and T-64 tanks, for an extra payment of 20.000 € per kit.

Note: As per request of the parliament, the package cannot be offered to warmongering nations, brutal dictatorships or countries with alarming civil rights situation.

Note: The Ministry of Defence has decided of a minimum amount of 10 kits for each individual order. This does not apply possible orders for testing/trial purposes.

The NDF's upgraded T-72M1 tanks were reviewed in an article in the latest Military Goon's Weekly magazine, known for its credible expert analysis' on world's military equipment and ordinance.

Excerpt:
"The work the engineers and designers have done on the modernization of these tanks is truly something to be in awe at. The improvement over the standard T-72M1 is significant at the least. For example the new Bofors fire control system - whose predecessor proved its worth in the upgraded T-55M tanks - is a stunning piece of equipment. With it the tank not only gains more accuracy and thus lethality to its fire, but the gunner's workload is also decreased to just a portion of what it used to be. This shortens the time between target acquisition and firing - something which may be decisive between life and death on the battlefield. What comes to the accuracy of the main gun, it is now close to that of the Leopard 2A4 tanks in service in the NDF. Having served his military service as a Leopard 1A5 gunner, the author knows the importance these factors can have in a heated tank battle between otherwise even adversaries.
-- The new warning and counter-measures system provided by Nordea's state company Nokia-Ericsson is another aspect where the upgrade proves its worth. Older wire-guided or heat seeking ATGMs fail constantly when faced by the T-72s now sporting the new protective system. Even newer anti-tank missiles, both western and eastern models, have a hard time hitting the tank in situations where the counter-measures system can work at its full capacity. And the importance of an effective laser-warning system needn't to be emphasized to our well-informed readers.
-- Last but not least, the tests performed by the MGW review team themselves show that the improvements done on the mechanicals of the tank greatly increase the vehicles battle durability by reducing crew fatigue and improving their effectiveness. Presumably they also reduce the need for maintenance and lenghten the servicing intervals."

You got 16 Milion People And that good tanks already?!!

OOC: That good tanks?! C'mon, it's still T-72M1 were talking about. And since the nation represents a federation of Finland, Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Iceland, those tanks (not too numerous btw) were "inherited" from Finland. And even with the upgrade they are by far inferior to Leopard 2S.

I'd order this but all of my T72s and T64s(which are better then the T72) were replaced with T80s, which are now upgraded to T80UM3 standard. We're also debating whether to add a T90 variant to our tank groups.
