The Northern Socialist Pact of Red Scandinavia
Currently an inoffensive centrist democracy, the Northern Socialist Pact of Red Scandinavia has undergone many changes since the RL year 2000. A little timeline:
2000 AD: Velvet Revolution in Denmark! Voting attendance bumps with 25%, and voters flee from the much-despised coalition of conservative/neo-conservative/nationalist parties in government. The end result gave 59% of votes to hardline eco-marxist party Enhedslisten("Unity List"), 21% to democratic socialist party Socialistisk Folkeparti("Socialist People's Party"), 10% to reformist social-democrats Socialdemokratiet("The Social Democracy"), and only 10% went to the old conservative and nationalist parties in power, and even they had to share it with radicals, christian democrats and others. The current government, in a serious case of shock, revealed it's(always thinly veiled) borderline fascist tendencies, and requested a revote on counts of foul play. Severe riots ensued, ending with the burning of large parts of Folketinget, the national parliament. The parliament was eventually officially dissolved, and a revolutionary council oversaw the rebuilding of the parliament building as well as setting up a forum for governmental debate in the meantime. Two weeks later the parliament was reinstated, the original votes dictating how the government should be formed. Communism did not seem within reach, yet...
2004 AD: Sweden and Norway give up constitutions and monarchism, urges Denmark to do the same! Heartened by Danish success, Swedish communists point to Denmark as an example of how authoritarianism has done nothing good for the Scandinavian people. Eventually they win the elections, dissolve parliament and depose their leaders. With Denmark in transition to marxism, and Sweden a socialist republic, communistic sentiment runs strong in Norway, and the great northern country eventually deposes the ailing King Harald, their democratic government, and turns into a hardline marxist state. Denmark, a nation of strong democratic tradition remains a democracy for now, but the current parliament(Renamed the Central Communal Council) realizes that their sibling nations are willing to forgive old hatred and create a strong socialist union that, as one country, will be a major power in Europe... The people's support for communism is stronger than ever, and a full transition to marxist socialism does appear close at hand.
