Kormanthor Discovers Huge Alien Star City

KNBC Breaking News Bulletin

(Slowly the Logo of KNBC disappears and a very beautiful, yet professional looking young woman appears standing in front of a large bay window from within a great Starship.

PileDriver Class Starship Silencer

Outside the ship in the depths of space framed by the window is the huge asteroid complex that is called Asterkore . The camera pans to one side of the young lady, then zooms in on a ship just inside the mighty Command Centers Repair Facility
where the horrendous damage it suffered is still being repaired by men in spacesuits
as well as repairbots. Then you hear the voice of the young lady start to speak….)

Good Afternoon Ladies & Gentlemen this is Tabitha Ginnings reporting for KNBC News from the PileDriver Class Starship Silencer.

http://usera.imagecave.com/Kormanthor/Kormanthor2/distantfutureship.jpg
UKS KorIncursion

Today a spokesman from Kormanthor Space Command / Asterkore Division told this reporter that during its last tour of exploration duty in deep space three months ago the UKS KorIncursion, the ship you are now seeing, a new prototype starship, (Built by Kormanthor & VirginIncursion here at Asterkore as a joint venture) with the ability to mask its true form through the use of millions of exterior holographic emitters and secret new cloaking technology discovered a “Huge Alien Star City”; a City they are calling The Lost City Of The Stars or just “The City”.
The location of said “Star City” was not revealed to this reporter, however it was described as a Huge City setting atop a Powered Disk with no visible means of holding in an atmosphere. This would suggest that either the technology of their atmospheric cover is beyond our understanding or that they don’t need an atmosphere. The “Dimensions of
The City” were described as Fourteen Hundred Miles in Diameter and Three Hundred Miles at the top of the tallest building.
The power readings from “The City” was off any known scale of humanoid reckoning, and of a type never before encountered. It was also said that the KorIncursion
narrowly escaped being destroyed by the City’s defenses. The cloaked sensor drones sent in to investigate from a closer range were easily destroyed. As were a dozen sensor ghost drones that KorIncursion released as a diversionary tactic during their escape.
Asterkore Scientist are working around the clock in accordance with Allied
Scientist to attempt to learn more of” The City” from the KorIncursions sensor logs, but,
they say it could be a very long time before we can gain understanding of all the
information gathered. Tomorrow KNBC will interview the Captain of this stricken, but slowly mending vessel.

Captain Of The Stricken KorIncursion
Grants KNBC An Exculsive Interview

KNBC Breaking News Report

(Slowly the Logo Of KNBC disappears, but this time a very handsome, unquestionably professional middle aged man appears sitting in what appears to be the
Captains Ready Room.
A Holographic Model of the KorIncursion is depicted as it continuously changes its form into other types of ships and even various space bodies decorates the Exterior Bulkhead behind the Captains Huge Walnut Desk. A Walnut Plaque with Gold Letters above the model details the ships mission;” To Explore The Mysteries Of The Universe & Beyond For The Good Of All Mankind”.
Across the desk from him a very distinguished looking, middle aged gentleman wearing the standard command gold shirt with ship emblem embroidered on its left upper chest area sits behind his desk with a cool, determined look on his face and an air of authority premeating the entire room. Then you hear the reporters voice start to speak…)

Good Morning Ladies & Gentlemen this is L. Ross Hartford the III reporting for
KNBC News from the Captains Ready Room of the KorIncursion.
Today we have been granted permission by Fleet Admiral Gwendilynne Danevai herself to speak to the KorIncursions Captain; Stefano Loughridge about their experience at “The City”. * Stefano what kind of name is that! *

( L. Ross Hartford turns from facing the camera, to face Captain Loughridge as the camera pans around to include both men in the picture.)

Good Morning Captain Loughridge, we are glad that you were able to bring this
fine ship back in one piece. Can you share with our television audience the events of that
Fateful day, when you discovered “ The Lost City Of The Stars.”
* D### look at this office! Captains Ready Room MyA##, looks more like a emperors throne room. I knew I should have attended Kor Academy instead of Essemsbra State University *

Certainly Mr. Hartford, It was mid-afternoon ship time, alpha shift or day shift bridge crew were just about to be relieved by beta / second shift. We had just successfully traversed a stable wormhole we had discovered and had been pulled into by unexpectantly strong gravimetric forces that overwhelmed us suddenly. When we emerged from the wormhole we were surprised when the navigator said we had just traveled from our galaxy to the outer edge of what scientist call The Orion Arm of the Universe, which includes everything within five thousand light years of Sol.

Please excuse the interruption Captain, but that’s Extraordinary, totally Unbelievable! That's a Tremendous Distance! Hundreds of Light Years isn’t it Captain?

(Captain Loughridges face at first seems to darken with carefully controlled anger, and then quickly changes to a friendly smile so quickly it makes you wonder if the anger was ever truly there.)

Quite so Mr. Hartford it was a tremendous distance, actually it was nearly Four Thousand Five Hundred Light Years to be more exact! Now if I may I will continue.
* How do people like this blow hard get these jobs? He’s dumber than a rock, but the Admiral made it clear that I was to show KNBC’s representative every courtesy, Why Me? *

Oh Yes, Please do Captain! By all means continue this is just so exciting.
* Boring overstuffed old fart *

As I was saying, we had just emerged from the wormhole and realized where we were by checking our star maps against our position. As fantastic as the distance we traveled was, it was only the first of many fantastic things we were to encounter during
our Outer Edge Adventure as I call it..

I’m sorry Captain, but I wasn’t aware we possessed star maps of the Universe that far out? Sense your ship was in fact the first & possibly the only one that will ever go there.
Yes Mr. Hartford I understand your confusion, you see until now this information has been Highly Classified. During the first exploration mission of the Celestial Dragon,
we found what might be called a starships graveyard. The Star Maps of which I speak were acquired from one of those derelict vessels, as was other still highly classified materials and technology. * Like I said, dumber than a rock! Doe’s this guy do his homework before an assignment? *

(Just then the door chime is activated from the Bridge just outside the Captains Ready Room, then the door slides open to reveal Christine McGrath 1st Officer of the KorIncursion.)

What is it Number One? * I’m really glad Christine has finally fully healed, she is the best 1st Officer anyone could ask for *

Sorry about the intrusion Captain, however I thought you might like to know the
Central Computer is finally back online now Sir. * Captain Loughridge is so cute for a man his age. *

Thank You Number One, Please give me access to all pertinent logs of the mission at “ The City”. You are dismissed Number One. * Great! Now I can show the idiot what happened instead of trying to explain it to him *

Yes Sir, Thank You Sir. * He never seems to get rattled either. *

Well Mr. Hartford you are indeed fortunate. We are now able to show you and your audience the ships recorded logs from our mission at “ The City “. * Thank the Good Lord above *

That’s Great News Captain, Thank You Very Much! * Wow, that 1st Officer is a major Babe! *

(The KNBC Camera pans around to where a section of the inner bulkhead starts to open.
Slowly the section of the inner bulkhead slides back disappearing into the interior of the bulkhead to reveal a large screen. The lights dim automatically, and then a picture flickers into life on the screen showing the Bridge of the KorIncursion.
The Captain sits in the center seat; the bridge crews are at their stations on the outer perimeter. On the ships navigational screen a fantastic sight can be seen, a starship traversing a stable wormhole and emerging far from home.

Well that was quite an experience; check our position against those new star charts, Mr. Bisley. * Wow what a rush, wouldn’t get to experience stuff like that anywhere but in the Star Fleet *

Aye, Aye Sir (Pause w/ computer sounds, Then) Oh my God, THIS IS IMPOSSIBLE!!!! * You must be putting me on, these readings can’t be right *

Easy Son, just tell me what you’ve discovered. * Rookies *

Sir according to these readings we have just traveled nearly Four Thousand Five Hundred Light Years! We are in the far northwestern quadrant of what is commonly referred to as The Orion Arm of the Universe, which includes everything within five thousand light years of Sol. * MAINTAIN! Got to Maintain! Keep calm! Give the Captain the information he needs even if I don’t believe it. *

GOOD LORD!!!………Thank You Mr. Bisley; Mr. Nordeck is the wormhole still stable? * Nearly Five Thousand Light Years in seconds! I need to get all the information possible on this! Also check for possible dangers *

Checking Sir………Yes Sir, no change at all. * Amazing, a honest to goodness stable wormhole *

Thank You Mr. Nordeck, now please run a long ranged scan. *

Aye Sir! * Even now Caps as cool as a cucumber *

Well Ladies & Gentlemen, I believe we have just made a major discovery, record and catalog all pertinent information to the wormhole under codename: Stafano’s Star.
The location of this find is now classified” eyes only” on a need to know basis as judged by Admiral Danevai. * Yes! Immortally, Fame & Fortune, finally something important that I can name after me! Hello Admiralty here I come! *

Ms. Valterra ready a Class One Communications Buoy, include all ships & captains logs to this stardate. Program it to go back through the wormhole to the old neighborhood & relay that information to Asterkore via subspace.

Yes Sir, I’m working on it now. * This is BIG, this is Huge. I must include a message to the Hive Directorate. Can’t allow Kormanthor to possess this information exclusively. *

Sir I am reading Four Super Star Destroyer sized ships that seem to be acting as the defense perimeter for something very big just at the limit of the long-range sensors.
.* My God look at the size of those ships & what in the name of sam hill are they guarding *
Their Sensor readings are sporadic at best however, can’t seem to get a permanent lock on them. * Weird *
Sir there is a Class D Nebula about three quarters of the way there.
* He can’t seriously be thinking about sneaking in there *
They haven’t scanned us as yet, but I recommend a defensive posture nonetheless. * How fast could they be anyway? We should be able to outrun them easy enough. But I have a really bad feeling about this *

Not just yet Mr. Nordeck; activate the HoloShield to reflect space; activate the Remus Class Cloaking Device; standby on the Phantom Cloaking Device; Keep sensors
on passive mode. * Lets see if we can make it past those d##### ships we could use the nebula for cover with we gather as much information as possible. Then with the New Phantom Cloaking Device they couldn’t touch us! But I can’t use it to soon, it’s power consumption is astronomical *

< Attention all crew members; the ship is now at Red Alert, I say again the ship is now at Red Alert ; Report to your Battlestations immediately. > < Bridge to Engineering, Chief we have possible hostile ships inside our theater of operation. We may have to make a quick exit . Captain Out! > < Aye, Aye Captain, Engineering Out >

(Red Alert Alarms start sounding lasting for thirty seconds, then the alarms shut off, leaving only the Red Alert lights flashing. Then the bridge lights change from white light to soft red lights too).

Sir the Class One Communications Buoy has just launched captain; it’s entering the wormhole now. * It’s a good thing I sabotaged the there d##### Phantom Cloaking Device before I came on duty today. Hehe *

Thank You Ms. Valterra

Your Welcome Sir * No, Thank You Captain! Soon you will be destroyed & I will be a legendary martyr at the Hive *

Mr. Mimura, Full Impulse on a direct heading towards the center of the
Patrolled Zone. *

Aye Aye Captain, engaging impulse now. * Here we go *

Mr. Nordeck keep a close eye on those ships and feed all sensor information directly into the Helm & Navigational Consoles. I want to know if they want to sneeze, before they feel it coming on . If we can make it unseen to that nebula we should be able to investigate this area from the relative safety of its cover.

Aye Sir

Sir as 1st Officer I don’t recommend this course of action. Class D Nebula’s are in and of themselves extremely dangerous to humanoid life. Never mind the ships, just one of those ships out there undoubtedly out gun us on a massive scale. Add the fact that we are an extreme distance from any hope of help should we need it, we would most likely be
out of luck.

Number One I am well versed in the dangers of Class D Nebula’s it was mandatory reading at Kor Fleet Academy. I believe that our up graded shields will protect us long enough to get the information we need. Now as far as the threat that
those ships represent to this ship. On my authority I have weighed the possible technological gains against the threat & have deemed it worth the risk!

Captain it’s my duty as your 1st Officer to point out opposing viewpoints & make recommendations.

YES!……… Number One it is… consider your viewpoints & recommendations dually noted, Thank You.
Ms. Valterra please tie in the ships computer & the new univeral translator to your communications console. I need you to closely monitor all known types of communication, as well as all channels of each type. Maybe we can get enough of there
Ship-to-ship communications so the computer can begin to understand their language.

(Thirty minutes pass without incident, even though two of the patrol ships in question pass relatively close to the KorIncursion as she passes through their patrol area)
(Back in the Milky Way Galaxy the Class One Communications Buoy has exited the wormhole & is transmitting the KorIncursions fantastic message to Asterkore Space Command.

Who immediately forwards it to Admiral Gwendilynne Danevai aboard
the UKS Silencer; The PileDriver Class Flagship of the Second Kor Fleet.
Immediately she orders the Silencer along with its fleet of Millenium Class Battleships, Various Escort Ships, KorAMRD SuperCarriers & three hundred thousand plus star fighter squadron to the wormholes coordinates.)
About the same time the Second Fleet arrives at the wormhole coordinates the KorIncursion enters the dark soupy mist like environment that is the Vesmnyth Dark Nebula.)

Mr. Nordeck; reset the HoloShield emitters to mimic the Nebula’s Environment.
* I hate it when Christine is does that! Am I doing the right thing? The possibility for technological advancement, even superiority could be very important to Asterkore Command. On the other hand the danger is very real, we must stay on top of things if this mission is to succeed *

Aye Captain, resetting now

(Fifteen More Minutes pass)

Mr. Mimura when we clear the other side of the nebula, stop us just outside the nebula effects zone but close enough that we would appear to be a part of that environment.

Aye, Aye Captain, we will reach the nebula’s outer boundary in thirty seconds.

(As the disguised KorIncursion breaks through the boundary of the nebula a wondrous sight fills the navigational screen. A Monstrously Huge City setting atop a Powered Disk with no visible means of holding in an atmosphere, proudly floating in the depths of space as though born for it!)

My God the Dimensions of that City are Fourteen Hundred Miles in Diameter and Three Hundred Miles at the top of the tallest building. The power readings from it are off all our scales, and is of a type we have never before encountered. Even the information from the ships graveyard file doesn’t mention anything like this Captain!

Yes Mr. Nordeck, This is definitely the major find of our century. Good Lord the technological advances alone are unfathomable. We’re going to need some very special probes for this mission.

Most definitely Sir! < Bridge to Engineering> < Engineering here Captain> < Chase I need Twelve Class One Probes w/ Remus Cloaking Devices & Twelve of the new HoloShield Class Probes ready to Launch ASAP. >

< That will take at least four hours Captain >

< Chase I need them two hours max., pull who ever you need from their normal duty stations I don’t care, but just get it done! I don’t want to get caught with our pants down out here the middle of nowhere. Captain Out! >

< I understand Captain; we’ll get it done sir. Chief Engineer Out >

Mr. Nordeck try to find any kinks in their armor as best as you can using passive mode sensors only.

Aye Sir

(Two hours later to the second)

< Chief Engineer to Captain, your probes are ready to go sir. >

< Great Job Chase, I’m putting you in for a raise. >

< Thank You Sir, but I had a lot of help. I’ll have recommendations of my own for each of them on your desk at the end of this mission. Chief Engineer Out >

Mr. Nordeck launch the all the probes now.

Aye Sir

(Silently through the use of the new thought activated control system
Matthew Nordeck communicates his wish for launch to start to the central computer which launches the probes.)

Launching all twenty-four probes now captain their cloaking devices are activated & they are running true on their individual preset courses captain.

Thank You Mr. Nordeck

(Six Remus Class & Six HoloShield Class Probes are sent to investigate the city itself, the other Twelve are sent to investigate the perimeter ships. All probes immediately start sending information back to the KorIncursion, detailing everything possible about their individual targets, including the name of two of the guarding ships which is “ Amauroche ” & “ Metheral “).
Each bridge crew member watches the segmented navigation screen with a growing sense of foreboding which becomes more & more pronounced within their gut with each passing second.)

We’re receiving intelligence normally from all probes Captain.

Good Job Mr. Nor …

CAPTAIN WE JUST INTERCEPTED A SHIP TO SHIP MESSAGE AND A SHIP TO CITY MESSAGE. THEY HAVE DETECTED OUR PROBES.

Thank You Ms. Valterra

Mr. Nordeck can you confirm

Confirmed Captain, we are losing intelligence reports from the probes one by one!
O.K. People the jig is up. Mr. Bisley lay in a circular course back to the wormhole keeping the Nebula and any other cover you kind find between us &
those ships & the city.

Mr. Nordeck reset the HoloShield to reflect space

< Bridge to Engineering this is the Captain, Chase we’re going to need every little bit of power your engines can muster mister. >

< Engineering to Bridge, Full Power Available in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1…NOW! >

Plotted & laid in sir

Mr. Mimura get us out of here Emergency Trans Warp Speed Now!

Trans Warp10 in one minute Captain; SlipStream Drive will kick in automatically at Warp after that happens I estimate arrival at wormhole in 1.5 minutes.

Thank You Mr. Mimura

Mr. Nordeck what’s those ships up to?

The Amauroche is on an intercept course captain! Metheral is following although it is much farther away. The other two ships are staying near the city. I hope we live long enough to get a look at that intelligence information! Their engines & power source are unbelievable, they will over take us in forty-five seconds sir at present speed! Activating defensive shields & all weapons now sir!

Mr. Nordeck fire four spreads of Quantum Torpedoes from the aft torpedo launchers maybe that will discourage him!

Aye Sir! Torpedoes Away!…………………………… DIRECT HIT SIR! But his shields are still at ninety-five percent! Dang, they didn’t even slow him down!

He’s powering up his weapons, and they are plasma based sir!

Maximum Power to Shields Mr. Nordeck, Warp Powered Phasers, All Banks & Continuous Quantum Torpedo Spreads Fire At Will!

Aye, Aye Sir FIRING!

Multiple direct hits Sir, but his shields are still at eighty percent.

HE’S FIRING HIS WEAPON SIR………………… INCOMING!

(At more then three times the speed of KorIncursion, a bluish white plasma fireball streaks across space engulfing her entirely. Inside the ship blue white fire can be seen jumping from console to console. The weapons console EXPLODES into a rain of
fire cascading down upon everyone on the bridge. And sends the entire bridge crew flying in different directions each landing across the room from where they had originally been, usually with sickening thuds that no one hears. The seen is much the same all over the ship.
Suddenly the KorIncursion drops out of Warp slowing to sublight speeds just as she reaches the entrance of the wormhole and enters still following her original course. The Cities Starship veers off on a heading back to the city.
By the time she emerges into the Milky Way Galaxy to meet the Second Fleet KorIncursion is a nearly powerless, broken, smoking, pitched forward hull where a proud starship was moments before.)

I was recently looking at the Kormanthors story about the "Lost City Of The Stars". It had a nice plot about a space odyssey involving a ship of Kormanthors Space Command travelling to a far off corner of the local universe. I couldn't stop myself from reading this story. If you like space adventures, then this is the place to be. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and would recommend it on the highest of scales.
