16 slots open, 6 on the pirate side, with 10 on the good side.

I'm a modern-tech nation, but I'd be glad to RP the "good guy" in this. :) Do I need to have one character alone or what?
05-01-2004, 05:41
I'll join, this is an independent RP right?

Ok, you need one Charector, the rest of your ship will be your "crew" that you can order around.

I'll join, this is an independent RP right?
Yes, it is. Which side would you like?

Yes, it is. Which side would you like?

My name has the word "corsair" in it. If you can't figure out by that what side I'm on, then we may need a new host for this RP.

Anyhow, I think I'll RP as Captain William Kidd. We can use RL pirates, correct?
05-01-2004, 05:48
Well, yes.
05-01-2004, 05:49
Well, yes.

Good, good. I'll have to get to work on brainstorming a name for my ship, but the last time I tried brainstorming all I got was a light drizzle. :?
05-01-2004, 05:52
Lol, if you don't want to, you don't have to. We'll only have 2-3 ships
05-01-2004, 05:57
Lol, if you don't want to, you don't have to. We'll only have 2-3 ships

I'm thinking either Demogorgon or Marduk as the ships name. :P
05-01-2004, 05:59
Marduk
Sounds good.
05-01-2004, 06:00
Marduk
Sounds good.

I thought so. I wouldnt use that for a ship outside this RP though, because its already the name of my largest coastal city and harbor. Not that that means I couldnt use it as a ship name, but I can find other names to mix it up a bit.
05-01-2004, 06:31

OOC: Um... Brittania, a merchant having three frigates is kind of out of ordinary... The Royal Navy wouldn't sell you vessels, unless the vessels are antiques
Old Brittania
05-01-2004, 16:53
there are antiques,
but there big antiques,

my shipping here will be low key, its main goal is to keep the cargo ships safe, and back in the 1700's some merchants did buy huge vessals usualy from the decreasing spanish fleet to guard there cargo, or their armed there cargo ships

as i said its up to you lot, i am determined to play so i am quite willing to skip this storyline and make myself another one lol. whatevers best :)

SUNDAY MORNING SOUTHAMPTON:1700's

Captain Peater Wilson strolled aboard his new flagship the Donner and slid his gloved hand over the polished wood gently. He glanced out towards the sea and took a deep breath then bellowed, "stow tha guns below decks! every man to his place cos in a limited time we gonna be puttin tha blasted pirates in theirs", cheers and wistles came from the crew, Wilson nodded and gesterd them into quietness with his hand.
By midafternoon Donner was ready to set sail but Wilson had to await Commodore Crusades order to be sent over on the account he was leading the fleet with the beautiful but deadly frigate HMS Triumph, Donner simply had 38 guns aboard most of which were 20Pdr's with afew long nines,a newly commissioned ship which flew colors of the royal navy. Wilson was very proud he was chosen for the task of commandering this fine vessel.
Ryanania
06-01-2004, 00:25
Captain Ryan "Deadeye" Wilson
Brown hair
Green eyes
5'11"
210 lbs
Built

Wilson was an Irishman who turned pirate, rather than root for potatoes in a bog, while under British oppression. How he started out is shrowded in mystery.
Ship: Seawolf. 3 decks, 92 24 lb. guns, mahogany hull, Man O' War. Good speed, poor acceleration, very poor maneuverability. Ship was captured from a French shipyard at night. Wilson recieved a tip that the ship had just been finished, was fully stocked, and had not recieved a crew yet. Wilson had his partner, Captain Bill Marlinespike attack the opposite side of the fort while he swooped in from the rear and boarded the Man O' War, abandoning his old ship. The minimal number of guards on the ship surrendered immediately (hehehe). As predicted, the French garrison commander was reluctant to turn the fort's guns on the brand new French ship. Rather, the French captains of the smaller ships in the harbor chased after Wilson-- they all ended up at the bottom. In the end, Wilson had escaped, with the ship sustaining relatively minimal damage. Unfortunately, he never found out what happened to Bill Marlinespike.
06-01-2004, 01:00
Crookfur, I'm assuming you are a Good guy.

Five Civilized Nations, Looks good

Old Brittania, ok, but you can only have one ship* (See below)

Ryanania, sounds fine.

*NOTE TO EVERYONE: We will only be having 3 Pirate ships and 5 Good guy ships. Everyone will have a ship, but they might be first mate.
06-01-2004, 01:08
The fearsome Marduk WILL be one of those three, now won't it? :P
06-01-2004, 01:10
Well, check the first post ;)
06-01-2004, 01:29

I'm thinking the Marduk should follow typical corsair style, a smaller, lightly armed ship that is blindingly fast. The other two could fill other roles.

Aboard the Donner everything was ago, Wilson paced back and forth on the stern still no word had came from Commodore crusade about departue, what was worse he was getting impatient, " what is the time leiutennet" Wilson asked a red coated soldier leaning on the wheel, "half past 6 sir, we are losing daylight fast". Wilson inspected the leiutennets pocket watch, "bloody hell,i have never been late for anything as important as this" he then paused and turned to his first mate Donald Lockly and ordered"raise anchor direct us to the north, without any more ships accompanying us we will have to take precausions, guns on deck powder and shot close by", Lockly nodded and issued the orders to the crew.
The anchor was hoisted up and the ship leaving the harbour flags fluttering in the strong wind," err..sir, i do not have a good feeling, these winds blow bad luck", Wilson turned right around, " o come now donald a good wind starting out means good luck you're daft haha" he grinned, Lockly just gazed out at the sun disappearing on the horizon,"oi hope so sir, we don't needa handle none of them buckeneers alone". Wilson grinned " no worrys Donnie".

07-01-2004, 08:01
Calagar was running as fast as he could he had just received orders last night from headquarters that he was to report to the HMS DONNER in the morning. He however had been visiting some friends before he was to report and had spent too much time saying goodbye. He could see the ship at the jetty he got there just in time to grab onto the railing, a sailor aboard noticed the hands and pulled him up. He asked for the Captain the sailor pointed to the man standing at the aft of the ship Calagar hurried over and told the Captain he had orders to report to The Donner. The Captain introduced himself as Peater Wilson and said “glad to have you aboard, I’m sorry your name is?” Calagar Lysander sir and I am glad to be aboard. Ah I see here you are to be my first mate. Yes Sir replied Calagar.

OOC:all for now
07-01-2004, 08:08

Commodore Alexander Crusade paced the deck of his new vessel, the HMS Triumph, a powerful fifty-six gun fast attack frigate. Silently, he thanked the Admiralty for switching him to this vessel. His previous command, the thirty-four gun frigate, the HMS Ferocious, was filled with mutineers and Alexander had somehow survived the attempts on his life. During his three year command of the HMS Ferocious, the crew had mutineed twice (mainly because of the bad pay).

Driving the thoughts about his previous command from his mind, Alexander glanced out towards the rest of the harbor and the frenzied dock workers preparing his vessel for departure. Recent reports of pirate marauders in the Caribbean had caused the scrambling that occurred in the city of Boston.

Eager for combat, Alexander moved to supervise some "lazy" sailors hanging about...

SHIPS-OF-THE-LINE were those which were powerful enough to take their place in the line of battle. That is, a 3rd Rate or larger which carried guns on two or more decks. The rated ships smaller than this were known as FRIGATES and carried all their guns on a single upper deck.

Despite their small size, the islands of the Lesser Antilles eventually proved attractive to the English, French, and Dutch. A group of Englishmen, led by ship captain Thomas Warner, settled in Saint Kitts in 1623 and set about planting tobacco, one of the most profitable crops of that period. Another English party settled in Barbados in 1627. Others established outposts in Nevis, Antigua, Montserrat, and Saint Croix in the Virgin Islands. The Dutch took Curaçao, Saba, and Saint Eustatius in the 1630s, and the French colonized Martinique and Guadeloupe during the same period.

During the early years of settlement, the English and the French colonies consisted mainly of settlers who worked relatively small plots of land. European indentured servants provided the labor. They grew tobacco and indigo and cut wood for export. By the 1650s the British, French, and Dutch had substantially diminished the Spanish monopoly in the Caribbean. In 1655 the English took Jamaica by force from Spain. French adventurers gradually occupied the western third of Hispaniola, which Spain officially ceded to France in 1697.

Captain Willoughby Brawnybottom had been at Sea most of his life. His Father a Cannonsmith, and silent partner in a successful trading company had purchased his families patent from an impoverished noble.

Willoughby, had been a thin fragile child who kept mostly to his studies at a local boarding school. Signed on to a Dutch trading vessel as a cabinboy in his fathers company at the age of 12, to in his father's words, "make a real man out of him!" He had then served after his designation of Able bodied seaman, on many ships over the course of his career. It was on the trading vessel he learned of the intimacy and close comradery that was shared by shipmates, who shared close quarters over long voyages. The group washings on the main deck to cleanse the men of vermin and the inevitable good natured wrestling and tests of strength afterward, by the men who had become excited by the cold rinsings with sea water.

At the Age of 20 he signed as a Navigator aboard a brigantine patrolling for pirates in the mediterranian alongside Lt. Thomas Hawke, who he indoctrinated into the benefits of regular washings. A habit which Hawke would take with him to the East Indies later. It was in the course of his commission that Brawnybottom learned the manners of court and English Society.

His Captaincy came when his father successfully bribed the Royal Admiralty to commission the building of a frigate, of which a large part of the cost would be covered by Father Brawnybottom. The ship a 5th Rate Frigate with 46 guns, would be faster than most, with the incorporation of
newly designed "jib sails." Christened the "HMS Bouncy Maiden," by Captain Brawnybottom the ship recieved its baptism of fire as a privateer in the service of England in the East Indies.

Recieving his orders while effecting repairs in the homeland, Captain BrawnyBottom sailed the currents South from England, resupplied at West Africa, then sailed the currents West to the Carribean. His ship now was at harbor, while he awaited orders from the Fleet Admiral.

(OOC: It would seem to me that since the Good guys are "British," The Admiral should also be British. Since I'm American, that disqualifies me, and I captain a Frigate. Admirals are SOL commanders. I nominate Crookfur for Fleet Admiral, unless someone has a better candidate.)

SM, yes you may.

Everyone, remember, the Royal Navy has 5 ships commanded by the nations with *'s by there name's.

Same for Pirates, just with 3 ships.

Standing on the prow of the ship Captain wilson gazed out at the sea while sipping on his cup of tea,"inform the wheelman we are headed towards Boston to sweep up and down the coast in search of rum runners which some how get by us and on to Nova Scotia and Newfoundland, also leiutennet make sure the crew is aware these waters are raped by pirates and to be aware", the red coated leiutennet looked at the captain nodded and went to the first mate and informed him. Wilson turned around and said "other than that this should be a jolly good time at sea"

IC: Captain BrawnyBottom sat in his quarters updating his log. There came a knock at his door. "Enter," he said. It was his second, Branden Fauntleroy. Fauntleroy removed his hat, tucked it under his arm, and snapped to attention. Sir! I have just recieved a communique from the Governor here at Jaimaca, requesting your attendance at a meeting with his lordship the Colonial Grand Admiral and the Govenor himself this morning.

"Very well, send to the Governors secretary that I will be present, and send the cabin boy to aid me in my preparations.

Very good Sir, it will be done at once.

"Dismissed," ordered Brawnybottom. At the command Fauntleroy spun on one heel of his boot leaving the Captains quarters and closing the door behind him.

That night a open sea storm hit, the water crashed over the sides of DONNER and moved her too and frow, "mr calagar!!don't let those sails blow loose or we'll all end up at the bottom of the sea by morning!!" bellowed Wilson, the crew rushed all over the ship busy at their extended duties. Wilson ran up to the wheel and pushed the wheelman away and gripped it himself,"hold it steady lad! like this!",the man replaced his hands on it and pushed with all his might.

NEXT MORNING:

All night it had been hell and halfway through the afternoon, now the water was deadly calm and the fog rolling in so thick the veiw was maybe 6 meters ahead no more. Wilson approached Calagar and shook his hand,"well done Mr calagar, i am truly glad to have to aboard, very useful". Donner was making very good time, the ship was headed dead north and all that was in front of them was calm water with a thick screen of fog which seemed erie and endless. Wilson sat in his quarters reveiwing maps of Nova Scotia and the place he was supposed to enter at, a certain Halifax Harbour then to Port Royal,of course this was all new to him for he had never commendeerd a ship before but served on 4,once for the Grand Admerial that he was proud,so far..so good.

"Fire, give them a full broadside!" ordered Alexander.

In unison, the cannons fired a salvo. A full broadside was fired into the bow of the pirate vessel. The vessel shuddered from the impact. Three cannonballs landed on the main mast, splintering it and causing twenty pirate riggers to fall into the water. The pirate captain seeing that he couldn't win in ship-to-ship combat ordered the vessel to close in on the HMS Triumph. But, Commodore Alexander Crusade skillfully whipped his vessel about, striking at the pirates with impunity, with his more powerful cannons. Unable to hold out, the pirates after a short, but bloody battle of some 32 minutes surrendered...

Captain Brawnybottom stood up, moved from behind his desk and began removing his duty uniform. He thought to himself while he undressed. (Soon I will be hunting Pirates, and they will be punished and hung for their crimes according to English law. They will think Satan has unleashed the beast upon them, to rend their flesh and drag their black souls to hell.) His thoughts were disturbed by a knock, and he realized he was making circles around the sensitive areas of his chest with his fingers.

“ENTER!”

The cabin boy entered and stood at attention with his eyes looking down, “You ordered me to report sir.”

Yes, lay out my dress uniform, you did polish the boots and buttons didn’t you?

Aye sir, replied the cabin boy still looking at the floor.

Then what are you waiting for? Move boy! The governor and Admiral are waiting, and we must make a good impression. Be quick, or it will be the cane for you. To emphasize his words, Captain Brawnybottom picked up a bamboo stick he had acquired in the East Indies and swished it through the air, striking the side of his leg with an audible slap. The corner of his mouth twitched at the impact.

Visibly flinching, the cabin boy quickly moved to the Captains closet, deftly picking out the required uniform.

Captain Brawnybottom began to dress keeping his eyes on the cabin boy, he noted that the hard work on the ship had made the boys body more angular and muscular like those of a man, but that his face was still softer and jaw more round, his lips still full. He made Captain Brawnybottom think of the boys he had seen in Greece.

Does any member of your family hail from the Mediterranean, boy? Queried Brawnybottom.

No sir, replied the cabin boy, but me grand da tole me that me family goes back to the Romens it does.

Very well, help me with my boots then, and for every smudge on the polish I find, a stripe will be put on your backside.

Aye sir! Said the cabin boy in alarm, and bent to his task.

OOC: sorry for not really replying to this earlier
As for the role of lead officer that would likely belong to the commodore after all it is merely a small 5 ship squadron.
Anyway the Vainglorious, to give her more detail, is a prototype of the Leda class (class not commisioned until the late 18th century but the plans existed fairly early on) she is almost as sleek as the main class but has 4 less 18pounders and turns slightly better.
As a 5th rate frigate she displaces 1000tons and is armed with:
24 18pounders
10 9pounders
8 Carronades (if soem historical oddities would be allowed then i could repalce soem of them with puckle's guns).

IC:

Captain Winterson was having an interesting time examining the final alternations made below deck following the maiden voyage of the Vainglorious. So far things were looking increasingly good and Winterson was feeling rahter proud of this young but feisty vessel. As his tour neared it's end the bosum hailed him:
"Captain Winterson sir!"
"Yes Mr Arthur?"
" Crows nest reports that the Saracen has arrived and that she as semophored the fact she carries orders for you."
"Very good Mr Arthur when she docks and the runner arrives i will be in my quarters, please carry on the inspection."

Later Winterson sat sipping a fine banana rum as reread the orders while the Vainglorious sped on her way.

"To make all speed to Port Royal Jamaica to form up with a newly formed pirate hunting squadron? a most interesting proposition indeed"
09-01-2004, 00:53
No, only people with *'s by there name will have there own ship, all others will be first mates.

Also, the pirates will be trying to (and will most likey sucessed) sinking merchant ship, and when the Royal Navy hears of it, they send this 5-ship convoy to investagate.

That the Royal Navy side be allowed 10 ships, (1 Flagship SOL, 2 SOL's 7 Players choice (no SOL's)

09-01-2004, 06:34
The only problem with that is that it will become too hard to keep stright. If you have 6 ships fighting 10, your also at a bigger disadvantage then 3vs.5. Also, 3vs.5 Gives an interesting use of your 5 (or 3) ships.

Captain Brawnybottom jerked awake from his revere. He was wide eyed and wheezing in a fit of hypervenilation. "PIRATES!" he attempted to shout, but only sounded like a breathy exclaimation that sent him into a fit of coughing.

A nurse walked up to him where he sat on his no longer brawny, but rather prune like bottom.

You must have been having quite an adventure while you napped Captain, but its getting hot outside now. Let me help you in, said the nurse helping the Captain to stand the way someone would a small child.

The Captain pointed out to the Sea, that could be veiwed from the vantage point of the Mariners home. "PII-raates..." he trailed off, resigning himself to the guidance of the nurse.

The nurse spoke gently to him, No pirates Captain. No pirates for almost 30 years. Come inside Captain and let me fix you some tea.

The captain mildly protested, "I was told there would be... pirates. Then allowed himself to be led back into the Old Mariners home, for a cup of tea.
11-01-2004, 08:02
Captain Wilson looked at Calagar and said,"roughy a week to 2 on the time we are making now...could even be longer..", then a shout came from on deck,"masts commin in captian sir!!", Wilson stood up and brushed by Calagar saying "ready the men!". He came out on deck to see a strange looking vessel on the horizon,"looks like 1 them corsair ships sir eh?" said the wheel man sheilding his eyes to the sun,"yes...no pirate markings but to be safe guns on deck! bring us ta a north west direction head on then bank to starboard side!" Ordered wilson,he nodded to Calagar to deliver the message to the full crew what was going on.

aproxmitly 10 minutes later the ship was fully visable and seemed to be a pretty well armed merchant ship with dutch markings,"aye sir come to a descision?"asked the gunnary sargent, then 6 boom's 1 after the other echoed through the air,"yes! BANK TO STARBORED! AND FIRE THE LONG NINES!!", the sargent ran to the deck and bellowed out the orders, the starboard anchor was dropped and the ship spun around and opened up. Cannon balls wizzed over head and 2 ripped through the balcony on the lower deck, the call of man overboard went from man to man, The ship had to have somthing to hide for it was moving again comming right up besdie them guns blazing and men onboard fireing muskets,"why the hell are they shooting at us calagar!!" yelled wilson, the red coated marines were already flowing up on deck to defend against the assulters. The enemy ship dropped anchor right beside DONNER still fireing but the 20Lbs were tearing it to shreads, then the 6 50's opened up the sound of the ball scraping the hot metal was heard all around, the regulars were swinging over to the enemy ship and a boarding plank was set in place which Wilson led men over moments later.

The battle lasted about a hour when it was all over Wilson ordered a search of the vessel that was filling up with water. He strolled into the Captains quarters where he lay on his desk right where Wilson had shot him during the battle but he sturred, Wilson approached sword drawn and looked at him, "why did you fire! huh? you are not pirates!" he exclaimed,"briiittish naavvy patrools musttt beee...ugh" the man stutted,"come on come on!"urged Wilson grabbing the man by his blood soaked coat, "all britttiish shipsss muust be suunk" the man coughed out, "why!!who's order is this!" yelled Wilson, then a red coated leiutennet came in, "sir, the ship is goin down..lots of english muskets and provissions are on board... stowed below", "thank you leiutennet" he waved him away and looked at the captain once again, "wee werre traaded thhoose by..piratesss.. in exxxtange for positions of royaall shippss.." he coughed and his head dropped back. Wilson was outraged and stormed out of the cabin and looked at the ship going down quickly and crossed the gang way in a jog. Wilson strolled up to calagar, " i wonder..where did they get Brittish provissions..they couldn't! unless the attacked merchant ships haha" he paused and stopped laughing,"bloody hell! thats what's going on!!double time gents, we don't have it to waste and how about a after action report aswell, can't ave lost more then 15 to 20 lads!!" he looked at calagar for his input.
11-01-2004, 08:26
After everyone was back on board Calagar counted the men and found that they had lost 16 men in all. He also took count of the provisions ands such taken from the Dutch ship. They had more than enough food for the voyage to Jamaica but they took damage from the Dutch ship so they would have to wait until the ship was repaired to continue on their journey. He walked into the captain’s cabin and asked if he had found anything out about why the ship fired on them. The captain told him that the muskets were traded to them by pirates in exchange for positions of loyal ships. Calagar was outraged that the Dutch had done that but it didn’t surprise the Dutch were always out to make a buck. The captain told him that he was welcome to come back to the cabin after everything was stored away and repaired. Calagar accepted and left to go oversee repairs being made to the ships.

IC:

The Vainglorious was making record time enroute to Port Royal (jamiaca) when one of the atlanic's legendary storms broke over her bows.

The crew not charged with keeping the ship intact during the tempest huddled below deck drinking and playing cards while the officers had gathered in the captain's state room to discuss how things were progressing.

So far everything was apparently going rahter well with the improvements and alterations and the officers were pleased with this but on the issue of the crew things were looking less rosy.

One of the junior leftenants in charge of the gun crews was most unhappy, "With all due respect Sir, while the rigging and general crews are all old hands with top rate abilities the gun crews as a whole are simply shocking! Thier drills are so bad they make the french look competant and they are lucky if they can make half the regulation rate of fire. Don't get me wrong some crews such as numbers 7 and 10 guns are outstandingly accurate and reasonably well drilled but even they need an officer's eye to keep them right!"

Newly appointed first officer of the Vainglorious, a thin, darkhaired, spectacled man, Peabody Tinthwistle, stood at the bottom of the gangplank, and took a moment to survey the frigate.

"A fine ship," he said outloud to no one in particular. "A wonderful ship! Now I have the opportunity to try the lessons I learned at the Academy, and the strategies I discussed with my chums about Naval Warfare, thought Tinthwistle."

Lt. Tinthwistle looked to the sailors at the top of the gangplank. "Look here!" He said in his practiced command voice. "I am now the first officer of this ship, my name is Lt. Tinthwistle! I must report immediately to the Captain! Is he aboard?"

"Aye Sir," said one of the sailors smiling pleasantly at the new first officer. "You will find him in his quarters, may I bring your effects aboard?"

"Yes, thank you Sailor, I will report to him directly!" Lt. Tinthwistle walked quickly up the gangplank to the door of the Captains quarters and knocked."

"We got company, Cap'n!" A sailor shouted from the crow's nest. Captain Ryan "Deadeye" Wilson, put his spyglass to his right eye, and saw a medium sized merchant vessel flying an English ensign. The ship was riding low in the water, which made it obvious that she was carrying a lot of cargo.

"Load the guns with knippel!" he shouted, as he rushed to the wheel.

"Load guns with chain. Aye, Cap'n!" responded the master gunlayer.

He turned the ship at such an angle that it would intercept the English merchant. By this time, the merchants were well aware of Wilson's presence, and were making every effort to get away. Men were rushing around the deck of the merchant vessel, trhowing anything that they could overboard.

When the Seawolf was diagonally behind and to the left of the merchantman, Wilson turned the ship hard to port so that the starboard cannons would have a good shot at the English ship. "Fire!" he ordered. The ship shook as the cannons fired. Most of the knippels flew over the deck of the merchant, shredding her sails. With the merchantman's speed reduced, Wilson put the Seawolf on a course slightly angled toward the merchant. As the Seawolf drew closer to to the merchant ship, Wilson saw them lower the Ensign-- a sign of surrender.

Later, after the crew of the Seawolf was done unloading the cargo of the English vessel, Wilson allowed the crew of the merchant ship to go on their way, since they surrendered. Wilson took all of the trade goods, but left them with their food, water, sailcloth, and planks, so they would be able to make it back to port.

It had been a good day. The ship was loaded with Mahogany; a very valuable wood, and casks of rum. Not only would he be able to sell the wood for a tidy sum, but the crew of the Seawolf would enjoy the rum immensely.

Captain Winterson glanced up from the file infront of him to the young officer across the desk.

Not the most impressive sight Winterson had ever seen in a first officer. The lad seemed terribly young to have gained the rank of senior leftenant and his almost bookish appearance was unlikely to go down terribly well with the ratings, but his academy ratings were rather good and he had servered his first criuse under one of Winterson's good freinds.

"Well Mr Tinthwistle it is good to have you on board, as you are aware the Vainglorious is a very new ship and untested in battle but by all indicatators she should perform admirably. The crew are generally of fine stature but with one exception... the gun crews. Your first task will be to work Mr's Summerside and Hardy to bring the gun deck to heel and up to scratch. We have soem time for manouvers and drills but when dealing with anti pirate roles you can never be too sure so i want improvemnts as quickly as possible."

“Aye-Aye Sir!” replied the gangly young lieutenant, a tone of eagerness in his voice. “I will immediately seek out Mr.’s Summerside, and Hardy for weapons inspection, and ordinance. I will also test the knowledge of the crew concerning the fire commands. We will drill until the battery crew’s dream of fire commands. Sir!” With your permission I will proceed immediately to my duties. Sir!” Standing at attention, Lt. Tinthwistle, holding his blue tri-cornered hat under his left arm, snapped a salute with his right.

“Proceed,” commanded Captain Winterson.

“Sir!” Lt. Tinthwistle returned to attention, took one step back with his left foot from the Captains Desk, spun about on his right heel and departed the cabin, closing the door behind him. He saw the Sailors he had spoken to at the gangplank dragging his trunk onboard. “Please be careful with that, said Tinthwistle, it contains some items that are breakable.”

“Aye-Aye Sir!” replied the Sailors struggling to lift the trunk off the ground. One sailor whispered to the other under his breath, “blimey! Did he bring his own anchor?” Pipe down and hurry up replied the other, its almost mess, and I don’t want to be late before the beer is gone."

A sailor standing nearby rang a bell 8 times. An officer nearby turned the watch-glass. Tinthwistle approached the officer while the crew lined up to the galley, mugs and pewter plates in hand. Mixed in the line were 6 soldiers of the Royal Marines, one with a sergeants stripes was at the front of the line.

Tinthwistle stood before the officer of the watch, "Good Day sir, Senior Lt. Tinthwistle at your service. Might I inquire as to your name sir?"

Setting: The year is 1695. The Carribean sea hosts the colonies of the English, (main port Port Royale Jaimaca,) The French (colony of Hispanola, St. Augustine Florida.) The Dutch, and Spain, (Ports in Panama, Chile, and Peru.) The tensions are rising between the English, the French and the Spanish. Mainly because the English are plotting acquisitions of the French and Spanish holdings in the New World. The English monopoly on shipping and trade is held by THE SOUTH SEAS COMPANY. Who have recieved an ASIENTO to trade primarily slaves to Spanish colonies. There is however some hostility as English Trade ships do occasionally come under attack by GUARDACOSTAS. Privately owned ships of the Spanish colonies. French ships do harry English trading ships as the French and Indian War is drawing near.

It had been 7 days since Captain Jenkins and his crew had been set adrift in their trading ships longboats. The vision of his ship being sailed off by the pirates still fresh in Jenkins mind. He sat at the Rudder of the Longboat a single sail pushing it toward Port Royale with a bottle containing his ear lying in his lap. A gift from the pirates.

"By all that is holy there will be Justice," thought Jenkins.

Captain Jenkins was no newcomer to these waters, and with the knowledge of his Longitude and Latitude from where the Pirates took his ship, took the most direct route to the English Colony. The longboats commanded by his second and third mates sailing alongside. The harbor was coming into view now. "Raise the Union Jack," Jenkins commanded one of his sailors.

Upon reaching a berth, Jenkins immediately found the Harbor Authority and filed a report. The report was directed to the Office of the Admiralty in the Carribean. Sir John Norris when he had been handed the report by his adjutant, issued a general order directed to summon any English Naval Vessel not under the directive of the first priority to, Sail directly to Port Royale and upon doing so, report immediately to Admiral Norris.

"We already have two Men of War in the Harbor Sir," said his adjutant. Commodore Alexander Crusade in waiting just outside, and Captain Winterson is aboard his vessel, I will send for him immediately."

"Very good," said Admiral Norris, also contact the office of Naval Affairs with my written directive and get the course coordinates of the three closest ships to this harbor that are not committed. Then find Commander Teale, and tell him I said he is to take his Corvette to those coordinates, find the ships and deliver my general order." Tell Commodore Crusade to please come in when you see him.

"Aye-Aye, Sir!" The adjutant snapped to attention, saluted and departed.

Commodore Alexander Crusade Sir! The adjutant saluted, "The Admiral will see you now Sir!"

Admiral Norris stood and returned the Commodores salute. "Please Commodore be at ease. Have a seat if you like. I have just sent for Captain Winterson of the Vainglorius, and would like to see you both for a moment. Events have occurred that need to be addressed and I am currently planning a meeting that will address them. Until then I have heard of your capture of a Dutch Pirate ship. Congradulations Sir, on your conquest would you please tell me about it until Captain Winterson arrives?

IC: Captain Winterson had a knack of being able to move quickly without actually appearing to hurry, a knack he put to good use as he departed the Vainglorious to attend the admiral's summons.

As he strode down the gang he smiled with statisfaction at the yells comming from the gun deck, young Tinthwistle seemed to be doing well.

Finally Winterson arrived outside the admirals office.

OOC: I think everyone ran off.

IC: While Captain Winterson was reporting to the Admiral, Lt. Tinthwistle took the initiative and began operations for refitting the Vainglorious.
First he met with the Ships Surgeon, Warrant Officer McCoy, and moved the Sailors below decks diagnosed with Dysentery, Typhus and Scurvy to the local hospital (13% of crew). He then assigned one of the Junior Lts. to oversee a cleanup crew of the lower decks. Using Vinegar and Water, Sailors assigned to the fore and aft rigging and who were not on duty at the ship batteries, cleaned the holds of Filth, and Vermin. Rancid and fouled foodstuffs and stagnant water from the long passage from Spithead to Jaimaca were removed as well. Lt. Tinthwistle then prepared a list to be delivered to the board of Victuals in order to bid among the private contractors of produce, and to refill casks with fresh water. A second junior lt. was assigned to inventory Sails, planks, Ironworks and Trade goods present on the ship and procure those items found lacking. Lt. Tinthwistle prepared a requistion for the captain suggesting the removal of some of the lighter guns to be replaced with "8" 16 lb guns to be placed amidships. (4 to a side). Long 9's were suggested also for bow and stern chasers.
After the Evening gun sounded from the fort, (120 guns), and the officers messed. Lt. Tinthwistle gave a 1 hour class in mathematics, and navigation to the Cabin boys and some of the uneducated men who were willing to attend. He then penned the days events on the right side of his journal and the Longitude, Latitude and wind directions by hour on the left side of his journal. He then stood watch until midnight.

"Captain Winterson, of the Vainglorious. Pleased to make your aquaintance sir word of your past deeds is of an impressive nature. Since we have naught else to do for the time being may i be so bold as to invite both your self, Captain Wilson and the Admiral to dine on board the Vainglorious ?"

OOC: Winterson is likely slightly older than the other ship's captains and a bit old and senior to be commanding a mere frigate but he has resisted all efforts to get him moving upwards and so has been serving as a sort of advisor on frigates for the admirality before been given command of the vainglorious on ehre maiden deployment.

Having just recieved a missive from his adjutant the Admiral speaks; "Gentlemen I have just been informed that You are all the crown can spare for this mission due to increasing hostilities with the French and Spanish monarchies. Therefore let us begin." The Admiral unrolls a map of the Carribean on a table.

Commodore, as ranking officer, (just below Rear Admiral,) you will be in command of this mission. The Chest of Semiphore Flags will be delivered to your ship. You will lead this squadron in double duty. First you will have noticed a large number of merchant ships will have gathered in the harbor. Your squadron will first escort these ships to open water. Your mission after you break off from the merchant vessels will be to find and bring justice to pirates that have attacked a Vessel of the South Seas shipping company. One known is Deadeye Wilson. Rules regarding the distribution of prizes apply. You may begin whenever you are ready Gentlemen. Godspeed.

Captain Oozing Bodysores stood near the steersman's wheel on the aft deck of the Sloop, "Syphillus." He surveyed the horizon with his Spyglass.
The crew now in the routine of sailing the vessel did not require any attention from him, so he was lost in his own thoughts.

"Yarr! Ise best be findin' a prize soon, or me darlin doxie back at port will be lookin fer enother sailor. That'll ferce me to be killin' anuther o the brethen it will." Yarr! A pox on all high-maintenance wenches." A call came from the lookout. "SHIP AHOY!" The lookout pointed to the west.

"After her me Lads!" Shouted Captain Bodysores, "Let us see wut bounty King Neptune has delivered to us!"

The fast sailing sloop soon closed in on the slower merchants Carrack, showing the colors of the French Flag. The ship turned to port in an attempt to cross the bow of the sloop, but the sloop was too quick and turned to starboard crossing the Rudder of the French merchant. 10 guns fired from the port side of the Pirate sloop at 300 meters, throwing chain through the sails and masts of the French Merchant and making the vessel even slower. The Pirate sloop then kept its heading moving out of range of the return fire from the French Carrack with its 8 guns, so slow was it to return to position for a broadside against the pirates. The sloop then turned port after the fire from the carrack.

"Yarr! The Frenchies got their guns firin' too soon." Smiled Captain Bodysores. Swing to Port and Port, an cross her from tha front, mates."

As the Sloop closed in the French struck their colors, not being able to outrun or outgun the little sloop.

The Pirates boarded the ship and plundered its articles of value. Including an ambassador of Portugal. He would be held by the Pirates for a Ransom. The Pirates cut all the Rigging lines on the Merchant, Spiked their cannons, and sailed for the shores of Tortuga.
