A couple of months ago, our national statisticians noticed an increase in young nations seeking alliances and weapons of mass destruction to defend their nation from other, more aggressive nations.

A lot of them seem to turn to alliances such as the recent “Orcthanc” alliance or they have resorted to buying dodgy nuclear weapons from irresponsible countries. Often these things come with a price, in a alliance you are expected to assist your allies despite the situation in your own nation, you are asked to “trade first within the alliance”. In an alliance you often find that they have an agenda to fulfil, often increasing the amount of enemies your nation may have.

Nuclear weapons tend to attract the attention of large nations, willing to defend them selves again small rogue nations with such an arsenal. Often they may resort to taking them away from you (even though you have done nothing other then acquire these weapons). Overall, people question your motives for wanting such weapons…

Well now there is an easier way of gaining protection without having to build-up your military!

The Iuthian Defence Treaty

This treaty simply requires that you do not build weapons of mass destruction, or eventually dissemble any weapons you may already have. That is all there is to it!

Once that has been acknowledged and accepted, Iuthia will be willing to use our military force as a deterrent against these sorts of attacks, we will literately hunt down any nation who launches a WMD against your nation for whatever reason. Although this doesn’t cover normal conventional attacks the idea is to remove the need for nuclear deterrents, at least for the smaller nations.

You will not be expected to follow Iuthia into any wars, nor will you be expected to follow the Iuthian way of thinking, you will not be obliged to assist us in times of need nor will you be required to do anything beyond agreeing not building WMD. Of course, being hostile towards Iuthia or her close allies does void this treaty.

But what about conventional attacks against your nation? Well under the above treaty, Iuthia will not be obliged to assist your nation, we may do so anyways, but the treaty only covers WMD.

Should you wish for further defence (be you a small nation, a nation wanting to bump their defence or even a pacifist nation) you may request a stronger defence treaty in which Iuthia will protect you against un-provoked* attacks from other nations.
However, we will judge you nation before we agree to this additional defence (the other treaty is for everyone). This is because we will not actively defend nations with a bad human rights record, because it will de-moralise my troops.


So, to re-cap:

Any nation wishing to be part of the first treaty must not develop WMD and be willing to destroy any WMD they currently have. In return for Iuthia’s backing should a nation be willing to use them against you.

Any nation willing to be part of the second treaty will be covered by the first treaty and will have to have a good human rights record and generally not be opposed to Iuthia, in return Iuthia will back you up if someone launches a un-provoked attack*.


* * Unprovoked attack includes attacks done for an unjust reason, such as imperialism. Should you start a war with a nation, Iuthia will not defend you in most cases seeing as you should only start what you can finish.
