Doctrine: Air Power; Completion of 'Stronghold'

Airpower rests at the apex of all military doctrines.

January 2, 2004

The swarm flies again, well over two hundred fifty thousand aircraft blankets the sky and shrouds the cities of the United Communist States of Zvarinograd in darkness, ripping forth a storm of sonicbooms. Each plane was equipped with the latest and finest technologies the world could offer, guided by a complex network of mobile command airships and a large number of airbases, each pilot trained with a well funded airforce academy program as well as a youth education program for the airforce. Premier Alexey Zvarinsky looks at his work from a balcony, he seems pleased.

"Well Valkov," he turns to his advisor, behind him, "It looks like you'll be keeping your job after all." Valkov shivered for a moment, making Alexey chuckle. "Don't worry," the young Premier said with a smile, "I wouldn't dare fire you, you've been a loyal servant and an intelligent instructor." he pats his shoulder, "I owe you a lot."

An hour later, Valkonezh Red Square

The United Communist States of Zvarinograd proudly presents to it's people and to the world the completion of the world's largest and technologically superior airbase, measuring 1,255 square miles in area. Defended by only the finest in anti-missle/aircraft defenses money could offer, shielded by hordes of aircraft and guarded by the eyes of "Angel", our first military GPS sattelite. This airbase will show to the world that our country is capable of matching and even surpassing airpower with nations far larger than ours. In addition, it will (hopefully) affirm our status of having one of the most powerful airforces in the world. Hopefully it will also bring tourism into our country.

The President and his staff have watched this project for many months now and wish to congratulate you on your nations accomplishment. We believe that it is without doubt one of the finest Air Bases in the World and that you do indeed have one of the finest Air Forces in the World.

Best Wishes and a Prosperous New Year,

President Anderson of the USIH.

The NE Aerospace Force commander looked at the display, muttering something.
"Wait, we sold these guys HOW many F-109Cs?"
The aide clicked through something on his Tablet PC.
"Ah... 10,000. Sir."
"Jesus... Well, send them a message from the NEAF, congratulate them on a great Air Force, and a great Air Base."

Bump. Comments? Hopefully there aren't any about the feasibility of the project, I already took into consideration the logistics and tactical dispositions needed to defend this base

Zack's the best though. Sure, Santi has the best military power, but Zack can get better weapons quicker.

Brother Lal's decent as well, he pwns everyone at election if you play as him. If he's against you, he plays like an idiot and no one likes him. ^_^

So about how many people are there in your airforce? You've got 250,000 men, you're probably gonna need about 15m men in you air force (US and Russia have about 60 men per aircraft) unless you're using low maintenance fighters or something similar. Which is a lot, but acceptable, seeing as you have no navy, and are obviously highly militarised, and are actually role-playing all your uber-military thingies. Not trying to rain on your parade at all, just tossing in a little thought.

That is at least 250,000 pilots... typically, there should be more pilots than aircraft to keep up with attrition, retirements, transfers, etc. Plus navigators... plus radar intercept officers... plus crewmen for the larger aircraft... plus maintenance personnel... plus administrative personnel... plus cooks... etc...

OOC:
Most of those that were in display were reserve and volunteer pilots were present, so I actually have enough for my size. (Yes, I would do everything to impress other nations.) They aren't low quality, in fact they're the complete opposite, supported by other nation's technologies and the fact that my entire research and development is concentrated on aerospace and the fact that most of them were reserve reduces costs.

Though, be wary, even if you won't see up to two hundred fifty thousand plus (250,000+) aircraft you should still expect a lot of it in combat, say ten thousand - sixty thousand (10,000 - 60,000) at a time.

Umm, the jet stream from the turbofans in your jets would cause problems with the other jets, you can't have that many jets operating close to eachother..

03-01-2004, 15:39
OOC: Doujin does have a point... that massive an array of formation flyers would cause problems. As far as the numbers go, I wouldn't expect more than 10,000-15,000 combat-ready aircraft, plus however many reserves. I wish I had all my books up here with me and not in storage in Texas... I could do a much better comparison if I had my "world air forces inventory" with me.

OOC:
That's why there's a command/information network to deal with arrangement of aircraft to stop them from causing problems with each other and still insist on 10,000 - 60,000 at a time, it's my military doctrine, not the world's.
Doujin
03-01-2004, 15:45
Doesn't matter what aircraft control network you would have, it wouldn't be possible to have that many aircraft in an area.. and ludacris as well, I don't see you needing more than 4,000 at most.... but whatever

OOC: If I remember correctly, the USAF doesn't have more than 5000 planes in total... that's including transports, refuelers, VIP, etc. Your nation is bigger and more focused on its air force... so I could see around 15,000 combat-capable aircraft. More than that would be pushing it unless you were filling a lot of the ranks with cheap, light, less-capable aircraft.
Zvarinograd
03-01-2004, 15:50
There's a slight problem with what you just said, area. Logically this many aircraft would cover most of an average nation. My doctrine implies psychological warfare, placing the aircraft everywhere might strike fear into the enemy and in addition, divide and conquer, a tactic mentioned in Sun Tzu's Art of War, whenever you have superior numbers over the enemy.

Well, compromise then, 15,000. A little less than I was used to, until my nation grows even further.

Doujin, you and I have very different definitions for need in an airforce. Remember, I do not have naval support. When my airforce plays, it plays solo.
