The Multiple Rocket Launch system, MLRS are deployed as a battery of nine launchers and will be given a battery maneuver area (BMA), within which are allocated three troop maneuver areas (TMA). These TMAs will contain close hides, survey points and reload points for the batteries. In a typical engagement, a single launcher will be given its fire mission orders using burst data transmission. The MLRS will remain within its hide until it is necessary to fire when it will emerge no more than 100 meters. The launcher is then elevated and fired, taking only a few minutes in total. As soon as is feasible after firing the MLRS will make its way to a reload point, where it will unload the empty rocket pods and pick up a full one. This procedure can be completed in under five minutes. It will then make its way to a new TMA. The Multiple Rocket Launch system, MLRS are deployed as a battery of nine launchers and will be given a battery maneuver area (BMA), within which are allocated three troop maneuver areas (TMA). These TMAs will contain close hides, survey points and reload points for the batteries. In a typical engagement, a single launcher will be given its fire mission orders using burst data transmission. The MLRS will remain within its hide until it is necessary to fire when it will emerge no more than 100 meters. The launcher is then elevated and fired, taking only a few minutes in total. As soon as is feasible after firing the MLRS will make its way to a reload point, where it will unload the empty rocket pods and pick up a full one. This procedure can be completed in under five minutes. It will then make its way to a new TMA. Additional ammunition for the MLRS is carried on the DROPS vehicle which is a Medium Mobility Load Carrier. Each DROPS vehicle with a trailer can carry 8 x Rocket Pod Containers and the Royal Artillery has 15 DROPS vehicles supporting the 9 x M270 Launcher vehicles within each MLRS battery.
