OOC: There is no damn way a 747-type airframe could fly at Mach 7. It has neither the aerodynamics nor the engine capability for hypersonic speeds.

ooc: I never said it did. I said it has Mach 7 engines. Not that it can actually fly at mach 7 speeds.

OOC: Well now i've picked myself off the floor from laughing so hard at this design, i think i can safely say this is probably the most stupid thing i have ever heard of. A Mach-7 747? Stealthy? Goddamn awful if you ask me.

Able to reach speeds of Mach 7

I'm sorry...

But this design is just SAD.

You can't mount Hypersonic Engines on a 747... I mean... what's the point? You can't use it why bother wasting millions of gallons of fuel on them?

And stealth? Hypersonic engines make NOISE and NOISE isn't stealth...

Its not just that, to fly at that speed, the whole thing would have to be recrafted from titanium, and shaped like a dart. Not a large civilian airliner.

OOC: Ever heard the phrase Sub-Orbital? No. If you get to sub orbital level which a modified boeing can do as the russians proved you can basically fly barely using any power.

So for some reason it has mach-7 engines on it even though they wont be used for a 1/7th of whats needed?
29-12-2003, 15:03
I dont think this think can even get off the ground!
McLeod03
29-12-2003, 15:06
Oh, and how in the hell is that stealthy? Because it has a pointy nose? I think not.

This aircraft would not be able to reach Mach-7, nor sub-orbital flight. It would struggle to get there, find the air is too thin to support the weight of the craft, combined with the added weight of the Mach-7 engines, and the extra fuel needed, then fall out of the sky. If, of course, it could get airborne in the first place.

Yes. To be quite honest yes. It's probably just me but do you think I should tone it down

BWAHAHAHAHA!

No.
So what you're trying to tell us is
-This is a 747
-It's sub-orbital
-It can go at mach 7
-And it's stealth because of a pointy nose and black bottom
Go read a book on aircraft and then hit yourself over the head with it.

And what the hell is a cubic litre? A litre/liter is a measure of volume by itself.

The 747-400ER carries a 241,140 liters of fuel to begin with. Adding an additional 1000 L doesn't do a damn thing.

Yes I also did a 3d-Render in Max 5. But I don't think you'll want to see that will you?

Unless you remove the "Sub-orbital", "Stealthy" and "Mach-7" parts of the design, then no.

At this point, psychidelic drugs. Seriously, you obviously were reading
-A very, very bad book
-Or you really misunderstood it.
You want to see what happens when a 747 tries to go hypersonic?
Find the picture of the Columbia burning up in the atmosphere, and tilt it so the debris is going horizontal. Also, a 747 can not be stealth. Go see their radar signature at a control tower radar... It's huge.

he really is right possibly if you squared every thing off also that heat reflective plating is going to way alot even if you did get it off the ground you could problably fly around the world it a mater of years at an altitued of 100 feet

Actually, at 100 feet going "Mach 7" as he claims, the thing would burn up fuel and explode. Also, the tail, the wings, and the overall shape of things not covered by the black stuff is gonna have a big signature.
29-12-2003, 15:23
Believe me you wouldn't. It's worse than the blueprints and it orange.

in a matter of years its going like 20 miles a day not even mach. 01

At a hundred feet it would nose dive with the water flip and then explode.

basicaly it takes oxygen from the air mixies it with an on board supply of hydrogen to get water then uses the water to convert it in to gas and it works llike a jocket engine it also works like a jet
top speed mach 8
can carry 10 nuclear war heads mutiple reentiry speratly targitable

While the intial implementation was flawed perhaps there could be something to be saved from the basic idea.

First though we must consider what roles this aircraft could be used for.

The 747 only really has 1 fully military version at the moment (the E4 airborne command centre ie airforce 1, the ABL is finished) and perhaps some rear area logistics prepostioning roles in the freighter versions.

Perhaps a stealthyised (made up word) version might be vaguely plausable for use in the E4 role or as an upgraded base for the ABL project but this would require soem really quite substancial work on airframe modification (think the EB-52).

As to the general ideal of a stealthy support aircraft the only one i can truely see a role for (bar recon platfroms but i wouldn't class them as support assests) would be a stealthy tanker to support a stealthy bomber fleet but then i imagine that dropping a hose and drouge/ probe out the back woudl seriously mess things up.
