Religious Disagreement escalates into rebellion.

27-12-2003, 06:24
On December 21st, at 7:00 AM, a church service conducted in the city of Parmont was interupted by a protesting group declaring the appointment of Catholocism as the country's official religion was unjust, claiming that it's a hateful religion for a peaceful nation. A fight broke out, many were jailed as of result, but a few remaining protesters gave a speech outside the church and what resulted was a multitude of riots plaguing the nation, growing by the minute.

Though the Kingdom of Wengard enforces naught but a peacekeeping force, specialized in riot control, many small cities and villages have been reduced into mobs of hate and attacks. Major cities, including the capital, have been able to quell most uprisings, but it's infectious spread is raising the body count and the downfall of the nation.

The government has contemplated removing Catholocism as the official religion of the nation, but our main request is sent out to other nations.

If any friendly nation could send non-violent forces, supplies or support of any sort, it would be greatly appreciated.

Due to it's support of Meramaso in it's investigation of Vlandostan's possible terrorist factions have weakened Wengard's peacekeeping efforts, though police are struggling, support from the military has allowed riots to qualm in major cities.

However, smaller cities are still at risk, rioting daily.
27-12-2003, 07:40
I would have been glad to send emergency police assistance, but then I realized that I hate religions, and therefore I side with the mobs on this one. Tell them to gimme a ring if they take over, k? :P

We advise against the establishment of an official religion for any state; however, that is your soverign right. We will open our borders to people fleeing oppression in your state, and provide refuge for them.

However, if your government takes more drastic steps and begins to treat people of other religions unfairly, we will be forced to step in.

We have enforced a law that makes offending ones religion (or lack thereof) illegal long before such an incident occured.

Some rioters living in towns near Exonerate and Hattia have fled to those countries in hope of respect of their religions, yet many have continued their rampage.

An hour ago, Dec 27th, 2am, the head of the church, Pope Harold Bach was shot and killed outside his cathedral, the Preston Cathedral, during scuffle between visiters and rioters.

Currently the Kingdom is seriously considering removing Catholocism as it's official religion, however many ministers, including that of Spirituality, fear that this may offend Catholic worshippers further after the assassination, therefore turning the tides of the riot the other direction.

Our peacekeepers are experienced in this situation and are not hesitant to use deadly force on errant protesters if you require (they like shooting protesters :) ).

If the standing government of Wengard would like, maybe Hattia could send in police forces to help quell the riots...

We can supply some of our police in an attempt to help keep the peace; if needed, we can even deploy our military police.

We applaud your consideration to uphold a separation of Church and State, and if you do decide to rectify your actions, we will provide additional assistance with any possible problems.

The Republic of Tilax is troubled by these events. If requested we can deploy an armored division to provide order in your country.

If wengard needs to dispel mobs, then Kilean has the force to do it.

The Kilean Internal Security Directorate fields a special counterinsurgency regiment that is proficent in urban operations of all scope, be it simple riot control or all-out urban warfare.

Although not a very religious nation, Kilean gladly assists any government that finds its hard-won order disrupted by mobs. The Kilean ISD is well suited to dealing with these mobs, and preventing them from forming in the future. We have special ISD cadres that can rapidly train local law enforcement in crowd management.

Wengard accepts any help that is offered, as long as it isn't exessively violent.
27-12-2003, 17:00
To us, the most sensible form of government is one in which the church IS the state. Therefore, breaking a law is tantamount to sin. Blaspheme the church, and you blaspheme the nation. Crime is therefore nonexistent as any who transgress against the church/state are summarily "sacrificed" to the greater good.

The people then remain in a perpetual (government enforced) tranquility.

Problems such as your own would not occur if you used our model!
27-12-2003, 21:17
Very well, we have deployed approximately twenty thousand of our police officers to your nation to help keep the peace. However, they will remain under our control, and will not take unreasonable orders from your government.

Wengard accepts any help that is offered, as long as it isn't exessively violent.

They will only use lethal force, if they are fired on first. But mainly they'll use tear gas.

They are on their way, they should arrive in 2 (NS) days.

We would ask that you avoid casualties, but if it is absolutely neccesary, we could do no less.

Dec 28th, 9:00AM, an explosion shook the foundations of the royal castle of Wetinus, Wengard's castle. The explosion caused extensive damage to the North Tower, which is fortunately condemned for construction faults.

Thanks to the Hattian and Wengardian police force's efforts, many culprits were apprehended before even leaving the scene of the crime. They have been detained and questioned to find out exactly what these rioters want.

At 2:00PM (Wengard time), one culprit told authorities that he was in fact, being paid small sums of money to, as quoted, "Blow as much crap up as I can". He confessed, in exchange for release, that the known terrorist faction CDRO, or Coalition for Destruction of Religious Order, was affiliated with the riots, and may have paid experts to preform acts of vandalism.

Police Chief Gary Chafer commented, "We believe it's an act of 'monkey see, monkey do' that sparked the tremendous flood of riots. We think that CDRO had released propaganda, which got more complex and fictitious over time to create a profound trend of lies. Of course, the idea they paid EVERYONE was brought up, but quickly dismissed."

Wengardian police are quickly cracking down on terrorist members through confessions, aided by Hattian police. The Minister of Diplomacy released a message to the Hattian government earlier this evening:

"We have begun the action of dismantling the terrorist plots, and it couldn't have been done without the efforts of your elite police force. We can do nothing but thank you for the tremendous effort you have shown us. I ask only what we can do for your country as repayment".

Catholics have also been recently been polled on whether or not removal of the Catholic religion as the official religion of Wengard would offend them or not. Results are still pending.

The threat is over!

Terrorist leader Rico Benduli has been captured an brought to justice in Wengardian courts. Upon capture, he confessed to all his charges, and given police a list of most, if not all CDRO bases of operation. Since his capture, riots have nearly halved. A truly bright future is ahead.

Hattian police have been awarded medals of honor in a grand ceremony held this evening, and have been sent back to their country.

Riot police are now finding it easier and easier to control riots, as people generally are giving up upon first sight of authority.

Updates will follow.

"They tried to destroy the castle!" screamed one man at the top of his lungs. He was standing on the top the stand for a cross being displayed in the middle of a street intersection. All traffic around had been halted by the hundreds of people congregating around him, raising signs and shouting. Behind the man stood a row of police in riot gear, half-expecting a riot to break out.

But nearly 2 km away, a man was watching silently through the window, which was open. His eyes were peering through the scope of a Barett 82A1, his hands moving slowly. He adjusted the scope slightly to account for the wind and bullet drop.

"They thought they could stop us by threats and intimidation! But they were wrong! We will fight for our right of religion! God was the basis of this country, and He will stay that way!"
Following that, there were many more shouts of cheering, along with raised signs.

The man held his rifle steady. This shot was going to be a difficult one, but not impossible. He aimed for the center of mass, and his finger tightened on the trigger.

"God made this nation, and He'll stay in-"

The speaker was interrupted mid sentence as a .50 caliber bullet slammed into his lower ribcage, producing a gruesome spray of blood. It was followed shortly by a loud boom. The crowd was stunned and stood silent. The police didn't know how to react, and several of them were looking around to see who fired the shot. Suddenly, a man in brown hair dressed in a tan trenchcoat shouted, "THEY did it!", he pointed an accusing finger at the police, "THEY SHOT HIM!" The crowd started roaring, and the police readied themselves for the inveitable assault. People started pushing and shoving.
In a building 2 km away, a man packed away his sniper rifle in a cello case, and walked away slowly. His work was done, now all was left to do was to escape.

OOC: The man isn't going to be caught... :P

We regret to inform you that our forces will be withdrawing from your nation. The scale of the riots have exceeded the expected scale, and we do not wish our police personel to be put in excessive danger. Furthermore, upon consideration, we have decided not to involve ourselves with what might possibly be an upcoming civil war. Our nation is in a state of hightened alert, given the possibility of hostilities with another nation in the near future, and cannot spare the people.

We hope you understand, and in the future, we hope we will be able to provide assistance.

Hattian police, with the permission of Wengard will be staying in the nation as long as there are riots.

Durass would be able to send one of our specialist anti-riot units (PDRT - Public Disturbance Reaction Team.) they are equipped with non-lethal control measures. Specific equipment will include APCs mounting water-cannons, tear gas projectors and tangler launchers (large nets) as well as dismounted personnel with shock sticks (riot batons with contact taser) and tasers. We would request a small lethal armed detachement to cover/protect the riot unit if needed. This unit can come from your own force or we can send our tactical unit that normally accompanies the PDRT.

Durassian convoy arrives at Wengard border crossing, Chief Constable Radek goes with his assitant to discuss specific deployment with Wengard Liason Officer. Remainder of personnel get out to stretch legs, one Sgt says, "Shake em out troops, next stop will be our assigned duty stations."

CCRadek: Greetings from the Council of Durass. As per our communications, the PDRT unit is available to assist in maintaining public order. Where do you need us?

WLO: Our thanks for your timely arrival, it was thought everything was stabilizing but, recent acts have spurred greater unreast. We'd like you to cover the area (pulls out map) around these two cities here. We're hoping you can handle both the cities and surrounding towns, the towns have been quiet so, it's primarily the cities. There have been rumours that a demonstration will go from the smaller city to the surrounding towns to gather support.

CCR: Should be OK, we'll be able to check several of the towns on our way in. (to assistant - 4 teams, 1 TAC and 2 PDRT APCs each) We'll set up an HQ in each city and have a reaction team available for anything in the towns. Oh, due to the recent developments, teh PDRT personnel have been issued sidearms but, during disturbances, they will be secured in the APCs as our normal policy. We've added some additional equipement, rubber bullet guns and the like, more forceful but, still non-lethal.

WLO: I can't see any problem with that, several other agencies are carrying guns even though they hope not to have to use them. The two cruisers over there will lead you in to you billeting and HQ area. Good luck.

CCR: Thanks, (shakes hands and heads back to lead APC)

A short time later, one of the lead APCs pulls off to the side and allows the convoy to pass by, the crew apparently checking out the suspension. After quickly determining no one can spot them, 4 troopers slip off into the woods. A few seconds later as the tail of the convoy approaches their position, the APC crew remounts and prepares to rejoin, the vehicle commander keyed a quick message via encrypted PDF, "Cobra 1 deployed." In the lead vehicle, CCRadek smiled, "one down, 13 to go."

The convoy continued to the road interchange where they would split up. At this point, the 4 recce teams split off, "You'll be met by officers at the central station in each town, call them using the frequencies supplied at 5k out from the town." Inside each of the 4 TAC APCs, in addition to the standard squad, was a pair of extra personnel waiting patiently for their drop point.

The main convoy, now split in two, followed thier respective cruiser to their HQ points. One bus stopped, with a pair of escorting APCs, about 10k past the interchange to replace a broken fanbelt but, was quickly back on the road,... less 4 passengers that quickly melted into the forest. Another encrypted messaged flashed on CCRadek's display "Cobra 7 deployed."

Eventually, the main convoys reached thier temporary homes and the HQs were secured. Comms with Wengard Police and appropriate officials were set up and a patrol schedule coordinated with local officers. Several more 'extra' personnel slipped away from the Durassian compound and vanished into the night. CCRadek ticked off the list in his mind, "Cobra 1 at border, Cobra 2 through 5 dropped by recce, 7 enroute to their target, 8 and 10 from HQ2 and 9, 12, 13 and 14 left here tonight. 3 teams left to deploy tomorrow. All in all a good day."

2 figures in dark uniforms slipped through the open woods, slowly approaching the small village...

Micha "No moon tonight and clear skies, we should be able to get in tonight."

Terri looked through the night vision scope, zooming in on the buildings. '3 churches, one on the east end has people... midnight mass?'

"Probably" checking through his own scope. "The other two are much bigger, Caths probably minority here."

'Only 2 law bugs in sight, one by Cathy church and other patrolling.'

"Let's get going, I want to be snugged in long before daybreak." Micha starts to rise.

Terri whispers 'Hold, movement our 10....' slowly swings his scope that way, 'single, armed, flashlight shielded,... heading towards us.'

Micha carefully picks up a large pine cone, using Terri's body to mask the throw, he flings it into the woods. The sound of it hitting and bouncing dwon a pine attracts the figure's attention and he flashes his light towards the sound. quickly and quietly, the team splits apart and faces the target, weapons ready.

Giving up on the sound, the man turns back towards the team and begins walking forward. He stops and kneels down, checking beween some bushes. Terri spots a thin line just in front of her Uzi's silenced barrel, 'Mines! Here?' she thinks but, then realizes, it's a snare. Whispering to Micha, 'he's checking snares, poacher?'

"Probably, foot's caught in one, luckily their not sprung."

'Action?'

"Silent"

Slowly, the figure closed with the team, as he checked a trap to Terri's right, his back was to her. Silently, she rose up and drew her PSS silenced, as the poacher stood he turned and spotted the dark figure in front of him. He gasped louder than the PSS coughed and fell backwards into the brush dead from the single shot to the brain.

Quickly Terri checked her kill and then hid the body under the bushes. After getting loose from the snare, Micha came over, "We'd better going, this may attract attention and we don't want to get caught before our strike."

'Or after' grabbing thier packs, they move to the edge of the wood and then across the fields....

Moving quickly through the streets, Terri and Micha approached the first church...

"Looks empty, good" as Micha checked through the windows.

'No alarms, let's go.'

Quietly, Terri picked the back door lock and in they went, first checking for occupants. Finding the building clear they began setting up their packages. A couple of hours later, they slipped back out of the church, and hid away in an unoccupied house they had found on the way in.

"We better keep watch, no car and no mail or paper, likely they're away for vacation but, best be sure. I'll take first watch."

Terri laid on the sofa, 'K, gnite' and was asleep in minutes.

Riots have hit a record low since the beginning of the rebellion!

Several key suspects have been taken in for questioning and brought to justice in the past week during media silence, and a national apology will be issued by King Frence to the people of Wengard at 8 am Jan 21st and will issue the nation's national faith as "Non applicable to benefit all parties". Inquiries into the assassin who sparked riots among the catholic group is still underway, but nothing's been found. General Cartinson of the Wengard armed forces gave a speech to citizens and reporters in a guarded courtroom at noon today.

"Today I come here to announce that soon our strife will cease. Riots are becoming less violent and talks are being made among officials and protestors that have been involved with this. We are nearing a moment of peace here, and while our economy may be struggling, our people unhappy and our government on the brink of panic, we have stood through this and soon Wengard will return to it's formy glory. Our forces are doing everything they can to secure safety in larger cities. As always, shelters will offer refuge for citizens unable to secure themselves in their homes, and rationings are still in circulation. Thank you"

Reporters have commented on Cartinson's statement being "too damn late for comfort".

Wengard officials have also requestion Hattian and Durassian troops withdrawl from Wengard as soon as possible.

The Durassian PDRT and TAC units board their vehichles and the two convoys leave the cities, meeting at the junction, they continue on for the boarder crossing.

In the lead APC, CCRadek taps a message code burst into the secure radio:

"COBRA BLACK 5"

Over the next few hours, as each covert team checks their digital messages, they see the message.

Cobra 2: Terri looked at Micha, "Time to go."

As he picked up the radio detonator, Mich replied, "It will be dark in a couple of hours, we'll slip out to the woods then."

OOC: Is it all quiet or would you like a bit more mayhem? Was waiting for you to get back and then stopped checkling till today.
