Permanent MOBO Station

The government of the Imperial Republic of Unum Veritas has recently approved a plan to permanently place a Mobile Offshore Base of Operations just inside regional waters, at the mouth of the only channel deep enough for warships (excluding shallow-draft ships) to enter. This permanent military base will greatly increase the CDOM region's security, by preventing any large, hostile warships from entering the region. The MOBO will provide a tollbooth of sorts. Only ships known to be friendly will be allowed within a 100 mile radius of the MOBO. Also, to augment the defense force aboard the base, a special naval armada is being constructed for the sole purpose of defending the region and the MOBO. The Ninth Armada will consist of +400 ships and countless aircraft and will be manned by citizens of all the nations in the CDOM region. Currently the MOBO is being constructed in Veritasean shipyards, as well as the ships for the new Ninth "Shore Defense" Armada. The radar and sonar aboard the MOBO and the fleet ships will be interfaced with the sonar/radar stations throughout the region to provide up-to-the-second information about all the naval and aerial activity throughout the region.

Nice. But for your sig, you could AT LEAST change his name to someone else invented. Jesus. These kind of things piss us true Lord Of The Rings fans off to no end. Go make your own quotes up, don't steal from other authors. Sheesh. Rant over. But really, these MOBO's are intriguing. Could you give our nation the price to one? They seem very good defensive-wise.

we were considering buidling a smaller version but when we realised that it would cost 7-10 billion, the idea was put on hold.

OOC: I doubt you are any more of a LOTR fan than I am. But I did not want to change the name, nor the quote. Besides, this quote comes from the movie and I thought you "diehard" fans didn't like Peter Jackson's version because they strayed too far from the book.
IC: I do not have the authority to sell the production rights to MOBO's, because they are copyrighted to another nation.

United Elias, very nice pic. We looked at smaller ones, but decided just to use the modules construction style so that we could construct whatever size we needed based on what it would be used for.

Darn you Mr Fabcy Pants!!!
I mean- Too bad its copyrighted. Sounds like a good technology. And as for the movies, I don't hate them personally. I just dislike a few small areas not included/changed(No Scouring of the Shire!) but realize that every fan has their own interpretation of the story, so I can't have everything my way. And as for not being more of a fan, have you watched the animated versions of LOTR and the Hobbit? If you have, I consider you an equal. If not, well Pbbbbtttthhhh!

I've watched them a long time ago and had to struggle from cringing. I didn't go back and rewatch them. The one thing that really got to me (besides no scouring) was the fact that I expected them to sail away to Valinor on a tall ship frigate, not the small little sailboat they had in the movie. I look out my back window and see sailboats bigger than the thing they had in the movie. But enough of this, this isn't the point of the thread...( )

Looks kewl, sending people, money, fun stuff like that, blah blah blah, information net thing has been ready to interface for a few years, let's do it, yay. *wonders when SG server will go back up so I can upload Morannon*
And as for the movies, I don't hate them personally. I just dislike a few small areas not included/changed(No Scouring of the Shire!) but realize that every fan has their own interpretation of the story, so I can't have everything my way.
I told my friends on the ride home from RotK what was supposed to happen at the end of the movie, and they said they could hardly imagine that happening. It does sound rather ridiculous if you're not in the book and realizing that this is the completion of the journey of change for the hobbits, especially Merry and Pippin. Any way, I was much more bothered that there was no massive swooping shot over hundreds of miles with a wave of light coming out of Mordor, but even that is not that important. And hey, who knows what ten-second book moments will be in the EE? Agree about the ship size.
And as for not being more of a fan, have you watched the animated versions of LOTR and the Hobbit? If you have, I consider you an equal. If not, well Pbbbbtttthhhh!
You may notice that my puppet nation, Bakshi, is in our region. http://www.sc3000.com/forums/images/face5.GIF

The MOBO construction has been completed as well as the entire armada. All of the crews have trained for several months and the entire program is now deemed operational. At a ceremony celebrating the new defenses, the Minister of the Navy Lance Sterling had this to say,
"Today is a great day for the Imperial Republic of Unum Veritas. Henceforth we may all sleep more soundly in our beds, knowing that these mighty defenses are erected and manned by some of the best warriors in the world. Never again shall our nation be caught undefended by predatory nations! With this MOBO and the Ninth Armada protecting the only channel deep enough for any large warships, we can all feel safer in this dangerous world."
The exact aerial detachment to be stationed onboard the UVS Shield still has not been released, however throughout the past week, a large number of high speed fighter bombers such as F/A-18 Super Hornets and F-117 Nighthawks have been seen leaving airfields throughout Unum Veritas.

The permanent air wing for the UVS Shield has finished transportation to the MOBO. All aircraft will be housed in protected hangars aboard the floating base and air crews, including pilots, will stay in barracks aboard the Shield. The Isolationist and Veritasean sailors have been practicing movements together in order to expedite any coordinated actions between the two groups. The radar and sonar net based on the MOBO has been completed and the Shield has been patched in with Veritasean command and control centers throughout the region. Possible deployments from other nations in the region are pending.
Unum Veritas
01-02-2004, 18:29
Several new wings will be added to the current MOBO in expectation of future deployments of aircraft by other nations in the region. Two wings will include large aircraft hangars as well as barracks and other living quarters for pilots and flight crews. Two more airstrips will be added, bringing the total number of runways to 6 (excluding all of the aircraft carriers detailed to the Shield).
Another wing is being added to form docks for transport ships and warships. This man-made harbor will have a drydock and repair capabilities for nearly every warship detailed to its defense (except, perhaps aircraft carriers which will have to travel back to UV for repairs). This new wing will also be able to offload oil and other essentials from tankers and store it for use by the Shore Defense Armada and the Untitled Armada.
A third, smaller wing will be added to house and train special operations teams. These teams will live aboard the MOBO and will use this wing to train to sabotage enemy ships and other naval wartime tasks.
The Shield, after these additions, will fill up nearly all of its allotted waterspace and thus, these will most likely be the final additions for some time. These additions are expected to take 1 NS year to complete (this number includes module construction in Veritasean shipyards).

The name of the defending MOBO has officially been changed from UVS Shield to UVSD Gatekeeper. A theater missile defence system has been built into the Gatekeeper, as well as a new SDI system. A submarine repair and resupply dock has been built onto the East Wing as well. The Gatekeeper has been deemed the equivalent of a land-based supply and repair port as well as a complete air and sea defence platform.
