Railrifle

http://www.blackorc.com/forum/attachments/ACF337F%2Ejpg

COST: $950 per unit, $570 for every 50 slugs

This weapon fires solid metal slugs by magnetically accelerating them.

These are special slugs approximately the size of a shotgun solid slug.

Through magnetic acceleration, these are powerful enough to pierce any personal body armor, and have been known to pierce tank armor.

The muzzle velocity has been known to exceed 1000m/s.

Here is a picture of it firing 4kJ shots at metal approximately six feet away (this is during testing).

The weapon itself is approximately the same size and weight as an assault rifle.

http://www.powerlabs.org/images/railgun.jpg

A simple graphic representation of the effect is seen on the image above;

the current flows up on rail, through the armature which sits

perpendicularly to the rails, and down the other rail.

The result is a magnetic field between the two rails

(B = 2x(u0/2pi)x(I/r)) and an intercepting field by the armature.

The rails repel one another (F = u0I1I2L/2piR) and they both repel the armature (F = ILB).

Since rails are both fixed the net result is a propulsive force on the armature,

which will be accelerated forward by electromagnetic means (A=ILB/M).

This differs from conventional mass accelerators in that no gases are used,

and it differs from conventional electromagnetic accelerators in that the field trails behind the projectile at all times;

since no coils are used coupling occurs at a much greater degree and efficiency values would tend to be higher.

Railgun

A larger variant of the Railrifle, the Railgun is incredibly more powerful.

A sliding armature conducts electrical current between two large rails.

A low drag, hypersonic sabot supports the projectile between the rails.

The capacitor bank flows an electrical current down the rails.

A magnetic field is generated around the rails, which interacts with the armature's current. This generates axial propulsive force.

This accelerates the armature and projectile down the barrel with incredible power. [ Lorentz Force (F) = Current (J) x Magnetic Field (B)

Flight Mass-30kg
Launch Mass-40kg
Launch Velocity-5 km/s
Muzzle Energy-126 MJ
Breech Energy-~300 MJ
Barrel Length-15m
Peak Acceleration-90 kgs
Firing Rate-12 to 24 RPM
Peak Power-40 to 80 MW
Peak Current-~12 MA
In-Bore Time-8-10 msec

OOC: This is not godmodding, this is just a slight improvement over existing railgun statistics

Barrel Configuration: 15m length
Cabled at Breech
Train and elevate
Simple Cooling Channels

Bore: 225mm x 225 mm
150mm rail thickness

Electrical Current Profile: 13 MA/msec linear rise rate
0 slope linear secondary rate
2 MA/msec linear decay rate
80% max current at muzzle exit

Projectile: 40kg launch mass
5 km/sec
Base push

Barrel length has been tested from 155m 62 caliber type guns to 20 meter, 100 tons per barrel. At 15m, max acceleration is achieved.

At 15m, the average rail temperature after gun fire reaches approximately 315 degrees Fahrenheit. The shorter the barrel, the higher the temperature, the maximum sustainable being 340 degrees Fahrenheit.

After 10 seconds of cooling the temperature was dropped to 310 degrees Fahrenheit. The shorter the barrel, the faster the cooling.

Due to the absence of accelerated propellant gas, there is little or no recoil.

The length of the recoil stroke is less then a foot, at 126 MJ. In contrast, the Mk45 Mod 4 has 18 MJ muzzle energy and has a recoil of nearly 3 feet.

Cost: 10 million per weapon, comes with 20 shells
500,000 per extra shell

May be loaded with conventional armaments, so this storefront need not be your only source for ammunition. Our ammunition is developed for the sole purpose of the railgun, making it marginally more powerfully. However, conventional armaments are easily loaded onto the armature.

Production rights are at 1 billion for the railgun and 5 million for the shells.

I'll take four rail guns....how about $2,000 each, and $500 for 5000 rounds, about 50 round pods.

Concussion Missile

http://www.descent-3.com/models/conc.jpg

The Concussion Missile is a warhead, guidance computer, and advanced proppellant system protected in an armored tube. With an optimum range of 300m and maximum range of 700m, these are devastating weapons for destroying tanks and buildings. They are fired in staggered pairs to maximize the damage on targets, each missile seperated by a fraction of a second. The warhead's explosion generates sonic booms and ground tremors at close range, levelling walls, destroying equipment, and inflicting heavy casualties. They are best used on aircraft against stationary or slow moving targets.

The cost is 1500 USD per missile.

ZRK-SD KUB 3M9
SA-6 Gainful

The SA-6 GAINFUL is a two stage, solid-fuel, low-altitude SAM. It has radio command guidance with semi-active radar terminal homing. The 3M9 KUB self-propelled surface-to-air tactical low-altitude anti-aircraft missile system is intended for destruction of aircraft, missiles, cruise missiles and assault helicopters at low to medium altitudes.

The SA-6a missile has a length of 5.7 meters, body diameter of 0.335 meters, a wing span of 1.245 meters, a tail span of 1.524 meters and has a launch weight of 599 kilograms with a 56 kilogram HE-fragmentation warhead. The proximity and contact fuses are armed after some 50 meters of flight. The basic SA-6a has a maximum effective range of 24,000m and has a minimum effective range of 3,000m, the minimum engagement height is 100m when using the fire control (STRAIGHT FLUSH) radar and 80m when in the optical tracking mode, the maximum effective altitude is about 11,000m.

A battery is able to relocate to an alternate firing position in approximately 15 minutes from systems being shutdown. In 1977, a new version - the SA-6b Gainful, was mounted on an SPU medium-tracked transporter. The SPU carried three SA-6b missiles and also an associated FIRE DOME H/I-band missile guidance illuminator radar is fitted on the front end of the launcher assembly. Reload missiles are carried on modified 6x6 trucks and are loaded manually onto the launcher by a crane carried on the rear of the loader vehicle. Reloading an TEL takes approximately 10 minutes.

The STRAIGHT FLUSH fire control radar has a maximum range of 55 - 75km and a 10,000m altitude capability depending upon the conditions and target size, and performs limited search, low altitude detection and/or acquisition, pulse Doppler IFF interrogation, target tracking & illumination, missile radar command guidance and secondary radar missile tracking functions. Some modified fire control (STRAIGHT FLUSH) radars use a TV camera with a 30km range to enable the battery to remain in action even if the vehicle's radar is jammed or forced to shut down due to threats from anti-radiation missiles. This radar can also be linked to the launch vehicles by either a radio data link or a 10m long cable for direct data input to the launcher's systems. The data link antenna is carried on the right forward hull corner of the TEL. It also carries the fire control computers for the SA-6 Gainful missile battery.

The foldable 28km range dish antenna is of the conical scanning type and is used for low altitude H-band sector search scans, target tracking and target illumination. The lower parabolic antenna is the G-band medium altitude target acquisition and early warning radar with a 55-75km range, with the lower feed for medium to high altitude coverage and the upper feed for low altitude coverage.

The STRAIGHT FLUSH fire control radar can begin target acquisition at its maximum range of 75km, and begin tracking & illumination at 28km. The STRAIGHT FLUSH radar can only illuminate a single target and control three missiles at any one time so normal practice when a target track has been initiated is to normally order the launch of two and sometimes three weapons from one or more TELs.

LONG TRACK

http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/world/russia/images/long-track-DFST9803635_JPG.jpg

The TELAR vehicle is of all-welded construction with the crew compartment at the front, missiles on the turntable immediately behind the crew compartment and the engine at the rear. The transmission is at the rear of the hull. The torsion bar suspension system consists of six rubber tired road wheels with the drive sprocket at the rear and the idler at the front. There are no track return rollers. The vehicle has an air filtration and over pressure NBC system and infra-red night vision equipment fitted as standard but the vehicle has no amphibious capability. Three SA-6 Gainful missiles are carried on a turntable which can be traversed through a full 360º with the missiles elevated on their launchers to a maximum of 85º. When traveling the turntable is normally traversed to the rear and the missiles are horizontal to reduce the overall height of the vehicle.

Besides being vulnerable to suppresive fires and ECM, the system is slaved to the long-range LONG TRACK radar. Without it the SA-6 is "blind" at high altitudes.

How does a gun that size have the electrical energy to generate the magnetic fields required to fire the slug?
24-12-2003, 18:04
Order confirmed.

OOC: It is fully possible to create a small energy source for that weapon. If you look at the picture of its firing, you see an energy source that is at the size that can be carried by one man of moderate strength, so long as that is the only thing he is carrying. Sort of like a large suitcase or a trunk. That is built by amateurs in their garage in the year 2002. My nation is around the year 2040 at the very least, the possibly much further, and commited millions and millions of dollars in funding and the best scientists to this project. Don't you think it possible that in near-future tech with a lot of funding it can be made into gun size?

New larger railguns have been developed as seen above. This railgun is infinitely more powerful then virtually any other projectile weapon in existance.

It fires guided projectiles at speeds greater then Mach 7 (!!!) for distances exceeding 200 nautical miles. The absence of energetic materials also eliminates the need for explosive safely standards for manufacturing, transportation, handling and storage. The extremely long ranges, short flight times and high energy on target lethality all contribute to the potential to vastly enhance future assault requirements for expeditionary warfare. The power source will have ample power to supply a railgun with the 15-30 megawatts necessary for sustained fires at 6-12 rounds per minute.

Why are your shells explosive?

The entire idea behind rail guns is so that they will creat the explosive effect through their sheer velocity. So, explosive shells would not only be dangerous... but also needlessly inexpensive.

Just thought I'd add that...

A railgun is a machine that uses magnetic fields for repulsion of materials.
a series of magnetics repulse the object from one field to another giving the object inertia. The fields are controlled by switches. A functional Railgun was developed by Los Alamos National Laboratories that is 40ft long and can throw a 1 lb. block of lead 5 miles. The major problem is the power required to operate such a weapon. As this is a RP game I am guessing that Tokarev has created a reasonable facsimile for the Rifle being offered. I am guessing it is particle charged using Americium as the main source of power.

I am not comfortable with the projectiles being used, "Tungsten." It is a very heavy metal and retains a charge. Projectiles in the form of "Needles would be more functional, and as the magnetics would propel the object, there would be no recoil, the object would also have to float freely by equalized magnetic fields. U=-MB(r)+mgz+U dia.
A better projectile would be an alloy of neodymium, Iron and Boron.

05-02-2004, 06:53
Railguns are silent by nature. They make no noise.

I can create for you a tank armed appropriately. It is well-armored and stealthy. If you want the complete statistics, you will have to e-mail me at acridian@cox.net

The railgun has an optimum range of 400km on open, flat ground.

The projectile is twice as heavy and can pierce twice as much armor as coventional weapons even at long range. At closer range, within a few hundred meters, it has been none to go through a tank and go an and destroy another.

OOC: 400km is ungodly. Artillery doesn't hit that far, and tanks need a portable power generator source.

The 400KM is based off of my own mathematics skills, translating an assault-rifle sized weapon to a large scale weapon.

I should make it clear that it can only go 400KM is COMPLETE unobstructed for that distance. I should have made it more clear that optimum range is SIGNIFICANTLY less then that, in the under 100KM range.
