"as part of the ongoing effort to commemorate the defience and
triumph against the oppression, and gut wrenching atrocities that have
defiled the common dignity of those attacked, i am proud to see this
monument become a reality" as quoted from the prime minister of
progia, as the tiananmen square monument was unveiled to the public.

"on june 4, 1989, a peaceful movement in tiananmen square had
been violently, and spitefully, crushed with no mercy. to the rest of the
world, the government had been proclaimed the victor in this bloody
military action against unarmed collage students, and unfortunate
businessmen and other bystanders caught in the line of fire. however,
one man, in a pure act of self sacrifice and heroism, had singlehandidly
stop an entire group of tanks. covered by the press, he kept in front of
the leading tank and gave up everything, his family, his property, his
life, all for his fellow peers. even today, this stands as among the
greatest acts of courage and victory in the world. and now, this man,
whatever his name, whatever his past, is being honored by the nation
of progia. with this monument, the loss of lives, and the awe-inspiring
bravery of this man, will be forever remembered and celebrated."

the design of the 150 x 200 ft monument depicts the lead tank, the
man and in the background, the statue that depicted the "goddess of
democracy". the progian government is currently passing a bill making
june 4 a national holiday. this would be the only non traditional holiday
to be officially recognised in the nation.
