Jews around Al-Ummah Al-Islamiyyah marked the Festival of Hanukkah commemorating
the success of Jews led by Judah Maccabee, son of the Priest Matitiyahu, against the Greek occupation of Judea, and the miracle of that victory and the kindling of the candles at the altar for eight days, with oil provided by God the Almighty.
At the time Antiochus Epiphanes of the Greeks caused the temple to be desecrated, and sacrifices at the altar were ceased.
The miracle is marked outwardly with the Jewish citizens of Islamic Ummah lighting Menorah's (candelbra) at their window sills to commemorate this event of the purification of the temple and the prevailing against a mighty occupier.
The Grand Hacham of the jews of the nation, His Eminence Yohanan Elazar, addressed the Ummah's 113,000 jews to recount to them the story of a victory of Judaism over Hellenism, one of righteousness over injustice, and one of right over might.
The Mufti of Al-Dyar Al-Islamiyyah (of UI territory), the Sheikh of Al-Azhar, the patriarchs and archbishops of several oriental and Western churches, as well as the Amir of the Faithful, and members of the Government sent greetings to the people and leadership of the Jewish community in the nation.
National Assembly, councilman, Chaim Dreidel, also, gave a word at the Grand Consultative Council (the Legilative branch of UI's government) marking the Festival.
