Floating City

20-12-2003, 15:02
Dateline: December 20, 2003

Prominent scientists of the country Stevenopolisburgton have devised a way to build "floating cities", which could help the world escape the degradation of the world.

"Ze floating cities are, how you say, phenomenal," Said French ambassador Ima Gonna Surrender. "I wish we could have a floating 'Paris II'"

The scientists have not decided if they are to release the plans to the world as of yet. For now, we may have to walk on the barren ground.

Jiggady scientists applaud the breakthroughs of Stevenopolisburgton in developing technology for these floating cities. "Why go to the moon when so much of our planet is covered by floating real estate?" Scientist Max Von Einstone was quoted saying in popular science magazine.

The Jiggady government is impressed with the efforts of Stevenopolisburgton and will pledge funding to further the research and actuall creation of these floating cities. The world is truly moving into a positive direction.

Let me guess. A platform with fission reactors running anti-grav devices keeping the platform afloat.

Stevenopolisburgton scientists have decided to release specs for their new floating city platforms. The Governor, Freak Quency, thanks Jiggady for their support of these floating cities. Specs are as follows:

*********************************

Dimensions:100 miles squared to 500 miles squared, 15 stories tall
Power: 1 quark nacelle per 20 square miles
Speed: can be anchored or moving at 10 miles an hour.

The Floating City, dubbed FC Vortex, is a revolutionary solution to overcrowding and the destruction of our Earth. With its max population of 500,000, it can provide living quarters, entertainment, amenities, and jobs. Can be produced for only 5 mil.

We are willing to sell for a reasonable offer.

The R.A.F.A.I.S. (Rebeland award for achievements in Science) award has been given to Stevenopolisburgton. Congratulations! When you are willing to sell the blueprints for your floating city please let us know.

Won't these floating cities obstruct sunlight?
21-12-2003, 05:42
Since most of Stevenopolisburgton is barren wasteland, the obstruction of sunlight matters little to us. However, with a little modification, high altitude Vortex platforms can be made to fly high enough to little effect the sun.

Dontgonearthere questions the stability of these platforms, we are interested in purchasing some, however. We ask if they could either stand up to the 100+ MPH winds in DGNT or evade them through some other means. Are their any exhaust ports that could be clogged by sand? Is their a backup system incase the hover engines fail?

The stability of the platform (anchored) is not a problem, withstanding up to 200 mph gusts (unanchored withstands 130 mph winds). There are no exhaust ports that are exposed to the possibility of sand, and the hover engines, while guaranteed not to fail, have a back up repulsion system that can be used to lower the platform to the ground.

I'd like to purchase one...and the blueprints as well (so we don't have to waste time with figuring out the schematic ourselves)

DGNT will trade plans and rights for these cities for the plans/rights of its City in the Sky space stations, which are quite similar to your cities, except, you got it, in space.
These can be constructed in orbit or on the surface, though surface launches of that much material are rather costly.

Sordina would also like to purchase the rights and plans for a "flying city." We feel that it would greatly improve the person-clogged cities of our nation.

Agreed?

KNBC Breaking News Bulletin /Kormanthor Builds Huge Sky City

(Slowly the logo of KNBC disappears, replaced by a very beautiful, yet entirely profesional dark skinned elven lass sitting in the World Class European café on the roof of The Selveri Tower. Which is the center & tallest building of the seven building complex. Surrounding this breath-taking tower are the six other towers that complete the complex that is the center of The Cityscape Of SelveriMoon. Beyond this wondrous tower complex the city proper sprawls out two hundred fifty miles in all directions. Miles below the western coast of Kormanthor can only see this wondrous city as small silver disk.
In the skies above the city proper various types of aerial & spacecraft can be seen darting about, most of them centered above the sprawling
SelveriMoon Spaceport Facility).
