Aviation Project Proposals

In accordance for the United Socialist States of Zvarinograd's ever expanding and advancing airforce, additional billions of dollars are spent each year not only to maintain but upgrade as well as expand the massive "armada" of aircraft. Several scientists around the country began sending proposals due to this sudden influx of funding towards aviation.

Mr. Mark S. Dombrowski
ID: VRCS-ASD 01-001
Title: Fuel-Air Delivery Ratio Enhancement
Abstract: Mr. Dombrowski's proposed method of boosting gas turbine engine thrust at supersonic speeds comes to simultaneously increasing delivery of air and fuel into main combustion chamber. The increase of said rates is provided by decreasing part of air bypassed behind the last stage of compressor whose value at takeoff is at least 10% of total consumption of air. In effect, it achieves increased thrust from gas turbine engines.

Dr. Yakov S. Khodorkovsky
ID: VRCS-ASD 01-020
Title: Enhanced Turbojet Inlet Injection
Abstract: Dr. Khodorkovsky proposes to develop an analytical and experimental database that demonstrates the basic feasibility of inlet injection of oxidizers in turbojet engines for turbojet acceleration. This will enable operation of conventional turbojets to higher Mach numbers, to higher speeds, and to higher altitudes than they are current capable. This is a step in using the nation's inventory of these assets for new applications and, in two-stage-to-orbit systems using these engines, brings the United Socialist States of Zvarinograd closer to "airline-like" access to space.

Dr. Vladimir Illyanich
ID: VRCS-ASD 01-998
Title: Mach 6+ Turbine Engine with Inlet Air Conditioning
Abstract: Dr. Illyanich has a radically different approach towards hypersonic speeds. He proposes to design, develop, and test a new high Mach engine concept, the SteamJet(TM), which is based on existing turbojets. This will provide the United Socialist States of Zvarinograd with a low cost, low risk propulsion system possessing unique control and acceleration/deceleration features for small hydrocarbon-fueled flight vehicles such as missiles, interceptors, and launcher accelerators. SteamJet(TM) employs a simple, low cost modification to a conventional turbojet engine to reduce the high incoming air stagnation temperature at high Mach numbers and compensate for compressor performance deterioration. The main innovative feature is that SteamJet(TM)is the only airbreathing cycle that permits vehicle acceleration with a single type of engine (as distinct from, for example, the turboramjet) from sea-level static conditions up to Mach 6+. The SteamJet(TM) is a high thrust engine with very flexible thrust control, and it is fueled by commonly available fuels. SteamJet(TM) technology is environmentally clean and it is equally applicable to both military and commercial launchers as well as other high speed vehicles. The SteamJet(TM) concept has unique competitive advantages of higher performance than solid or liquid rockets, provides thrust from sea-level static conditions to Mach 6+, and has a higher thrust-to-weight ratio than a comparable ramjet. Being completely within industrial capability, this low cost modification of existing turbojets offers a variety of thrusters for the United Socialist States of Zvarinograd's rapidly expanding airforce.

That's right folks, those aren't typos, that's a mach 6, environmentally clean, low cost modification to a turbojet. To hell with scramjets! :D

Well, enough of my insolence and mockery of other aerospace developers, time for the all important reality check. Comments and suggestions, just post.

Interesting... The Five Civilized Nations' Aerospace Company, Crusade Corporation will like to purchase contract these engines for its F-49B Rapier Fighter... In addition, we would like to work with your engines and upgrade them to a speed of Mach 7.5, if possible...

We will be willing to part this technology for a fair price once it is completed and tested thoroughly. About the upgrade, Dr. Illyanich said that theoretically it would be capable of mach 7.5 however after mach 6, acceleration decreases dramatically.

We would also like contract rights to this new engine in order to create a fighter around it that would meet the expectations of the ARSB's 'New' Air Force. We would pay a hefty sum for the contract rights.

It is nice to see enthusiasts in our research however we must take into account that these are proposals for projects that are accepted by the nation's research ministry and will processed and a project will be chosen to be started after the completition of the AZ-MD Point Defense Laser project. Please, limit yourselves to voting for whatever project you would like us to start or comments about the projects.

We have several "issues" with these so called up inovations.

The 1st from what I understand is a lower bypass ratio engine and nothing more, while it does provide increased thurst from the same size of engine is drynatically increase TSFC requiring planes to carry much more fuel for a relativly small performance increase.

With the 2nd design comes the draw back of any rocket(It is a rokcet becuase it carries it's own oxidizer), an increased weight and becuase you are using a turbojet the fuel consumption is very high.

And the 3rd i just don't understand.

I would elaborate, but as far as I know, well, I don't know the first thing about these! That's why they're proposals! Seriously though, I was hoping no one would actually bother. However, for the sake of the application of physics, I'm trying to gleam as much information from these concepts.

About the SteamJet concept, I know as much as anyone but the developers would, I just tried searching in multiple search engines, nothing specific turned out.
