From the Financial Times:

The Non-Human Union has officially announced that the voting for the compulsory IFTA membership to ALL NHU members has been completed with a 25% turn out and a 3:4 approval for the measure.

The vote issue has caused resentment amongst some member nations; in particular Slagkattunger has spearheaded a coalition of citizen and national lobby groups opposing the move toward full coverage of all NHU members under the terms of the IFTA. Although an expected grace period is to be formally announced this looks unlikely to stop Slagkattunger from leaving the Union and other nations may follow.

However the Central market is confident of the long-term viability of the more streamlined approach towards international trade this will produce and the untapped export potential for the poorest within the Union, via accessing the foreign markets of other IFTA nations – while still protecting and supporting worker rights.

If Slagkattunger does leave the Regional Delegacy is expected to go to Biotopia – who has previously the position and was a key member of the pro-IFTA group, not to mention a member of the CACE organization and holding a senior position within the NHU. However Hell Bovines could displace Biotopia if it moves quickly and wins the elusive Kingdom of Zarlo vote. Hell Bovines holds the position of Internal Ministry within the NHU and was already a member of the IFTA and supporter of the pro-IFTA movement.

The tick for tack rivalry however is seen as no more then ‘strictly politics’ and relations and cosy between the two main candidates, with no doubt the internal power structures are holding their breath as to Slagkattunger’s decision. Slgkattunger has often held more conservative views on issues, which conflicted with the more left-wing slant of the NHU bureaucracy and administration. One issue that has not been commented on is the issue of the slgakattunger currency – whether it shall remain the Union Paw, as used by all NHU nations or revert to the former currency.

Over all however the recent economic indicators have shown a general improvement with the domestic economies of the NHU member nations and the annual Central Market report is expected to show Union economic growth comfortably above the forecasted rate – owing partly to domestic economic growth and expanded export market with membership growth. The adoption of IFTA has resulted in all financial reviews being pushed up in line with the expected increase in productivity via international trade.

With news of the IFTA vote passing in the NHU forum Slgkattunger has officially announced that it plans to leave the NHU region and thus avoid being covered by the terms of the IFTA Treaty. An un-named spokesperson for Slgakttunger officially summarised the Slagkattuner government's reaction.

"Ah bugger"

The Slagkutter Government has announced that it will be departing the region [Greenfields] in 24 to 48 hours. The government has decided to keep the Union Paw and is expected to remain within the NHU sphere. All nations that are within the NHU region are ‘core members’ who are covered by the IFTA and can elect and nominate UN delegates.

Because Slagkattunger is a UN member they are expected to retain their right to access the NHU closed forums and participate within the ‘outer NHU’ which is free of the Central Market controls [Including the IFTA] however by retaining the Union Paw and perhaps forming a co-operative outer region they will retain their seat on the Central Market Board but will have appropriately reduced influence.

The Slagkuttnger government is currently seeking any other nations that wish to move into the outer NHU although each nation will be treated as a separate case in terms of the condition and position the hold within the NHU. A pro-IFTA lobby is rumoured to be developing to remain within the Core NHU comprised of Slagkuttnger officials and immigrants. The un-named spokesperson finished their twenty minute briefing with…

“What this will mean for us?”
